Chapter 1: Recovering

This Saturday was the weirdest and craziest day we have ever known. Mom and Dad had finally gone back to sleep after the explosion fiasco. They allowed us to sleep in because of it.

They usually want us to be awake early on Saturday mornings to eat breakfast, read the Bible and other books, do chores, and whatever else the day brings. Our friends often sleep in until noon or wake up to watch cartoons. For us, it felt like such a strange Saturday morning. Not because of sleeping in, but what happened when Mom woke up.

Mom walked down the stairs. She placed her hand and weight on the banister, and it collapsed! She tumbled down the stairs and rolled into the dog’s water and
