Set in the Kanon-verse with the Kanon characters. This is a Halcyon Hero meets Darkstar for the first time story. It marks the biggest change in Michael Hasting's life that will give the Kanon Halcyon Hero the happy ending he deserves.

He'd never wanted to become the Best. As a member of the legendary Hastings family, Michael had been pressured to become better and better until it was inevitable that he receive the title.

There were no foes that could match him. He'd surpassed anything he perceived as normal.

Life itself became a boring drudgery of patrolling and fighting Alpha-level threats with noticeably overblown ratings.

Unless he'd reached a point where threat ratings no longer applied.

It was while he contemplated a lifetime alone at the top that his reign was toppled.

Darkstar. More a force of nature than a man.

Michael had heard the scuttlebutt, but people mostly focused on his amazing beauty. Even when every image recording showed him as in-focus clothes wrapped around a smudge, the so-called gaussian blur he was known for projecting.

His skin could not be recorded by modern means. Whole new branches of image capture technology had been developed in the hopes of catching a look at Darkstar. Because the tales of every person that came into direct contact with him agreed that he was beautiful. Near other-worldy. That a glimpse of him was a first taste of hope. He made the world better by being in it.

All the tales were true. At least to Michael.

Because in the moment he met Darkstar, the course of his life changed. He could feel it happening. He wanted it to happen.

Spectators to the fight of the century would say that it was a brutal knockdown fight. The Halcyon Hero gave it his all. Darkstar was too much for him. It was a glorious battle, even if a supervillain did win at the end. At least Darkstar was honorable.
