John Perry graduated cum laude from Vanderbilt University, with additional studies at University College, Oxford, England. Before beginning his career as an author in 1997, he was an award-winning advertising copywriter and radio producer. John has published 21 books as an author, collaborator, or ghostwriter. He is the biographer of Sgt. Alvin York, Mary Custis Lee (wife of Robert E. Lee and great granddaughter of Martha Washington), and George Washington Carver. Among other books, he has also written about the 1925 Scopes “monkey” trial (Monkey Business, with Marvin Olasky, B&H Publishing, 2005) and contemporary prison reform (God Behind Bars, Thomas Nelson, 2006). He is a two-time Gold Medallion finalist and Lincoln Prize nominee. He lives in Nashville.

BIRTH & EARLY YEARS
Where was she born ?
/Our star child was born and christened Angela Evelyn Bassett on August 16, 1958 in Harlem in New York City. Gifted to two hard working parents, Daniel Benjamin Bassett who was an electrician and Betty Jane (née Gilbert), a civil servant, Angela occupied the vantage first born position in the family, as her younger sister was born less than a year after her.
Angela Bassett zodiac sign is the Leo – the star reflected in her magnetic personality, generosity, loyalty, enthusiasm, optimism and her passion about her work, traits that would combine to produce a cocktail of regal personality loved by one and all.
What was growing up like?
/Angela Bassett grew up in a Christian home with high standards. Being the granddaughter of a preacher and having a mother raised on high virtues, Angela was to imbibe this culture of virtue, modesty and hard work – sterling qualities you’d find in African American families with ambition for the American Dream and eye on the future.
However, in 1962 at age 4, her parents got divorced which led Angela’s mother, forced by the circumstance, to send her young daughter to St. Petersburg, Florida to stay with her aunt and uncle, pending when she would find her foot and take up her motherly role for her girls. Not minding her economic restriction, Angela Bassett’s mother made it mandatory that her daughters do well in their
