They Said It Best - Serena Prince

    Introduction

Now he discovered that secret from which one never quite recovers, that even in the most perfect love, one person loves less profoundly than the other. There may be two equally good, equally gifted, equally beautiful, but there may never be two who love one another equally well. —Thornton Wilder

Ah, the words that began my love affair with quotes. I was a freshman in high school, reeling from a broken heart, after catching my boyfriend cheating with a girl I despised. I thought my life was over until Thornton Wilder’s statement changed my perspective.

The words stirred something inside me. They inspired an image of myself as a beautiful, confident woman, with my boyfriend at my feet. Devastated after realizing I loved him less profoundly, the poor thing was never going to recover.

It didn’t matter that it wasn’t true. In my mind, it was, and I felt empowered. For a teen-aged girl with precarious self-esteem, the words gave me the courage to end a relationship that was bad for me.

Good quotes are powerful. The right words, at the right time, have the ability to transform lives. They can help you reach goals, define your purpose, and train yourself to expect the best.

Have you ever needed advice, but didn’t feel comfortable asking anybody? I certainly have, which is why quotes are my go-to resource for guidance, inspiration, and motivation.

When I faced the long road to recovery from narcissistic abuse, quotes were a tool that helped rebuild my life. I felt broken, and my self-esteem was at an all-time low. My counselor suggested several inspirational quotes as daily affirmations to rebuild my confidence.

It was great advice, quickly becoming part of my morning routine. Today, I’m a life coach, specializing in healing from narcissistic abuse. I recommend affirmations to all my clients, not just the ones in recovery.

In this book, you’ll find over two thousand quotes from renowned authors, celebrities, philosophers, and great leaders. They all have a purpose.

Some will lift your spirits, jumpstart your brain, motivate, or inspire you to do great things. Others will offer clarity, a new perspective, or bring you comfort while you cry.

I hope you find the wisdom, enlightenment, and guidance as helpful as it’s been for me. May these powerful words encourage and energize you to achieve all your goals.

    Renew Your Energy

Motivation is the reason people act or behave a certain way to achieve a specific and immediate goal. It’s a force that compels us to act.

Since motivation is fleeting, we must continuously renew our energy. That’s why we have days when we don’t want to get out of bed, much less, go to work. We still want our paycheck, yet our enthusiasm for earning it has waned. Motivational quotes are a tool to get you going again.

Everybody needs a pep talk from time to time. As parents, we may need to motivate our kids to finish their homework. If you’re the boss at work, it’s up to you to encourage your employees.

In his book, Real Leaders Don’t Do PowerPoint, executive speech coach, Chris Witt, offers these four steps to motivate people.

Limit the amount of time or effort that you’re asking for. It’s easier to ask people to work late one night, or even every night for a week, than to expect them to work late indefinitely. Set an end date.

Share in the sacrifice. Leaders don’t ask people to do what they aren’t willing to do. Don’t tell your people to work over the weekend if you’ve got plans for a spa day. Roll up your sleeves and share the load.

Appeal to their emotions. Fear can be an effective motivator, but if overused, it’ll have the opposite effect. People prefer to be motivated by positive emotions like excitement, pride, a sense of belonging, and the thrill of achievement.

Give people multiple reasons for doing what you want them to do. You can give your own reason for requesting the action, but the best reason is always personal. You could give your people extra days off, a bonus, or talk about the camaraderie that comes from achieving something important together.
