21 Women Who Changed the World - Kirk Fowler

    IT BEGAN WITH EVE

When God created Adam, I believe it went something like this. This poor sod is clearly not complete. On the belief that God loves us all, he did the kindest and most delightful thing he could think of. When Adam first saw Eve, he did not know what emotion overcame him. The only thing he knew was that he liked it. This emotion is called love. Love creates almost all the happiness in the world. What kind of world would it be without love?

From the moment of conception, we are surrounded by our mother’s love and protection. With her love and protection, we can accomplish anything. Without it, we are (with very few exceptions) doomed to a life of despair and self-pity. Almost none of these unfortunate individuals lead a life that has meaning in terms of kindness, hard work, success, concern for others, or somehow contributes to the betterment of the world. Almost every alcoholic, drug addict, or those classified as homeless are the way they are because of the lack (real or perceived) of their mother’s love. Children that are raised in an orphanage (for example) have great difficulty in adjusting to life.

The only rational explanation for this is not their IQ, race, what part of the world they are from or what language they speak. It is because they are denied the love of their mother. The sacrifices mothers make for their children are a never-ending source of amazement and admiration. One does not have to be an atomic scientist to observe and appreciate the love and patience mothers worldwide exhibit daily. This also includes the love and patience they give to those of us lucky enough to be called husbands or boyfriends.

Can anyone imagine a world without the love and beauty women and girls bring to the entire planet?

What happened to Adam changed our world for the better forever. I tried to think what it must have felt like to be a grown man, having never seen or even thought of a woman, then suddenly walking around the corner, only to lay eyes on Eve. It must have been similar to being run over by an invisible truck and then wondering what happened. Some might say, thank God for invisible trucks, even if they did not know what a truck was.

Think of the simple pleasure of holding hands in the moonlight while walking along an ocean beach. Or the sound of a woman’s voice or the touch of her fingertips when she is talking to you. When a woman (or a young girl) walks into a room, it is similar to someone turning on the light. This light brightens our life, improves our feelings of gratitude, brings a song to our heart and the desire to be someone she would look up; to. All of this began with Eve.

This blessing has been given to us for many thousands of years. It begins at the moment of conception. A mother’s love is quite evident when she denies herself earthly pleasures to protect her unborn child. This mother’s love never ends and is proven thousands of times no matter our age. When the child is sick or injured, he naturally turns to his mother for love and protection. This love and protection a mother gives without regard to her own health and well-being. A child knows this instinctively, and his instincts are proven correct over and over. The whole world operates in this fashion. So, the basis of civilization is a mother’s love for her child. Can anyone imagine what sort of world we would live in if mothers cared not for their children? Would any of us survive, and if it were possible, would we want to? A world without love, kindness, and beauty would fit the movie version of hell. Not to mention forgiveness that is part of the gift we receive daily.

Eve was a blessing given by God. Because of this blessing, she and her descendants deserve the love and protection by and from men in every nation in the world.

In this book, we will explore the lives of women throughout history that have changed the world for the better. I will also discuss the life of Lucrezia Borgia for those that wish to dwell on the dark side of life. Hers is an interesting study (who is the exception that proves the rule), but it brought no happiness or love to anyone except her children.

    LUCREZIA BORGIA

Lucrezia Borgia was born in Subiaco, Italy, near Rome on 18 April 1480, and she passed away at Ferrara, Italy, on 24 June 1519. During the Italian renaissance period (1320-1520), her family was in a strong position of power, and corruption was a way of life. She spoke and wrote five languages, including Italian, Valencian (a variety of the Catalan language), French, Latin, and Greek. She was betrothed four times and was married three times. All of these were arranged politically by her family. She also had many lovers during her lifetime. Rumor (never proven) states that she had a hollow ring that she filled with poison and used said poison in the soon-to-be deceased’s wine glass when they had served their political purpose.

Despite being one of history’s most famous villains, no one, not even her worst enemies, ever accused her of being anything but an outstanding mother. In spite of the family she grew up in, she loved and protected her children. In this aspect, she set an example for other ladies of her time and culture.

    Chapter Two

    ESTHER

Names in the Bible sometimes tell us about someone's character. Hadassah, Esther’s Jewish name, comes from the word for (Myrtle) a tree whose leaves only release their fragrance when they are crushed. Esther’s true heroism only appeared when she and her people were in terrible danger. The name Esther means hidden. Esther’s real identity as a Jewess was hidden for many years.

The book of Esther was written for Diaspora Jews (Jews who lived outside Israel) to show them how to live in exile. If they encountered bigotry and prejudice, they must act with courage and integrity. She is celebrated by the feast of Purim, a major Jewish feast day.

There are three major adventures in her life that demonstrated not only her bravery but also her beauty and grace.

It began when the Persian King Ashasuerus, in a fit of drunken anger, banished/divorced his wife (Queen Vashti). Thus, a new queen was chosen from the most beautiful women in the land. The fact that Esther was Jewish was not known to the King. Probably he would not have cared because her grace and beauty were such that his love for her was so strong that it never wavered during
