The Ultimate Scare - Barbara Joan Russell
Five teenagers sat in a living room watching a scary movie on TV.
Did you hear that?
a woman in the movie asked, tightening her grip on the man’s jacket sleeve. It came from the closet.
They inched toward the closed closet door in the house. The floorboards creaked in protest to their weight. Everything around them was silent. Deadly silent. Except for the slight scratching sound coming from behind the door.
No! Don’t open it. I changed my mind.
The woman tried to pull him away from the door, but he held up his hand in protest. She stepped back and wrung her hands together.
He reached out and touched the doorknob. He took a deep breath and turned it. Slowly, ever so slowly, he opened the door.
A monster screamed and lunged at him.
Four of the five friends watching the movie screamed.
Seventeen-year-old Bill McCoy, on the other hand, rolled his eyes.
