About this ebook

One stormy night brought us together.

I woke up in a stranger's bed, somewhere in a secluded cabin in the dark.

I thought I was alone...until he spoke.

He saved me, but I want more.

I want him to be my first.

The deal...

No names. One night together, and I am never to return.

    Tangled - Gina A. Jones

    Chapter One

I couldn’t squeeze the steering wheel any tighter, as the rain came down in sheets, hindering my view out the front windshield. Like that would help me to see better.

I tried to relax. But it wasn’t going to happen. I had never seen rain like this before. It was as if I were driving through one of those high-powered car washes. My only hope was no cars were coming from the other direction. Because literally, I couldn’t see two feet in front of me. And what made it worse, I was driving in uncharted territory—for me.

I couldn’t even pay attention to my Google maps. And when she spoke, I couldn’t hear the direction from the loud sheets of rain slapping against the car.

But at least someone knew where I was, and she wasn’t even human. A few times I asked her to repeat. Nothing. This should be an option when using Google maps. But according to the GPS route, I guess I was still on a road. She did inform me that my estimate time of arrival was now an hour behind, and I was still on the fastest route.

When I’d left Indianapolis, the sun was shining bright in the morning sky. However, that was six hours ago. Stupid me, didn’t think to check the weather for Kansas.

I had planned out the seven-hour and twenty-two-minute drive, with enough time to check into the hotel, relax, and spend a day checking out the city.

It was at this moment I questioned my crazy plan of taking a job which I knew nothing about—managing some ranch just outside of Kansas City, Kansas. Well, managing I did know something about. Business management was my major, but I only graduated from IUPUI with no real-life experience. What would I be managing? That part wasn’t clear. I wasn’t in my right mind when a notification from my LinkedIn for a company looking for a management position came across my phone. I think it was called…something about horses? I can’t remember, but I sent my resume, and within minutes had a response from a Mr. Creighbum, asking if I would come for an interview.

So, there was a chance I wouldn’t get the job. And this could be a problem. Because said crazy day, I also broke my lease of my apartment, and turned down the job that Daddy was holding for me once I graduated.

The rain was pouring harder, now. My visibility went from zero to negative zero. And to make matters worse, the windshield was now fogging up. I was breathing so hard; my nerves were more than shot. I was a freaking mess. What was I doing? Did I really think this through? The answer was no. But like I said, I wasn’t in my right mind a few days ago.

I couldn’t believe with all this commotion—pouring rain, no visibility, no home, and no job, I actually felt myself becoming hungry. I hadn’t had an appetite for two days. Not since catching my fiancé with my supposedly BFF, Veronica, who was now my WFF—worst fucking friend. Maybe I should have paid more attention when neither one of them refused to answer my text or calls—at the same time. Now I know, they were too busy bumping uglies. I should have seen something, right?

Oh, shit, I said, when the car suddenly went off the road and bounced roughly on the brim. Without thinking, I over corrected, and went off on the other side of the road, repeating the same thing.

Where the hell was I? The city had to be close. What were you thinking, Evie? I questioned myself.

Google maps was interrupted when my mother began calling my phone. She had left several voicemails from her previous calls. I planned to cue her in once I was settled into my hotel room.
