To Christina, who is music to the lines of my life
"Thou, who hast given me eyes to see
and love this sight so fair,
give me a heart to find out thee,
and read thee everywhere."
— John Keeble
Chapter 1
A love that’s poetry turned into song
I
I want a world where I can hold your hand
without letting it go when prying eyes
observe us, free to live a love unplanned
away from all the cold society’s spies.
I want a world arrested when our lips
are locked, a heartbeat’s sweet surrender to
that moment when my fingers touch your hips
and silence whispers how I long for you.
II
What is that word, always? What does it mean?
is it a slice of time that will elude
us when we reach for it, a place we’ve been
but never knew, the smile that we once viewed?
That word, always— so many meanings, yet
just one is ours. So press your chest to mine
and listen to our whispering hearts that met
to race together; that one beat, that line
that sings between our sighs with a bass voice
is always
; it is our love, it is our choice.
III
Anywhere we go
our love is the luggage
we take with us
It is a large suitcase
with the contents of a
treasure box
and the depth of
a magical chest
And on our back
a backpack of our most
beautiful memories
and empty bags
for all
