About this ebook

If you feel like starting a food truck business but don't know how to go about it, then read on.

Street food is increasingly in vogue, and the food market, especially niche food, is increasingly sought after and coveted by customers.
Thirty years ago, I had the same dreams as you. I was tired of my job as an employee. I was looking for something that would give me the freedom and entrepreneurship I had always dreamed of.
After several searches, recommendations from friends of friends, and attending many street food festivals across America, I started my own business, which has brought me tremendous personal and financial satisfaction.
At the end of 2020, I sold my business, crowning my well-deserved retirement.
In the first half of 2021, I dedicated myself to writing this book, creating the complete guide to the food truck business that I wish I had received when I left. I helped my son start his company a few months ago, so I have combined my experience with the current needs. After this period of isolation, people are even more eager to get out and eat outside. So I want to provide you with a step-by-step guide to meet their needs by creating a highly profitable and customer-recommended ecosystem.
You will learn all about my experience, from A to Z, both personal and gained from friends who now have some of the largest food truck empires in the world:

  • What certifications, licenses, necessary permits are required and how to obtain them,
  • Choice of menu and estimation of food stocks,
  • How to start the testing phase to understand the business better while limiting errors to a minimum,
  • How to perform Buyer Persona analysis simply and effectively,
  • How to build your brand to create authority and customer loyalty.

Learn from the experience and mistakes of those who have already traveled this road and become the next success story!

Setting Up Your Food Truck Business - Chuck Street

Introduction

Since the early days of humans, food has always been the major source of human energy; hence food can not be separated from human history. The early humans fought and struggled for food, which led to migration from one place to another, wars, and high survival instincts. As the centuries pass, humans started to cultivate the land for farming and rearing of animals to make life easier and don't have to travel distance for a single meal. Eventually, the business aspect came in, people started exchanging one food for another or other goods. Over time, humans have been devising and innovating sources of food, which has increased exponentially and continued to change over time. While early humans had to go far distance to find their daily meals, nowadays, we are surrounded by several promotions and advertisements for food products of different types, prices, and qualities. This led to the birth of the enormous food industry we have presently.

The food industry has always been a complex and global network that consists of diverse businesses. Most of the food consumed by humans has been supplied by the food industry, and this industry covers a series of production processes:

Preparation and Production,

Processing and Distribution,

Transport and Preservation,

Certification, Assembling, and Packaging of foodstuffs.

The industry has become wide and broad as the manufacturing ranges from a small business (usually family business) to a large business (usually capital-intensive and highly mechanized industrial processes).

The industry discussed in this book will be focused on the Food Truck Industry, which has proven to be the future of the food industry.

1  The Legalities of the Food Truck

As it has been discussed in book 1 of this series, the food truck industry is an industry that requires a lot of commitment and hardwork. Book 1 has introduced us to the business enviro and how to start the business from scratch from the business owner's perspective. Preparing for the legalities of owning a food truck is the next stage in the food truck business. In this chapter, you will be apprised of the licenses and permits that you will need before your food truck can operate. Depending on your location, regulations that concern the operation of the food truck may vary from state to state or country to country. It would be best to do some research on the specifics.  Properly prepared paperwork can ultimately save you on potential costs from fines and penalties that the relevant authorities can impose.

As a food truck owner, you have a lot to deal with, which is why there is the need for professionals to consult concerning taxes and the other legalities that can ensue once your business commences. There are three professionals whose help you will need before you move forward: an accountant, a lawyer, and an insurance provider, as most permits to operate concern these three professionals.

1.1  Untangle the Legalities Before Going on the Road

THE BEST WAY TO AVOID any legal troubles with the operation of your food truck is to prevent them. This requires the help of an attorney. If you happen to have one on call, that would be great. If you do not, there are several sites to help you find an attorney who can help you with the legalities that can arise from the food truck operation.  Why would you need an attorney in the first place?

Attorneys-at-Law can anticipate potential legal troubles as you operate your food truck and save you on costs from liabilities that may arise as your food truck operates.

Attorneys-at-Law can identify the regulations that you may have overlooked and help you rectify them, which saves you from the penalties that the relevant authorities can impose.

Employment records and applications are double-checked by your attorney to ensure that your questions are not discriminatory and can draft the agreements needed between you and your employees. Additionally, if you have imposed any rules and regulations, the attorney can ensure that these are in compliance with existent labor laws applicable to your state or country.

While it would be a great idea to just make an appointment with your nearest attorney, an ideal attorney would have to be familiar with the intricacies of the food truck industry. Therefore, it would be a good idea to consult with other food truck owners to see who they have on retainer, as this would save you time on an attorney who knows what
