CHAPTER 1
Why turn back now
March 12th Year 2050 20:00 PM. An icy evening breezes through Knight city known as a bright neon lit city similar to Maimi. A magical city startles pedestrians with neon lights visualizing every thoroughfare; reflecting various shadows aligns with the surface, on a cold Saturday night evening. A preparation nightclub, due to the busy time of the week. Bass speakers sprint across to vibrate the radius of Knight city streets, like a festival that appears every weekend. Impossible to think among yourself, especially masses of vocal blending with variety music, as society communicates loudly. Multiple aluminum birds autopiloting across the rainbow streets, and apartments carrying a diversity of purchased items to its destination. Tropical trees hustled by the wind; rockabye side to side gently blending with the club’s instrumental beat. Ocean waves nudged by gravity excessively.
Distance from instrumental clubs. An abandoned reconstruction tower building, broken pieces of glass smeared next to shattered windows. Dusty sand settles on the ground, while rain from outside echoes inside the constructed room. An individual staring through a shattered window. Is a man in his early fifties. A gale gliding through his brown leather coat, like a curtain reacting to the gentle breeze. Glancing down at Knight city. The sight of pedestrians tends to look like gummy bears, strolling wherever they desire to be. Knight south beach, lights reflect the city like a child’s night light.
From glaring down. The man’s eyes bags focus directly down horizontally, right opposite a few miles from the reconstruction building. A similar aspire building. A beacon visible blinking behind cloudiness fog. A green illuminated sign on top of the aspire building right in the center states CELL Corp.
This individual colossal building is where the main core reactor is stored. It’s what maintains the entire knight city’s electrical efficiency, and the same corporation who’s responsible for everything in life as we know, has changed. Before the year 2040. The world we used to know was modern: socialization, freedom of speech, and people with a variety of jobs, but technology was evolving at a steady pace, ‘ahh, the good old times.’ The mysterious man thought himself, but there were also inadequate times: poverty, increase suicides and crimes. so there were advantages and disadvantages on both sides.
Early 2040 Connor Ericson established a space program known as CELL,
over the years his true nature of adroitness has improved. In late 2040 Connor proclaimed to the globe that he will sustain humankind by developing technology known as Project CELL.
A year later in 2041, CELL rebranded its name to CELL Corp, with the success and expeditious. The company became wealthiest in the market especially besieging its competitors, as they struggled to maintain. After acquiring its competitors. CELL commenced to promulgate Project Cell, ready for launch. A date was set for fall 2045, but still didn’t have an official name for Project CELL. Over months of deciding they’ve finally originated with an official name called ‘‘Cybers.’’
Blink of an eye CELL accomplished to change and conquer the diversity of the globe: hologram phones, hologram watches, androids, drone delivery service and efficient energy maintaining electricity to the worldwide districts. CELL is established to provide an easy living to maintain global warming, sustain fossil fuel crisis and descending poverty. If you sit at home all day streaming movies, playing video games, gardening or washing the dishes, matter of fact: income will still be poured into civilian bank accounts. Of course, not everything is changed, due to substantial life living. That’s not the real problem though.
Early 2048 Connor Ericson death proclaims to be the natural cause, but fragment of individuals to believe the truth lurks behind closed doors. A dark secret to expose CELL true nature. A year later 2049 the calamity changed, civilian disappearances occurred with no traces left behind, even though conspiracy theories spread like wildfire. The society believed that the government were to be blamed for the abduction, as perplexity provided more than answers. The brown leather coat man himself believes those rumors weren’t true, including Michael Morgan the President of the United state of America. He’d allegated those rumors were false, and proclaimed to seek to find the mastermind behind the abduction. But it seems like CELL Corp dominance and palm-greasing media, turning blind eye while people are disheartened that loved ones wipe off the face of the earth. That doesn’t stop the man’s ploy of his own.
August 15th 2049. His beloved daughter, Alice, also disappeared. It laid him into shattered pieces, like a candy taken away from a child. It still haunts him remembering that Sunday night. Specifically on his daughter’s 24th birthday. An emotional roller coaster diving through his mind, since the day she’d disappeared. He clenched, striking his fist through the dry-wet wall, exhaling heavily aggressively in frustration, everyday blaming himself not being able to protect her that night. His soul filled with anxiety, wondering if she is alive or dead.
Silent encircle, while the rain continues to echo from the distance. A grande valse ringtone interjects the man’s sorrow. He looks down at the coat pocket, slips his hand to reveal a burner phone. A bright backlight monochrome reflecting mature face, gray short boxed beard face with shaggy gray hair covering his ear drums. A name gave the old man a cheer of hope and a smirk, to see ‘Marco’ displayed on burner phone.
Immediately answer, ‘Hey Marco, please tell me any good news?’ asked the man with an aspirational tone for Alice’s existence.
‘Sorry Rick, it seems like Alice is not located here.’ Marco raspy as he tried to catch his breath, to assemble his thoughts. ‘I ain’t giving up yet though, so don’t lose hope. I’m gathering all the data from servers as we speak. I just hope we can locate Alice’s whereabouts.’ Marco added, which helped Rick to reassure his confidence there’s still a chance to find her.
‘Take it as no problem tiptoeing around to get in the facility. Seems the cloaking device came in handy afterall, right?’ asked Rick while he’d stroll to make his way toward the crooked elevator shaft. He equipped a grappling hook gun with the palm of his hands, triggering the mechanism as the hook attached drywall cement. He leapt gently rappelling at a steady pace.
Marco chuckled while typing away with a miniature size laptop to infiltrate the server, ‘no problem at all, just needed to find a quiet place before contacting you. The security system is like child play, though I found the asset. She is alive and well, but seems like she is suffering from amnesia. So she doesn’t remember who she is or what she was doing down here, matter of fact. She is capable and independent enough to travel by herself.’ stated Marco with a sarcastic smile.
‘Shit,’ Rick sighed in grief, knowing that his custodian was someone who’s liable, especially attempting a rescue assignment for the main purpose. Rick and Marco had to improvise, ‘at least something went according to plan. She escaped as we planned?’ Rick inquired.
‘Yup, I helped her to break-free, as well as supplied with a few gizmos to help get through any problem, she might encounter.’ said Marco, laying the holophone on the ground, green transparent hovering display like a miniature portable tv; only issue is no pop corn to fill the void of entertainment. ‘Okay, check your phone, you’ll be able to track her. It looks like the asset got in the taxi that I’ve left outside. She’s heading towards Videll cafe at south beach as we speak. I already informed her that you’ll meet her there. So you better get to her first before they do.’ advice Marco.
‘I guess for a worse-case scenario, we’ve always got plan B
up our sleeve.’ Rick interjected. ‘Yeah,’ replied Marco, sighing in grief, the tone of his voice tended to show the mistrust he’d obtained in the past, while struggling to connect one of the wires in the server port. Rick knew likewise what was really bothering him. ‘Don’t understand why we would need their help. I’m sure there is another way of securing her if she gets captured?’ asked Marco.
‘I’m all ears pal,’ Rick continued as he reached the bottom of an unlit abandoned hallway lobby. The hook detached, returning back to its original owner. Rick strolled toward decapitated exit doors, while continuing to say ‘there’s no other way, even if we did, nothing could top-off plan B, plus we’re gonna need all the firepower we could get. It’s all about desperate times.’ explained Rick even though Marco’s silence really showed aversion.
Rick carries on to avoid awkward silence, ‘Nevertheless. We gotta keep moving forward, no matter how bad the situation is, just remember ‘‘Unknown’’ wants her alive. It seems very special to him or her.’ insisted Rick.
‘Can we trust this Unknown person? My gut feeling tells me, we might get beaten to the punch. How do we know if this anonymous person will tell us about Alice’s location?’ A warily issue came to Marco senses, a past segment misled his trust.
‘Don’t have a choice, and we wouldn’t know where to start without any reliable source, provided by Unknown.’ Rick responded, peeking through a broken deformed window. ‘They did notify us about the Knight city location. There was a chance of finding her here, but that was a fifty-fifty case. We know how that just ended. So hopefully at this time of period, Unknown better do some homework and find a second location, or in most cases, any information we could gain from one of the servers. So at this point we just gotta go along with the flow.’ answered Rick to ease Marco’s mind.
Marco sighed ‘I guess you’re right, anyways how is the view up there? Take it as club music still pisses you off?’ Marco teasing his partner in crime. Rick’s not too keen about nightclubs, due to his personal invalidation of characteristic nature.
Rick chuckled, ‘You punk, yeah I can hear the dull music from here, but weather is certainly strange though.’
‘How so?’ Marco tapping the keyboard away like a rhythm beat.
‘You know how Knight city is one the hottest counties in the US?’ said Rick, as Marco acknowledged. ‘Oddly enough the atmosphere is opposite of what the city stands for. It’s actually raining in Knight city as we speak, clouds started riling up the entire city.’ said Rick.
‘That’s strange.’ Marco expressed, while staring at the percentage rising up at a slow pace. ‘Last time I remembered, it rained in Knight city over three years ago. The weather broadcast couldn’t stop bragging about it for weeks. Whatever it is, weather anchors better get their story straight before giving false allegations.’
‘Look at you with the big words,’ Rick chuckled, while standing next to the dismantled exit door.
‘Those books actually come in handy, it… oh freaking sake!’ Alarm triggers off interrupting casual conversation. The sound of a loud siren echoes through the concrete wall. ‘freak! I guess they know the asset escaped.’ startling Marco nerves.
Rick groans in frustration, ‘freaking! only twenty percent transferred.’ Marco nerves commence to adrenaline with fumed expression, ‘c’mon you stupid thing, can’t you go any faster!’
‘Marco! get out of there now!’ yelled Rick.
‘I still have time, it shouldn’t take too long.’ replied Marco
‘Don’t risk it! we gotta stick with the plan!’ shouted Rick. ‘Listen, don’t worry about Alice, I’m sure she’s fine. We’ll find her, just have faith, trust me.’ said Rick praying Marco would listen, and not be arrogant about it.
‘Okay, I’ll meet you at the safe-zone.’ hesitated voice, implemented Marco’s tone to improvise a way to storm out of the server room. To make getaway without being detected as the phone cuts off.
Marco would be able to handle it himself due to his capability. A thief who’s good on his feet: pickpocket essential when necessary, quick as a fox and improvises like a genius at times. Rick knew he’d nothing to worry about, while he stared at the CELL Corps green illuminated beacon building. ‘Look at them, they don’t even know what’s about to hit them. We made it this far, why turn back now.’
CHAPTER 2
Subject-45
Heavy rain poured down from the cloudy sky, as rainfall constantly overflowed the canopy, while drops of water consistently collided with the concrete floor. A local cafe shop, known as Videll Cafe. A woman standing outside all alone, confused, scared with amnesia playing up. Staring at her own reflection from the cafe window, along with the colossal digital clock, reflecting from her rear; stating 20:15 PM. A bubble wrap popper blends the sound of raindrops, as it collides upon with moss color hooded jackets. As well as her platinum blonde color, rainwater sliding across her bob cut side fringe.
Adversity ran through her mind about a preplex event that took place an hour ago. Where a mysterious man, who called himself Marco rescued, and helped her escape from a hidden facility, where she was kept for experiment. The situation leads to being unable to remember who she is, where she came from or what she did for a living, absolutely nothing.
Sighs in grief as she fathoms to herself, ‘what’s going on here? Who am I? Why don’t I remember any of this?’ draped her eyes, living the moment that happened over an hour ago.
At 19:00 PM. A blurred vision appeared in a bright light, resembling the ceiling in a cubicle sound-proof room. As confusion interjected her mind, while emotions accelerated with anxiety. An echo of voices and footsteps occurred near her numbed physical form, impossible to move, while trying to observe her surroundings. Its vain, able to turn her head laterally, eyesight regains back to reality. Her nerves fill with enmity, while
