    This entirely fictional novel about an imaginary war was published just before the start of the real 1939 war and in this sense is very prophetic because it describes the experiences of a Southamton family, the Corbetts, who have 3 young children, as they endure heavy bombing raids. Near the end of the book there is a scare about widespread disease born by water which is very reminiscent of the recent pandemic. It was made unavailable for two years immediately after publication in 1939. As a result many believed that it was not fictional but historical.
