The human brain is a priceless computer lying perfectly maintained but almost silent! None of us uses the full potential of this amazing instrument, yet we all possess a secret 'trigger' for activating its mechanism. Called 'the Third Eye' in occult language, this 'trigger' can release a vortex of psychic energy for the extension of awareness in new dimensions, for speeding up or slowing down time as experienced on our planet, and achieving one hundred per cent personality integration.

 

Dr. Baker reveals that the Third Eye derives its power from the pineal, pituitary and carotid glands, allied to 'whirlwinds' of energy known as 'chakras' or force centres. There are seven of these centres in the human body, their physical location being the base of the spine, the solar plexus, the spleen, the heart, the throat, the brow, and the top of the head.

 

Five safe techniques for arousing the Third Eye are provided. They have been practised by the author 'without hazard and with many rewards for over forty years.' In our present condition we can only observe the outer surface of the planet, manifesting in gaseous, liquid and solid form. We are completely unaware of the subtler states of matter beneath these outward appearances. But the Third Eye reveals all underlying structures. 'This means that one could observe the termites in apparently solid wooden paneling; or, more constructively, man's inner organs could be observed and all traces of disease in them immediately recognised, with consequent enormous benefits to medical progress.'

PART I - The True Nature of Matter

1. The Mystery of Man's Mind

The trials and struggles of man on the Path are immense. History and mythology are full of allusions to it. Jason and the Golden Fleece, the Knights of the Holy Grail, Hercules and his Twelve Labours, the separating of the Goats from the Sheep, are but a few that we have derived from the Western cultures. In the East, the best known allusion to the struggle for initiate knowledge is that of Arjuna on the Battlefield, as described in the ‘Song Celestial’, the Bhagavad Gita.

We no sooner begin to accept the basic propositions of Ancient Wisdom concerning the inner reality of man’s soul, when we are immediately confronted with immense new concepts, the en-compassing of which places heavier and heavier burdens on the mind, and calls for even greater occult disciplines.

Here are some of the prodigious concepts we must face:

That the material world is an ILLUSION.

That TIME can be manipulated, slowed down so that we live in the ETERNAL NOW.

That we have a divine SELF … a higher nature … the real inner entity or soul WHICH WE CANNOT EVEN REMEMBER …and Who ignores the petty problems of our personalities.

That we, our lower selves, are asleep or, at the best, only partly conscious.

That we have powers LATENT WITHIN us.

That the ultimate, for us, is immortality and eternity.

And there are many, many others, equally complex.

It is hard work reaching even a vague understanding of what these concepts imply, and that HARD WORK constitutes the struggles of THE PATH because we have to do that work and make those struggles whilst still living in the world of the personality. Few personalities can cope with the normal demands and stress of life let alone those of an INNER WORLD offering altered states of awareness.

Knowledge and understanding of the higher worlds are hard to come by. The three traditional paths to self-unfoldment are:

Service to Mankind.

Focus of the Mind in Study, and

Meditation.

There are other ways but they are not safe and their rewards are as illusory as matter itself … an illusion which the Hindu scriptures call Maya.

We do not easily comprehend the Inner Worlds or the life of those worlds because they exist, as it were, in different dimensions from those for which we possess cognitive faculties which we call the five senses.

Elsewhere in my writings I have dealt extensively with some of the powers latent in man. Here I am more concerned with the concepts of MAYA and NEW DIMENSIONS as keys to the mystery of man’s mind. If we study the Ancient Wisdom with care, we find references everywhere to the illusory nature of the material world and these cannot be sidetracked. We are told that our cities, our homes, our furniture and even our loved possessions like brothers and sisters, parents or children, are all forms of a deception we must at least recognise.

Fragments of Reality

Even our own physical bodies are mutable, ever-changing, impermanent shadows of the truth.

The esoteric proposition goes further. Even the astral body is a shell, an illusion that must fade, useful for experiencing the astral world and moving about in, but still an ILLUSION! The mental body is equally illusory. It interpenetrates and lives in the planes of mental substance. The worlds of the personality, the PHYSICAL, ASTRAL and MENTAL, are part of the illusion, of Maya.

Plato says it: Blavatsky says it; ancient Hindu and Chinese traditions teach it; Ouspensky, Gurdjieff, Besant, Leadbeater and Bailey. Even Einstein, in his way, says it.

And SCIENCE is of no help to us any more in denying it. For a long time it clung to the concept
