The cry echoed as laughter bubbled up through the trees. The thudding of hooves on leaves could be heard distinctly as the three teenagers galloped through the forest. ‘Tania leaned closer to her horse Skye’s neck and whispered in her ear to go faster. The horse responded by leaping forward and running at a breakneck pace, weaving expertly through the trees. ‘Tania cleared the tree line and expertly guided Skye up into the air, her holographic wings flapping on either side of ‘Tania.
No fair!
Callix shouted from the ground. His horse Colpo pawed in agreement.
Come down ‘Tania!
Zaria shouted laughingly. ‘Tania laughed too and she and Skye landed lightly next to Zaria’s horse, Amethyst.
I win!
‘Tania said, grinning.
Callix smirked and ‘Tania stuck her tongue out at him. The three of them began walking back towards the castle. ‘Tania breathed in the fresh air, reveling in the beauty of her world. She couldn’t believe that it had been more than a year since she battled her uncle Titus, the dictator, in this very meadow. So much had happened since then. A marble fountain, made in honor of ‘Tania’s fallen uncle, now stood proudly in the middle of Dynasty Meadows where ‘Tania and her friends now rode.
‘Tania stopped Skye as they passed it and gazed at the water, lost in thought as she remembered the details of that night. It was the same day the marriage rule had ended. ‘Tania was glad it had too, otherwise she and her sisters would be facing marriage in just three short months. ‘Tania still couldn’t believe she was going to be eighteen soon.
Whoa! Colpo, calm down!
Callix shout broke ‘Tania’s trance and she looked around to see a little bundle of fur and legs leaping around Colpo’s feet.
‘Tania laughed. Come here, Dysis!
she called. Dysis was the puppy Callix had gotten her for her seventeenth birthday. Dysis meant sunset, which matched the puppy’s reddish orange markings.
You know I’m beginning to regret getting you that menace,
Callix complained as Colpo settled down.
‘Tania just smiled. Dysis had come with a note attached to her collar reading How can I watch your dog if you don’t have one? ☺ Love, Callix.
Though Dysis was almost a year old, she still hadn’t reached full growth and looked exactly the same as when ‘Tania had gotten her.
‘Tania, Callix, and Zaria continued walking their horses back to the castle. They were inseparable friends. They did something together at least once a day, normally more, and
