Badfreaky the cherry snake and the indecisive dragon - Konstantinos V.E. Adamopoulos
Author’s Note
I am a teacher at a Primary School in Athens, Greece. I live here with my wife and my daughter Marily. I like sports, traveling and fairy tales. This book is the second of a series of books. Why do I write these books?
"I remember it was Christmas when something most unexpected happened in my dream. You will of course say that this happens often in dreams, but my dream exceeded all imagination. So, in my world of dreams, an uninvited witch visited me. Yes, you have correctly guessed. It was Badfreaky!
She said in a strict tone:
Constantine, as from today even, you are going to start writing my story. It is very important to me that you write about it exactly the way I tell it to you, so children can find out what trials I have lived through. My life was an endless adventure and I think that people have a lot to learn from it. Listen carefully to what I have to say and hold on to it. If you don’t write my story, or don’t write it exactly the way I tell it to you, then beware; you poor thing! I will turn you into a blind, deaf and cripple centipede! Just so that you suffer all of your life!
Naturally, I got very scared and I began writing her story. Up to this moment, I must have done something right, because I am still human. If however, on your way, you meet a centipede walking crookedly, not knowing which way it’s going, I beg you; please don’t hurt her because it might be me, transformed!"
The
Bright forest
Once, a long time ago in a far, far away land, which nobody knows or has set foot on, lived the world’s meanest witch of all time. Badfreaky was her name and a pitch-black magpie would always be sitting on her shoulder. From being very mean, she became very good, living through many adventures until she achieved what she wanted most in the world and all the stars.
This is the continuation
of her story:
CHAPTER 1
Badkrixy , the spy, left Bright Forest immediately with her speedcloud. Badblackfate had to be told the bad news the soonest possible. Flying at top speed, she arrived at the Dark Forest in ten minutes. But something unexpected happened. It took over another hour before she met Badblackfate at the Big Pine Tree. On arriving, still out of breath, she started telling the story in a feeble voice:
"Ooooh dear! Oooh my goodness! You have no idea what’s happened to me! Badblackfate, my great and respected teacher. I am most sorry for being so late. I know well that you’ve been waiting anxiously to find out what happened. The breaks on the speedcloud failed. I almost got killed. I landed very badly and very far from here. It took me a long while to recover from the sudden and dangerous landing and to fly back. All this took it out of me and now my strength has totally abandoned me. Just as well Badmagicinventormaker installed a twelve-point safety belt in the speedcloud and gave me something like a hat to wear on my head. He called this a helmet. He pointed out that I should wear these whenever I ride a speedcloud. They saved my life. Whew!!!!! Thank goodness!"
Very irritated by her delay and idle chatter, Badblackfate said bluntly:
Stop! Enough with this nonsense silly bird and tell me quickly. What happened?
You could see his furious orange teeth from his half opened black lips. His teeth changed color according to his mood! The breathless, exhausted wild magpie continued her story. She told him everything from a to z.
When the ghastly wizard heard that Badfreaky was coming to the Dark Forest to make him disappear, he panicked! His instinct told him that he would have no chance in a magic duel with her. He had to leave there, as quickly as possible. He ordered his students to prepare immediately for departure. They obeyed without second thought. Disobedience was not an option.
He did something else, as well. Something very bad! The grey-black cloud under his feet, deviously wrapped around Badkrixy. A sign he wouldn’t let her go unpunished. He had to release his rage somehow. The unfortunate wild magpie vanished in the menacing cloud. When the cloud disappeared, Badkrixy existed no more!
In her place now stood a defenseless, repulsive worm, desperately wiggling around on the Dark Forest’s dry ground. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, the spineless creature would not suffer for long. Two other wild magpies, Badpixy and Badtixy, arrived in seconds, broke the poor creature into four and devoured her with great pleasure! They weren’t going to miss this opportunity under any circumstances. Badkrixy, only just managed to ponder the great injustice done to her. She, who so faithfully served Badblackfate, she who was his right hand, now loses her life at no fault of her own. Instead of rewarding her, the ungrateful wizard inflicted upon her, the worst punishment ever. The only thing she managed to mutter was a curse:
May you too disappear, the same way you are making me disappear now
, and with great bitterness in her beak, she took her last breath.
The dreadful wizard never managed anything with Badmagicinventormaker. He knew that inventions have to be tried many times, before they can function properly. He also knew that this wizard was still to invent many new things in the future. And he was not wrong. He would invent the crystal ball which sees everything, the cloak which makes you
