FAST FACT:
FROM 2012 TO 2016, MIKE TROUT FINISHED EITHER FIRST OR SECOND IN AMERICAN LEAGUE MVP VOTING EACH YEAR, WINNING IN 2014 AND 2016.
Who was the youngest 30/30 player?
Just 41 players in history have hit 30 home runs and stolen 30 bases in a single season, making baseball’s 30/30 club one of the most exclusive in the sport. Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels hit 30 homers and stole 49 bases as a rookie in 2012. Because he didn’t turn 21 until August of that season, he became the youngest 30/30 player in major league history.
Trout was considered one of the game’s top prospects and a future star, but nobody imagined he would become a superstar as quickly as he did. Trout ended up leading the majors in both runs scored (129) and stolen bases as a rookie. He was a unanimous selection as the 2012 American League Rookie of the Year.
Since his breakout rookie season, Trout has emerged as baseball’s best player. He is an eight-time All-Star and won the AL MVP in 2014, 2016, and 2019. Only 29 years at the start of the 2021 season, Trout has already slugged more than 300 career home runs.

Who was the youngest player to appear on the cover of Sony’s MLB The Show?
The first edition of Sony’s MLB The Show video game came out in 2006, and since it has become the best-selling baseball video game ever in the United States. Each year, a different star appears on the game’s cover. San Diego Padres star Fernando Tatis, Jr. made history in 2021 when at 22 years old he became the youngest player chosen for The Show’s cover. Tatis — whose father Fernando Tatis Sr. once hit two grand slams in one inning — dominated in his first two major league seasons in 2019 and 2020, slugging 39 home runs in just 143 games.
Who was the Hall of Fame slugger that once led his league in ERA?
Most fans know Babe Ruth was one of the greatest hitters in baseball history — he’s one of only three players to hit more than 700 career home runs. But not everyone realizes what a great pitcher Ruth was in his six seasons with the Boston Red Sox.
The Red Sox valued Ruth’s pitching more than his hitting when he reached the majors. His best season on the mound came when he led the American League with a 1.75 ERA and nine shutouts in 1916. He hit three home runs in limited at bats and didn’t give up any homers as a pitcher. In 1918 and ’19, Boston started playing Ruth in the field when he wasn’t pitching — he led the league in homers both seasons. Before the 1920 season, Boston owner Harry Frazee sold Ruth to the New York Yankees, who wanted him as an outfielder. Frazee’s sale remains one of the worst decisions in sports history.
Who was the only player to appear in both a World Series and a Super Bowl?
Deion Sanders was one of the flashiest and most electrifying athletes of the 1990s. He was a football superstar, an excellent baseball player, and a colorful character on and off the field.
Sanders began his baseball career in 1989 with the New York Yankees. His best season was 1992, when he batted .304 and led the National League with 14 triples as an outfielder for the Atlanta Braves. He was a big reason why Atlanta reached the World Series that season.
Meanwhile, Sanders was enjoying even greater success as an NFL cornerback. After five seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, he signed a one-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers in 1994. He was the 1994 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, and he intercepted a pass in the 49ers’ Super Bowl XXIX victory.

FAST FACT:
JOE MAUER IS THE ONLY CATCHER EVER TO WIN AN AMERICAN LEAGUE BATTING TITLE.
Who was the catcher with the most batting titles?
Before he moved to first base prior to the start of the 2014 season, Joe Mauer of the Minnesota Twins became the only catcher to win three batting titles. The first time he did it, he became the first catcher ever to lead the major leagues in batting average — Mauer’s .347 average in 2006 was higher than anyone else in the American League or National League. He then won back-to-back American League batting titles in 2008 and ‘09. He was named 2009 AL MVP.
It’s not often that a player becomes a superstar in his hometown, but that’s what Mauer has done. As a high schooler in St. Paul, Minnesota, Mauer struck out only once in four years while hitting higher than .500 every season. He did it while attending school only seven miles from the Twins’ home park, and he was a huge Minnesota fan growing up. The Twins had the first pick in the 2001 draft and they selected their hometown prospect. Three batting titles later, the team’s fans are certainly glad they did.
Who was the first rookie to hit 50 home runs?
Three years after the Yankees drafted Aaron Judge in the first round of the MLB draft, Judge made his big-league debut in right field on August 13, 2016. He made history, hitting a home run in his first major league at-bat. But after his exciting start, Judge struggled, hitting just .179 and striking out 42 times in 95 plate appearances for the season.
The next spring, Judge earned the Yankees right field job in spring training and he was hot from the start. Judge batted .303 with 10 home runs in April and was named the American League’s Rookie of the
