Warrior in the Mud: Childhood Trauma, Adult Drama, and Reclaiming My Toxic Life
()
About this ebook
What if you had heard a single message all your life: that you shouldn't even be here? Would you fight to prove yourself worthy of love or turn to more hateful things?
The victim of "unusual abuse" that went unrecognized by the authorities, Nicole Salter grew up in the, 80s and, 90s in New York and Toronto, a mixed-race child of rageful parents who passed on generations of pain and dysfunction to their daughter. Her sense of identity smashed, she proceeded to make a series of seemingly logical decisions that would risk her life and bring her to the edge of sanity. Then she finally found safety and stability in a man who gave her the perfect life . . . until he abruptly destroyed it.
Warrior in the Mud takes readers on a gripping, brutally honest journey from soul-crushing childhood trauma to its effects on the adult woman who, in desperate pursuit of belonging, fell prey to addiction, prostitution and predatory personalities until it all came crashing down. Her introspective search to find out what had gone wrong and how to heal from it is a must-read for anyone recovering from narcissistic abuse.
Nicole Martin Salter
Born in Brooklyn, New York, to an African-American father and an Italian-Canadian mother, Nicole Salter became interested in literature as a form of escape at a very early age. Warrior in the Mud is her first book an autobiography about recognizing childhood abuse and breaking the self-destructive patterns that resulted from it. Two more books are as yet unpublished. The first, A Narcissist Walks Into a Bar, provides a rare glimpse into the inner workings, flaws and transcendent successes of a twelve-step recovery fellowship, while the second, Don't Fry the Children, delves into the emotional challenges of parenting well-adjusted children without the benefit of healthy role models. While she works towards becoming a famous lit star, Nicole's artisan micro-business pays the bills. A proud Torontonian, she lives in a fragile ecosystem consisting of one blind feline, two overweight rabbits and two incredibly wonderful children.
