A warm spring morning in the middle of April, Danielle was sitting on an aqua blue chair on the balcony of her Greek villa. She watched the world go by for a while, admiring the tranquil ocean and the holidaymakers who line the beach. She got sad for a moment seeing the families splashing about laughing and smiling. She got a sudden bout of loneliness but only for a moment. She cast her mind back five years ago and remembers when she last saw her family. She recalls the shouting and screaming, Her younger sister Jade shoving a table over, smashing glasses and causing havoc. Jade had always been a problem but that night was the worst. It was Christmas and Jade had ruined it by throwing things at people and starting fights. Danielle just couldn’t take it so she fought back, neither had spoken since. That was 2005. A lot should have changed. Jade was now 23, Stephanie had just turned 26. Danielle was certain they should have matured by now. Since then Danielle had fled to Greece leaving all her problems behind. She just left everything behind, everyone she ever loved behind. She had been in Greece for almost a year now and the only human contact she had was when she went to the supermarket in the town. She didn’t miss her siblings one bit but wondered what they were like at this point in time. Danielle was a huge singer back in the UK but had fled after a series of unfortunate events that led to her career stalling. She hadn’t even thought about her life until she got a call from her manager, Kate in London.

Hi, Danielle, how are you doing?

I’m doing alright, I just don’t want to return to London.

Danielle, you have got to come back. It’s been almost a year. The label has said they will drop you if you do not come back to promote your album.

Danielle paused for a moment and remembered the last time she had been in London. The label was pushing her to go on tour with her latest album but she just couldn’t. She hadn’t even wanted to release the album because it was full of songs she didn’t believe in. The album was her worst performance yet, and she felt like it was the end of the road for her career. Danielle was only 27 but had been in the industry for what felt like a lifetime. A child star turned into a pop star as an adult. She had struggled with fame once hitting her mid 20s and when she became a mother she found it even harder to cope with dealing with her career. She knew what was right.

Tell them to shove it up their ass, I’m out! Danielle shouted and hung up the phone.

She didn’t talk to anyone for the rest of the day and just lay on her bed in tears. She thought she had lost her career, that she had worked so hard for and she wondered whether she would ever be able to go back. But she reminded herself that fame was just too much for her at that point, She had received so much negative press and most of it was false. She felt like her life had been invaded and a lot of the articles written were either untrue or unnecessary. The drunken binge that was reported was all false but the media had a field day when they found out she was drinking vodka on set.

The headlines raced around her head, and all her negative emotions came back, she wept a little. In some ways she did miss home and she missed her family especially her 4 year old son, she felt a lot of guilt at leaving him but was reminded that she had little choice and that she was at breaking point. She had to take herself out of the situation. It was an awful time in her life. She hated being reminded of it. She just wanted to forget about it.

Later that Afternoon, Danielle is taking a stroll down the beach, admiring the pristine beauty of the island of Mykonos and the perfect symmetry of the glistening ocean. She sits on the golden yellow sand and just watches the world go by for a bit, she watches a family laughing and eating in one of the restaurants looking over the sea. She watched on as a man proposed to his girlfriend, and the sheer happiness they had. She saw how excited the woman looked as she was going to get married. Two years prior, Danielle had gotten engaged and even planned to get married in the Spring of 2011 but it wasn’t meant to be as he would regularly go see other people and it just got too much so Danielle walked out never to return. She felt so much guilt at leaving her family and leaving everyone but she just overflowed. Her career had gone, her boyfriend, her son, her family. She had even lost her house in London. She just kept putting on a brave face because she knew if the press found out she was crumbling on the inside, they would plaster it over the front pages. She knew she wouldn’t be able to hide it so she took herself out of the country. Though it had been nearly a year, Danielle still felt like she wasn’t ready to return, but at some point she had too.

Danielle returned to her villa to be greeted with a shock visitor. Her brother, Brooklyn. Brooklyn was quite tall, thin and had bright blue eyes that could be seen from a mile off, Brooklyn was only 22 but you could have thought he was in his thirties as he had quite a fake face and bits of filler here and there. Brooklyn was also a singer but he was also an actor who starred in tv dramas. Danielle hadn’t seen him for almost three years because of family feuds and how he had taken Jade’s side in an argument between Danielle and her younger sister Jade. Danielle and Brooklyn had also fallen out when Brooklyn was on the reality show "The Sing-Off '' which he had won and Danielle had supported other contestants, so they had fallen out again. The feuds had become a very public affair leading to rumours that Danielle had sold stories about Jade. Danielle knew this was untrue, but knew who really sold the stories…

I just came to check if you were ok, you haven’t spoken to any of us in a year, not even to Mum. Brooklyn replied.

I needed to go, you all iced me out, I lost my family, my fiancée, my son, my friends, my house and my career. Everyone just turned against me after what happened with Jade. Jade was the new thing, I was just old news. I’m not even 30, how can I be washed up already?

Ok, sorry Dani. It’s just you need to patch up your differences. We are all spending Christmas together and we want you to be there, please come. Maybe you and Jade can patch up your differences. Maybe we can all be a family again, it’s been five years since we were all together. Things have changed, people have grown. We’re all parents now.

I’ll think about it, I just know as soon as I arrive home the media will be on me, they won't give me a break. This is what I needed, just a break, just some time to relax, a time to chill. Danielle sighs.

You’ve got to come back one day, you haven’t seen your son in a year. He exclaimed.

Danielle invited Brooklyn in to stay the night, apparently he was flying to Rome the next morning for a TV series. Hearing about him filming a new show made Danielle feel a sense of jealousy because at the end of the day she really did miss her career as a singer. It was also the underlying fact that she didn’t want him to be successful nor did she want Jade to have success after what they had both done to her. She missed writing new songs, she missed meeting fans, she missed walking down a red carpet, going to award shows and just all of it. She just didn’t miss seeing the press or being slated every day on twitter just for walking out of her house. It felt like she just had no one by the end and she felt just nothing. Everything felt bleak, boring and sad. She was conflicted, like there was a war going on in her brain. It was between her head and her heart but she didn’t quite know what her head wanted and what her heart wanted.

Brooklyn came and went quite quickly, and Danielle remained in Mykonos for the time being. She was torn. Later that Afternoon, she received another call from her manager in London. This time, Kate was informing her of some groundbreaking news.

Danielle, the label wants to give you a second chance! And not only that, they want you to release an album of songs you wanted to make and not run off the mill pop songs. Kate said excitedly.
