Chapter One
It was three months that I was a dental student in Istanbul; their doctor came to see them after three months. So excited they were for my arrival! I am talking about my parents. I found it in my father’s warm hug, and tears of excitement on my mother’s cheeks, and the preparation of their glorious party. Most of the guests were acquaintances. The tone of the acquaintances’ gaze seemed strange to me!
When the party finished, I went to my bedroom. How much I’d missed it. I had lived here with my loneliness for many years over the good and bad days of life. I remembered hours of sleeping in the soft bed, the gentle caress of the morning sun, the hot aroma of bread in the hands of my father and mother, who patiently prepared my breakfast…I even missed my small desk with its snowy logo, playing cards, laptop, and PlayStation, which I had left behind with all my excitements before travelling. How soon fate had separated my hands from my childhood; memories passing from the mind like a cool wind. Suddenly, a terrible sound brought me out of that past calmness… I ran all way from the bedroom to the living room. My heart was beating like a little sparrow’s; Mother had fallen to the ground. I was suspended between the earth and the sky and saw my soul disappear from my body. I had waited a long time to see her kind look again, and now my life moon was falling silent under a curtain of blood… I regained myself after several minutes, took out the blood clot from my mother’s mouth, and went to the hospital with my father…
Dad was driving fast, and all the way, I was lost in sad thoughts. What could I do for my mother after several months of studying? God forbid, was this a stroke?
We arrived at the nearest hospital. It was an old hospital, as though sadness was dropping from its broken tiles. The emergency room was crowded; the corridor beds were not sufficient for patients suffering pains.
A mother’s voice came from behind a half-closed curtain. A young person was holding closed the bloody wound of his friend on another bed. A little farther, an old woman seemed more aged than ever from her stomach ache…
I called the emergency doctor: "Doctor, my
