About the Author
Author%20PIC.jpgEdward West was born in 1942 on a river’s edge in central Iowa on the Des Moines River. Here he spent his childhood and teenage years playing and just being in and on the river. He got his first fishing boat at about 10 years old by him and his father digging it out of the mud after a river flood. He spent his growing up years with this boat. This started his life’s long love for the water and boating. It has only grown with each passing year.
Most of his professional life he was employed by a Large Pharmaceutical Company. He started as a maintenance worker but quickly started receiving promotions until he retired from them as a Director of Engineering. He retired from them early in life and formed West Engineering, Corp.
He employed 2 Engineers and a Secretary and continued working for the same Pharmaceutical Company for many more years until he retired completely.
Because of his professional life that revolved around Engineering, set the stage for going overboard in knowing and understand the Engineering side of every aspect of boats and motors. He has always been avid about learning (reading as well as hands on experimenting) and recording every little thing and would review it over and over through the years. Once he learnt something, he keeps it so he could use it always.
He has owned and operated many boats. This includes his first fishing boat, mentioned above, to a house boat that he, his wife Julie
and their family enjoyed for over 20 years. He and his wife have owned to many boats to list here but by far the boat dearest to his heart was the 17 -foot all welded aluminum boat with a 115/80 outboard jet motor in which he and his wife used and enjoyed extensively for 18 years. He could not have boated as he and his wife have except, she is just as much of an avid boater as he is.
He got overwhelming interested in outboard jets some 35 years ago. His first experience was buying an outboard jet pump unit and putting it on an prop motor. Ever since then he has been researching and hands on experimenting to learn and understand the ultimate Installation and operation of outboard jets. It has taken him many, many years to learn and record all the information that is in this one single Guide Book.
After putting this book together, at 78 years of age, he decided to rebuild and remodel a boat per the engineering details in this book. He did just that. This was a 2-year project but, since it operates most satisfactory is proof of the validity of this Guide Book
. Now we can say he not only talks the talk but walks the walk. See a few pictures and a short remodeling summery of this boat is in the back of this guide.
Dedication
To every person that is now or that ever will operate an outboard jet boat in shallow water and has a smile on their face and a warm feeling in their heart because it is operating and performing just the way they want it to. Also, to my wife, Julie, who has stood by me with unbelievable patients and understanding thought out the years while I was spending countless hours with boats, working on them, reading manuals and engineering books about them, experimenting with them and then sitting with me listening to me telling her of the great things I just learnt and accomplished. And recently waiting through the countless hours I have spent putting this book together, and performing a major remolding of a boat in using the designs and information from this book (a 2 year project). I say this most sincerely: "Without Her Understanding, Support and Above All -Patients," this could never have happened.
Happy Outboard Jet Boating Everyone

2. New jet boat owners—
a. Will provide proper operation information so they will get the best from their jet boat set up.
3. Long time owners/ operators of outboard jet boat set ups. —
a. When issues appear, what might be causing the issue and a possible solution.
4. Outboard jet motor installers—
a. Whether they are installing their own motor or employed as a service Technician.
b. This would include boat builders who install jet motors on their boats to sell as a package. This would include upgrading a jet motor for a customer for many reasons as upgrading to a newer motor, as replacing with a higher HP motor and more.
c. This would (for sure) include anyone replacing a propeller motor with a jet motor on any boat. This will then aid all
