    Introduction

I can live perfectly well without math, so why should I learn it?

Often, many children who dislike math ask this question. They are asked to learn how to solve equations using formulas and numbers without knowing their significance. Because math can be stressful, it becomes their least favorite topic, and they could shy away from it.

Even parents cannot give their children a clear answer on the importance of math as they themselves never learned ‘why’ either when young. They simply tell their children that studying hard and getting good scores in math is critical to get into a prestigious University and be successful. That is today’s reality in math education.

Math! Is it only a subject needed to pass an entrance exam? Are memorizing math formulas and practicing complex problems the only way to be good at math? How you perceive math can completely change your child’s life. In fact, through Math, humanity has been continuously reflecting and exploring the facts about the universal truth of Seob-Ri (섭리), including the workings of the universe, laws of nature, and how the world works. By recognizing repeating rules and patterns over the years, humanity has been trying its best to change and develop to understand the universal truth of Seob-Ri as they share consciousness using math as a universal language.

※ What are Seob-Ri and the true meaning of math?

Seob-Ri is Hananim (하나님)’s (The Creator and Almighty) will and words (See the second revised edition of Seokmunsasang, published by Seokmun Publishing Company, 2018). The reason and principle of the Whole Universe, referred to as providence, is originated from Seob-Ri, and it is all of us aiming toward the brightness that is the Seob-Ri of Haneul (하늘) (Hananim and Shin(신, 神)’s world). Math is a science that Haneul has given to humans so that we can understand, accept, and embrace the true world of Seob-Ri in a more systematic, logical, and rational way. Consequently, Seob-Ri Math brings us closer to Seob-Ri, therefore, makes us brighter, clearer, and brilliant.

Math is an excellent tool to let us organize, refine, define, and arrange the facts about the universal truth of Seob-Ri. Therefore, math is also a subject to help us understand, adopt, and embrace the universal truth of Seob-Ri through systematic, logical, and rational thinking. Moreover, through math, you better understand the universal truth of Seob-Ri, becoming a brighter, clearer, and brilliant person, living a wiser life! Then, how can we teach our children about this? ‘Playing Seob-Ri Math (also known as SR Math)’ refers to a collection of blog posts (NAVER) with easy reading contents about Seob-Ri math, inviting anyone from elementary kids to adults who are turning away from math.

    ※ What Is Seob-Ri Math?

    - Seob-Ri Math enables you to build your self-existence, boost your creativity, and learn how to work with others through discussion, collaboration, and cooperation.

    - Seob-Ri Math helps you experience and acquire the universal truth of Seob-Ri by learning how to think systematically, logically, and rationally becoming a bright, clear, and brilliant master of ‘math.’

    - Seob-Ri Math will help you understand the value and necessity of math is in your life and the world.

We should tell our children that it’s okay to make mistakes in playing Seob-Ri Math! The first step to enjoying Seob-Ri Math is to believe in yourself and restore your confidence by removing the pressure to be perfect. In playing Seob-Ri Math, the process of solving problems is more important than getting the correct answer. Especially, we combined math and cooking to practice, experience, and feel math with our own hands. We show that many mathematical concepts, definitions, meaning, reason, and principles are embedded in cooking. As children collaborate and get along with each other in cooking as part of their mission, they will develop their self-existence and creative problem-solving skills. They will learn how to connect the concepts and attributes of Seob-Ri math to challenges in their daily lives.

For example, by learning how to use measurement units, which are like promises to keep, you will understand the attribute of criteria and principles. They will learn about equality and fairness by practicing the four basic arithmetic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division). Divisors and multiples will naturally introduce them to the attribute of equality of opportunity and the attribute of balances and fairness. While solving inequalities, they will learn acknowledgement and consideration. While learning the reasons and principles of ratios and proportions in food recipes, they will develop systematic and logical thinking skills.

By participating in playing Seob-Ri Math, which involves developing systematic, logical, and rational thinking skills, our children will see the necessity of set criteria and principles in math. They will find ways, means, and methods of achieving the attribute of balances and fairness and the attribute of equality of opportunity. Also, they will naturally learn how to live their lives based on facts about Seob-Ri. As they learn the basis and mechanism of Seob-Ri, which is dimensional, and integrative, equivalent, and proportional, they will realize accepting, respecting, coexisting, and considerate of each other to make creation harmony for all, which serves best for themselves too.

    The Truth of Seob-Ri

※ The true world of Seob-Ri is structured by poles of intangibleness, tangibleness, and spatiality in a brief, concise and simple way connecting all in one line, one consistency, and one unification.

※ Three purposes of the Creation Seob-Ri

    1. Recognition of one’s existence and existence value

    2. Rebirth through rising of Bit (light)

    3. The beauty in creation harmony

    ※ Creation Seob-Ri’s twelve attributes

① The attribute of criteria and principles, the attribute of processes and procedures, the attribute of systems and logics

② The attribute of balances and fairness, the attribute of equality of opportunity, the attribute of equivalence, and proportions

③ The attribute of hope and positivity, the attribute of change and development, the attribute of acknowledgment and consideration

④ The attribute of sharing consciousness, the attribute of three-dimensionality and integration, the attribute of creation harmony and brightness

※ Universal attributes of the Creation Seob-Ri

    brightness, clearness, and brilliance

    - Hanjo, Seokmunsasang, 2nd revised edn., Seokmun Publishing Company, 2018

Hopefully, the contents in this book about Seob-Ri math will help you and your children to discover the universal truth of Seob-Ri in your daily lives and take a step closer to them. Throughout the process, math will be an excellent opportunity to develop good insight, judgment, and discernment that will help your kids build self-existence, creative thinking skills, and team ethic – ultimately improving the quality of life and expanding the scope of life.

    Prologue: Beginning Thoughts

    Hello, everyone! I’m often asked,

Why do I have to learn math? I can live perfectly fine without it.

Is it true that you can live perfectly well without math? What you learn in school is not everything about math that matters in the real world. We can find examples of math concepts in our daily lives. What time do you have to get up in the morning to have breakfast and not be late for class? How much money did you spend today? How much money are you planning to save this year? How much taller have you grown last year? What are your odds of scoring in a soccer game with your friends? What arm angles do you make, and in what order to make perfectly synchronized dance moves with your friends on your favorite K-pop song? What is the best way to create perfectly round Hotteoks (Syrup-filled Pancakes)? Even the most trivial things in our lives can be explained by math, as numbers can explain everything.

Do you think math is all about equations, formulas, and numbers? All the formulas we learn about are the result of long hours of research simplified and organized by mathematicians. Math is widely known for having a clear and correct answer as a solution; however, math is also a process. Math will be a difficult and boring subject if you try to memorize all the formulas without thinking about ‘why’ it works. You may end up wanting to give up because of the fear of getting the wrong answer. However, math is all about trying and attempting to find a solution and develop systematic, logical, and rational thinking skills by doing so.

In fact, through Math, humanity has been continuously reflecting and exploring the facts about the universal truth of Seob-Ri, including the workings of the universe, laws of nature, and how the world works. By recognizing repeating rules and patterns over the years, math has become a universal language. Because of that, humanity has been making an effort to change and develop by sharing consciousness through math in order to understand the universal truth of Seob-Ri.

Math is a subject that helps you understand, accept, and embrace the true world of Seob-Ri through systematic, logical, and rational thinking. It is also an excellent tool that enables us to organize, refine, define, and arrange the true world of Seob-Ri systematically, logically, and rationally. Furthermore, systematic, logical, and rational thinking, developed by solving math problems, can help you live more wisely. Nevertheless, learning math sounds difficult, doesn’t it? It’s okay. Let’s dive into the book step-by-step as we journey this road together and start by taking the first step. Soon, you will no longer think math is useless. Now, shall we start the first mission by playing Seob-Ri Math? We are all Shins! In this lesson, we will try to be Shins of math. How does it feel to be a Shin? Don’t you feel bigger and your mind expanding nothing to be impossible? Don’t you feel that you can do anything? Say I can do it, Just do it, and Try, try again until you succeed. Just by saying, I am a Shin! perhaps you can boost your self-confidence.

The first mission in Seob-Ri Math is to cook Gyeongdan (Sweet Rice Balls)!

Mission No. 1: Create your own planets.

Mission No. 2: Create the Sun (and other planets).

Imagine that we are big enough to be Shins. Then, miniaturize the whole universe and take a close look at it. Let’s say there is blueberry in your palm. Imagine the blueberry as Earth and swallow it. How does it taste?

Feel free to create your own planets using the materials before you. Divide a piece of dough into multiple parts, coat them with different powdered grains, and create your own planets. Then, think about the characteristics of your solar system and the planets in it. You might begin
