Olivia yawned and felt the throbbing soreness in her wrists as she carried the two cups of earl grey tea to the kitchen table. She set them onto the wooden surface before turning back to return to the stove. The sizzling and smell of scrambled eggs filled the air while she scraped at the pan with a wooden spoon. With a free hand, she sprinkled some more salt and pepper into the pan.

Are you sure you don’t want to eat anything before you go? Olivia asked when she heard Vanessa taking her seat at the table. The older woman looked over her shoulder and watched her niece readjust her blue dress straps and silky blonde hair. She was in the bathroom for a long time, and the effort really showed. Wow, Vanessa, you look gorgeous!

Thanks, Vanessa said weakly. But it’s okay. I’m not that hungry. I honestly think it’s better if I do this on an empty stomach.

Feel too bad?

No, it’s not that. Magic just makes me queasy, remember?

I suppose you can’t help it. Olivia hummed to herself as she turned off the stove. She moved the pan to the side and dumped the eggs onto a plate with two slices of crispy toast. She took the plate and sat down across from her niece who seemed to be pouting. Everything okay, dear? You haven’t done any magic yet. You shouldn’t be feeling queasy right now.

Yeah, everything’s fine, Auntie Olivia, she answered. I just can’t believe this is about to happen. It’s what I want, but it feels kind of weird. I’ve always liked Evan, and the thought of actually being with him for good has me a little conflicted.

Evan was a rough looking man who lived a few doors down the hall from their apartment. He lived with his girlfriend, a beautiful brunette named Noelle, and they lived mostly private lives. Olivia saw them regularly attending mass at their local church. But they were far from the most conservative of people. They were an extremely sexual couple in an open relationship. They shared their love with Vanessa, but after doing this for several months now, the transgender woman didn’t want to share him anymore.

That resulted in an opportunity that Olivia couldn’t turn away. You aren’t feeling bad about Noelle, are you? She asked nervously. For a moment, she was afraid that Vanessa was going to change her mind. I need you. Don’t back out on me now.

After a few seconds, Vanessa shook her head with an unsure look, and that made the older woman smile. She’s conflicted, but I can tell when she really wants something. That boy’s really influenced her. But as Vanessa fidgeted in her seat across from her, Olivia knew that things were about to go her way.

Her young niece was such a wonderful and loyal student. Vanessa learned magic quickly throughout her final years of high school, and now that she was done college and working in finance, the young witch had become quite skillful and powerful. The years of constant learning developed a level of devotion that not even her own mother had when she was alive, and that always made Olivia feel so good. She trusts me. She always has.

But Auntie Olivia, I’ve been thinking. This level of magic seems really advanced. Obviously, you’re doing a lot of the harder stuff. Is getting her to complete the ritual with the ruby all I have to do? Complete the temporary body swap, and the rest of the pieces fall into place? Or is there more?
