Chapter 1 - New Beginning
Daisy! Hurry up. You don’t want to be late on your very first day.
Daisy’s mom yelled.
Yes mom. I’m nearly done. Just a second.
Said Daisy as she stepped out of the shower.
She was getting ready for her first day of college. It was exciting as well as nerve wracking for her. Daisy wasn’t much of a scholar but she managed to get admission to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology at one of the best colleges nearby.
Daisy got dressed and went to the breakfast table. Her parents and elder brother, George, were already sitting there having their breakfast when she arrived.
Have you taken all your documents and your college ID? Check once again before you go.
Advised Daisy’s mom.
Yeah Mother, I’ve taken everything!
Daisy answered.
Everyone in her family knew how careless and even forgetful she could be at times. Her elder brother George always teased her about when she was in ninth grade and couldn’t find her report card. After looking all over the house for two hours, he found it lying under Daisy’s bed.
Daisy started stuffing her face with the cereal, in order to finish it quickly.
Slow down honey. You got time.
advised Daisy’s dad.
Daisy looked at her dad and said, I’m nervous.
I understand. Everybody feels like that. Look at me for instance. I am as excited and nervous as you are.
He said and she couldn’t stop smiling.
Her dad always made her feel good about anything she was doing or thought of doing. He gave her the best advice. He was, in fact, one of her best friends. And a doting parent.
Daisy had seen him work really hard for what he was now, a successful businessman.
As for her education, her parents were more thrilled about her degree than she was.
Here darling, I have packed your lunch.
Said Daisy’s mom giving her the tiffin.
Come on mom, I’m not in high school anymore. I could just eat in the college canteen. Stop giving me lunches, please.
Daisy cried
Daisy gazed at her watch and realized she had to leave. She took her purse and rushed downstairs from her building. She went to the parking area, took her red scooter and left for the railway station. It took merely five minutes to reach the railway station from her building.
Daisy heard the announcement of her train.
The train leaving for Victoria is going to arrive on platform number 5 instead of platform number 2!
What the hell!
Daisy yearned and rushed to cross the over bridge to get to platform number 5. Daisy was in such a hurry that she completely ignored looking at the stairs and nearly slipped. A guy grabbed her arm.
Careful.
He said.
She turned around to discover it was Andrew, her senior from high school.
Thanks Andrew. I was scared of missing the train. It’s my first day at this new college.
She said
Great. Which college?
he asked
M.E.T College.
What? That happens to be my college as well.
Andrew said
Great! And what do you study?
she asked
I study Law. It’s my final year.
He said with pride.
Where the hell is this train?
Daisy was frustrated.
It’s the usual delay. This - seven forty train doesn’t arrive before eight and that’s why I always miss the first fifteen minutes of my lecture.
Andrew was a bit irritated. And he went on with his rant about the hardships he faced as a daily train commuter. But he didn’t stop at that. He schooled Daisy in what a daily local train commuter means. Daisy wasn’t much amused but she pretended to listen. Their train arrived at eight.
Bye Andrew. See you later.
Said Daisy as she boarded the ladies’
