One common social media habit made Vanessa Morrison rich, famous and terrified
Stanley Singleton
Why I choose writing? Writing choose me and the person directly responsible for this is my Grandma. She was a housekeeper and every evening she would bring home the previous day's newspaper for me. The people she worked for would read it and save it for her to bring home to me. It didn't matter that I was always reading a day old paper. I read every word on every single page. A few years later after I had graduated from college, my goal was to write for that newspaper. She was so proud when I got an interview for a reporter's job. Back then there were not any black reporters at that paper. This is one of those it was just like yesterday moments. I can easily remember sitting in an office writing an article as part of the interview process. A group of young white reporters came to the door smiling and one of them said "look at that reporter writing a story." I was so jacked up to hear that and looking forward to working with them. When they were walking away that same person said loud enough for me to hear "look at that reporter never getting a story published." All of the group burst out laughing. That punch in the gut made me want to run out of there and go back home. I finished writing the article, not really paying attention to what I was writing because at that point all I could think about was how they had laughed at me for trying to do what they did without even knowing if I had the talent. I lied to my grandma and told her that everything went well. But I was hurting and didn't want her to hurt with me, but a determination was being born I didn't fully grasp it at the time, but everytime I read their newspaper or drove by that building it grew and now here we are.

LOL A Horror Story - Stanley Singleton
LOL A Horror Story
As she has done hundreds of times before going out into public,
Vanessa Morrison, whispers the same prayer Please God don’t let him be out there.
A year ago Vanessa could easily count the people who knew who she was, now in addition to her prayer of protection, it would probably be impossible to find anyone whose safety is more protected than Vanessa Morrison’s. Everything is triple checked before she makes a public appearance. Her private life is rare and cherished with a well-connected inner circle surrounded by a fan base that grows by the thousands weekly.
Because of a past tragedy, a habit that Vanessa has developed for when in public is that for good luck, confidence and because of a constant and sometimes overwhelming fear, she gently pats the 38 always hidden in her clothes, a gift from her father the day after the tragic event, not only for her protection but just as important it was a father’s way of expressing his feelings of helplessness and rage for not being there to protect his baby girl.
Even though she is always surrounded by an elite security detail, driven by a feeling of necessity and fear Vanessa has become an excellent shot with one target in mind, and for extra motivation has
the target’s name engraved on each bullet. In over a year she has had zero opportunities to fire a shot. There was an incident two months ago in Virginia Beach when at a book signing, she went into a restroom and had to use her 38 to hold a man hostage who insisted that he was the one who is tormenting her. She knew that he wasn’t but was praying that he had information that she and her team could build on.
Tonight at another sold out event where thousands are excitedly waiting for her, Vanessa waits as the person at the microphone eagerly tells the over flowing audience about their featured speaker, celebrity author Vanessa Morrison whose book has sold millions of copies, been made into an Oscar winning movie and a hit Broadway play.
Hearing about her successes does bring a bit of satisfaction for Vanessa because she works extremely hard at what she does, but the accolades, achievements and financial stability aren’t what she
desires more than anything in the world. The one and only thing that would allow Vanessa to be truly at peace continues to allude this ultra-successful woman, and every day and night it painfully torments her. Sleep has become a luxury that is rarely achieved.
Even with the standard security protocol, two guards outside the door, two in the lobby and two in front of any hotel, Vanessa is still on edge away from home.
Most authors would die to have the kind of success in their entire lifetime that Vanessa Morrison has achieved so rapidly. Ironically almost tragically dying is what has placed Vanessa at the top of the literary world and because of this, the majority of Vanessa’s free time is spent relentlessly searching: online, off line, big cities, small towns, remote villages or any place for that one piece of news that could bring peace of mind or drive her deeper into agony. The not
knowing is a constant source of agony. Behind the beautiful world of Vanessa Morrison is a woman whose life became a living nightmare in one day and continues to be one filled with shadows that have to be investigated, noises that rattles nerves and people who have to be watched and feared.
Tonight she’s in Beijing, last night Shanghai, in the morning it’s off to Tokyo for a week in Japan before taking a few days off in South Korea to follow up on a rumor about her secret and relentless quest, then jetting away to Paris to begin a European tour, all part of a whirlwind promotion for her new book, at least it’s what her millions of fans think, but these tours and their locations have been carefully plotted based on even the tiniest information about what Vanessa is seeking. So far none of the leads have brought her any closer to finding and ending the source of her torment.
Everywhere Vanessa Morrison, the hottest author in the world, has gone on her tour, has been sold out weeks in advance. She has become a literary mega-star. At the same time the source of her fame and the reason why so many flock to these appearances continue to haunt Vanessa making events such as these painfully difficult for her, but absolutely necessary, not as promotional tours, but a well calculated secret plan by Vanessa and her small inner circle to draw the danger out of the shadows and put an end to the nightmare.
Tonight despite the fact that thousands of fans have her new book in hand and eagerly beg for the author’s signature, most of the
crowds are not there for that reason. The majority of the people, especially women, who show up at Vanessa’s events, domestically and internationally are there to hear about the experience that led to all of this and most importantly does she or anyone have any clue about where Roger is.
Forcing herself to smile confidently to avoid showing the reality of being Vanessa Morrison, she comes on stage to a standing ovation. However, a constant reminder of the day her entire world changed are the crutches that have been a part of Vanessa’s life for over a year now. While they are really not needed anymore, she uses the crutches to hide a very noticeable limp, something that Vanessa is very subconscious of in public because she believes that like her everyone is thinking about how her ankle was mangled.
A doctor in Germany has been making progress with a radical new treatment for people with her condition, and Vanessa is optimistic and desperate, so has scheduled an evaluation and possibly another surgery on her ankle, which along with the mental scars is a constant reminder of that tragic day.
On stage receiving another thunderous applause, at the same time Vanessa is very carefully looking at the huge audience, especially
the front rows to make sure that there isn’t a reason for panic. Finally, after making the usual last minute eye contact with her husband and getting the thumbs up, Vanessa Morrison appears ready to begin talking about her new bestseller.
"It’s such a blessing to be standing here tonight in
