Bonita Bandaries

Bonita Bandaries resides in Shreveport, Louisiana where she was an educator for many years. When confronted with the role of caregiver for her elderly parent, she found no manual to adequately guide her through the emotional turmoil for herself and her mother. A Promise Kept was inspired by these experiences. Often taunted by her mother's "You're just a teacher," the former counselor sought counseling from the Master Counselor, Jesus, described in Isaiah 9:6 as "Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God."

    Acknowledgments

Caregiving experiences impact you deeply and will likely stay with you for life. Once the season of caregiving is over, caregivers face the challenge of life after caregiving. I gratefully acknowledge family, friends, church, and medical staff who made a difference in caring for my mother during the last decade of her life.

Caregivers have big hearts and recognize the need to make life better for others. Many former caregivers transfer their commitment of care and compassion to the community. They dedicate time, talents, or money through involvement with local issues and organizations. For me, this phase of life opened doors to new friends, challenges, and opportunities to share caregiving spiritual insights and inspiration.

    I am grateful:

for local publishers who printed my thoughts about honoring parents and caring for them.

for invitations to speak to support groups.

for opportunities to share information at senior
