- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Sarah Schuette's Adoptive Families provides very basic information on the meaning of adoption and the relationships within adoptive families. This book stresses that adopted children are full members of their adoptive families legally as well as emotionally and in the way in which they interact with their adoptive parents and siblings. Illustrative photos show adoptive children and their families in a variety of situations in which more traditional families are also involved. They also show a variety of racial adoptive combinations. The book includes a glossary, index, and list of helpful books and websites. This book would provide a good resource for children in families involved in adoption as well as a resource for lessons on family. It is a safe choice for public and school media libraries needing first grade reading level resources on this topic.
