    1 Introduction

    The ruins The city of Nineveh is located in Mosul, in present-day Iraq, at the confluence of the rivers Tigris and Khosr. Located on an important strategic site in ancient times through which several routes passed, it has two important mounds: Kuyunjik and Nebi Yunus or the Prophet Jonah.

    Nineveh is an ancient Assyrian city of immense extension, to the point that it was one of the largest cities of antiquity. In the first millennium B.C., when the Assyrian royalty ceased to be associated with the city of Assyria, it was named capital of the Assyrian Empire by Sennacherib.

    The city is named by ancient authors and in the Bible, where a very negative view of the city is offered. But what is the meaning of Nineveh in the Bible? In the Holy Scriptures we are told that it was founded by an ancestor of Noah, named Nimrod, and furthermore, all kinds of prophecies are thrown against it. In the book of Jonah, Nineveh is presented to us as an evil city related to sin and vice. Even the prophet was sent by God to it to preach its destruction, although the repentance of the inhabitants saved them from the tragic end and God forgives Nineveh.

    Although the area occupied was much larger, the excavations focused on the two main tells: Kujunjik and Nebi Yunus, as this was where the palaces and temples were located. The southern part of the site would also have been occupied, but today it is
