Lorna Wells
Lorna studied Singing and Performance at Access to Music, in Bristol. Although training as a nurse, Lorna also had a lifelong desire to become a singer- songwriter. Lorna gained an advanced Diploma in Popular Music practice, after three years at the college. This was the culmination of a number of years singing, performing and song-writing. Lorna then went on to create a business partnership with one of the students she met on the course. The business was called, DanceSing Workshops
and involved devising and creating mini-musicals for children to perform in, within various settings. At the same time Lorna was also a singer-songwriter in various bands and Jazz ensembles. Lorna first developed a passion for story telling as a child, when she would create stories to entertain her younger brothers, a tradition she carried on with her own children. It was a light-bulb moment combined with a chance find, which led her to a Goldsmiths MA in Musical Theatre. She was excited to realise there was an MA which combined her zeal for both music and writing. Despite having to withdraw from the course due to continuing ill health, Lorna has managed to complete the piece ‘It Tastes Like Home’.
Thank You
This piece was born of an MA Musical Theatre course at Goldsmiths University, which I didn't get to finish, due to my illnesses but my composer Eudora Yutong Qiao did. Thank you to her for her unending support, and beautiful music. Thank you to Roman Berry for his support, friendship, advice and guidance, as well as being the director. Thank you to my long- suffering family who have listened to me, supported and encouraged me. Thank you to all my friends who have championed me, encouraged and supported me. Also thanks to all friends and family when my illnesses have created barriers to my creativity, and you've have provided support and encouragement for me to continue. A special mention for my daughter Corinne Walker, who not only took on the role of Rosina Thomas in the 2017 version of the musical, but was also the producer, and a great supporter. Also to my brother Michael Wells who played Desmond Morgan in the two previous versions. Thank you to the Bread and Roses Theatre for championing women writers. And a big thank you to Elaine and Alex Moss for being our wonderful patrons for the 2017 production at The Bread and Roses Theatre, without them this current production would not be happening.
