African cultural clichés including the Dan/Gio Liberian language proverbs and words are infused in a number of the poems bringing out the authentic African-ness of collection on one hand and in the main establishing it original identity. Like in the poem, the Song of Tomaa, the interpretation is sourced from the African identity to apply the uniqueness of the situation and it immense implication and ramification within the Liberian society as well as applicable to any society with human depravity everywhere.
Altogether the whirligig of the experience of the author, the poet, who is a true child of his environment and culture is everywhere palpable in the various pieces; individually, these pieces oozes their own messages and as a collection seeks to convey the thoughts, imagination, reflection and in some cases the historical experiences encountered by the poet. And in reading this work, we can say with certainty that, one will definitely find a refreshing vibe to appreciate that resonates with one’s soul.
