The Magnificent Journey of Roopert the Scribe and the Great Princess Paasha - Beatriz M Robinson
Roopert and Paasha
Oh! Oh! But he’s going to look for a new king—a promised baby who will be the savior of all mankind. And I am going with him!
How could a baby possibly be a king?
I asked. And what do you mean ‘save all mankind’?
Paasha wiggled her back end even more furiously and said, I don’t know! I don’t know! But I do know I am going with King Melchior to find this king! And I hope he will save all animal kind too! Isn’t it exciting?
Stroking my long silky mouse whiskers, I asked, How will they know how to find this baby king?
They will follow the bright new star in the heavens, of course.
Star? What new star?
Right then, we heard the deep rumbling voice of King Melchior calling out for Paasha.
Paasha, Princess Paasha, where are you? I need to speak to you right now.
Turning to me with an excited grin, she said, Hop on, Roopert! Let’s go see King Melchior.
Curious to hear more about this journey, this star, and the baby who was a king, I quickly grabbed my notebook and quill so I could write down what I heard. Then I jumped up behind Princess Paasha’s collar.
Who Will Go on the Journey?
When Paasha and I trotted into the main hall of King Melchior’s spacious palace, the king was speaking to his officials in his thunderous voice. But when he saw Princess Paasha coming, the volume dropped and his tone changed completely. In a warm voice, he said, Well, there you are. I have been looking everywhere for you. We need to talk about the journey and who we will take with us.
King Melchior was very wise and loved his little dog, Princess Paasha, very much. Because of his enormous wisdom and generosity, God granted him the ability to understand all animals.
Paasha wiggled her silky little white, gray, and black body and danced about. Let’s ask the other animals and see who wants to join us.
Great idea, my Princess Paasha.
King Melchior reached into the bag he always carried in his pocket and handed Paasha a yummy treat. Then off we all went to the king’s stables, where the king’s champion black stallion, Thunder, lived.
I was still hiding in the fur behind Princess Paasha’s neck, hoping nobody would see me. Mice are not always welcome among people, you know.
Hello, great Thunder,
said Princess Paasha, who had to look way up to see the magnificent horse. Would you like to go on a journey with us to find a new baby king?
Great Thunder snorted and tossed his shiny black mane. How dare you speak to me, you canine. I would go with King Melchior, but not with you. You give me orders and expect me to answer to you. I refuse to carry you. If I go, you will have to walk.
No matter how much Paasha tried, Thunder did not seem to want to be friends.
King Melchior calmly looked down at little Princess Paasha and said, I’ve heard enough. He’s not coming. Let’s go speak to the camels.
Out in the grassy
