About this ebook

"Lights Out at the Brass Hotel" is a compelling novel about love – experiencing it, rekindling it, and losing it. Lance and Katrina marry at the young age of twenty. Despite the glow of early romance and the enchanting promise of forever, it just isn't working out. To fix their marriage, they decide to take a trip to Aruba to rediscover their passion and love for each other. However, Lance soon finds out that their problems go far deeper than he ever imagined. It might be too far gone, and the wounds might be too deep to heal.

How can a young couple's fate take such a vile turn for the worst? How can love that seemed so permanent become so fleeting and so toxic? Through this ambitious and unique suspenseful romance, we see the full scope of triumph and tragedy in a modern-day marriage. Lance, desperate for answers, must face the truth regardless of the pain that comes with it.

ON A SATURDAY NIGHT IN THE FALL OF 1982, Lance Matthews, a twenty-four-year-old, chocolate-covered piece of eye candy, is slender built, six feet four inches tall, distinguished diamond-shaped face, with sandy brown hair, is rocking a Mohawk haircut. At the Brass Chalice Restaurant in Cleveland, Ohio, Lance is in the far corner circular booth. It is September eighteenth. Lance is eating a Caesar Salad and drinking a glass of Cabernet, waiting for the perfect moment to hide in the bathroom stalls. Lance has come up with the perfect plan. When Jack, the restaurant owner, locks the door and sets the alarm before leaving for the night at 12 midnight Lance will come out of the bathroom stall without setting off the alarm, so that the police will not enter the restaurant.

Outside, the water droplets grow larger and fall more frequently, as the wind growled at sixty miles per hour, causing many trees to fall. Earlier, Lance had seen a waiter sending food to the fourteenth-floor penthouse via the dumbwaiter. That is where Lance plans to pay his best friend from childhood, Kevin Lang, a visit. There is a score to settle from an incident that happened earlier between his wife, Katrina, and Kevin at the birthday party for Alicia and Isaiah, Lance and Katrina’s one-year-old twins. Lance wants to settle with Esmar, too, but has no way of finding him. When the restaurant doors finally close behind Jack, Lance walks toward the dumbwaiter and squeezes into the thirty-nine-inch by thirty-nine-inch dumbwaiter. Lance had worried that his six-foot-four-inch frame was too tall, and
