The Dimensional Breach Series - Kevin Moore

    Chapter 1

It has only been six weeks since the banishment of the evil Queen Darlaya and the restoration of Sharshane’s dimension. With the Golack council reinstated, the government would soon vote to elect a new head of state to lead the Golack people. Sharshane was nominated along with Oggy Seashadow, a warrior that was elected to general status for the restoration of the once-defeated Golack Army.

Although rumors of the king’s return unnerved every soul that remembered his tyranny, the Golack people made every effort to ensure their newfound freedom, would not vanish. But still, the people feared what the king would do when word fi nally reached his ears of his queen’s defeat and the loss of his kingdom, for he was only on a distant crusade to expand his kingdom.

Thap was now a known celebrity, and he was no longer forced to live like an animal in the woods. He led everyone to believe he was the conquering hero that freed Jeff and John from their captivity in Darlaya’s dungeon. The once-despised creature named Thap was now someone everyone looked up to. Well, sort of! Jeff and John had no problems with Thap’s exaggeration of the events that occurred except the story just seemed to grow taller every time he told it. Thap was off visiting Ryan and Bark and they all were about to make their way to the celebration.

Ryan and his parents, Mike and Paula, now live in Sharshane’s dimension. How could they ever explain the return of their son after fi fty years, let alone the fi fty years of age that fell off the two of them? They knew there would be questions about their disappearance on earth, but this way was better for all. They built a small cabin just on the other side of Shanks Forest and had a second chance at life with their newfound son. The Reynolds, along with all the others, were given welcome to reside in the red dimension. For all who were involved with the defeat of the evil queen were recognized as heroes to the Golack people.

Jeff, on the other hand, was dealing with a full investigation of his disappearance and the professor’s. The security tape showed two unidentifi ed men leaving the prison hospital using Jeff’s and John’s identifi cation just before the disappearance of the old professor. So at least once a week, some detective or offi cer of the law would come by the old place just to make sure Professor David Inghigh did not make his way back home. Perceived as no threat, the old professor was not the main push of the investigation. It was the fact that everyone over the years who touched this case vanished. Jeff’s disappearance was the last straw.

Jeff, John, and the professor lived in the house, sharing the secret of the dimensional doorway. They would rotate the night shifts to keep a watchful eye out for unwelcome guests. That is when they were actually there. Most of their time was spent in other dimensions.

It was the day of the six-week reunion in the red dimension. A huge blowout and feast was set up for that evening to honor their heroes. The professor was already there in the red dimension with Sharshane and had just left the Valley of the Clouds, hitching a ride to the big tree in the Golack Valley. Fascinated with a being made of clouds, the professor spent most of his time in this new dimension, learning all he could of the Golack people and the strange beings he encountered. When he was not in the red dimension, he spent most of his time updating the dimensional unit to the twenty-fi rst century. They would soon reach the big tree and the dimensional doorway to wait for Jeff and John to arrive for the celebration.

Although it felt good to be home on earth after thirty-plus years of captivity under Darlaya, John had to stay low as well with the onetime-issued missing-person report on him. But still, he seemed to be the one that was elected to do the running because David’s and Jeff’s missing person reports were more recent.

Finally, Jeff was using this time to explore some new worlds while waiting for John to return from picking up supplies for the home. Then the two would make their way through the vault way with only one ring. This was their protocol in keeping the last three known rings from falling into the wrong hands.

Jeff moved down the vault way, the corridors of mirrors, mapping out all the new worlds that he and his team would visit one day. During this time, he thought to see just how far he could go down the corridors of mirrors. Maybe he could reach the end—if there was one—thinking it was like the universe, endless. Jeff’s goal was to go at least thirty minutes down and thirty minutes back before the unit shut down. Moving at a normal speed, Jeff thought he could always run back to make up for lost time, if he were to get into trouble.

Walking with his ring hand extended out, Jeff pushed through each mirror to the next dimension, counting each one as he went. He closed in on the three hundredth dimension from his own. There he would rest before going on. His arm had all it could take from holding it straight out, but he forced himself to press on to reach the three hundredth dimensional door mark. He counted down the last few doors, focusing on his ring and watching the different colors change with each new world. Holding his weak arm out with the stronger one, Jeff pushed through mirror 299. He walked through the vault room to mirror 300. He rolled his watch over to see the time; it was at about a twenty-minute walk. Knowing the exact time, Jeff walked into the three hundredth vault to that dimension.

With a feeling of resistance, Jeff felt like a part of him had to be dragged through the mirror, as if the plane of existence was changed somehow. With a look down at his ring, Jeff stood mesmerized by the color of this dimension, with a drop of his arm to rest it and free it from the pain from holding it out for so long. Jeff could not help himself but just to look at the strange new color again.

Raising his sore arm, Jeff realized why he was even fi ghting the pain, saying, Come on, dummy, and put the ring on your other hand.

Jeff switched the ring to his right hand and raised it up to study the unusual color some more. Never in his wildest dreams had he seen a color like this before. No words could describe the beauty and radiance of its tone. How could he ever explain what it looked like to anyone if he were out of the box, with no point of reference to guide him in the telling?

Losing all track of time, Jeff was brought back to reality as he watched himself walk through the mirror as his second self entered the vault. Jeff rolled his watch over to see the time. It was exactly fi ve minutes from the time when his fi rst self entered the mirror and into this dimensional vault way.

This truly was a new plane of existence, a different way from their normal time and space. Jeff now knew that was what he felt when he fi rst passed through the mirror with some resistance. The second Jeff knew what the fi rst Jeff was thinking as well as the other way around, as if the two bodies were one person.

Jeff walked up to himself to see if he was real or just a refl ection, like a mirror, as he put his hand out to touch himself to make sure. The other Jeff was thinking the same thing. So both Jeffs reached up and put their hands on each other’s shoulder and said to each other, Are you me?

With a smile, Jeff shook his head in disbelief. Both Jeffs looked down at their watches at the same time, having the same idea, and said at the same time, You could go into this world with no harm to us. I would not follow myself for another fi ve minutes.

The fi rst Jeff said, Yes, but what if you do everything I do fi ve minutes later and you could do nothing to stop it from happening?

The second Jeff quickly replied, Then let me go out into that world before you. If we can trade places and I go fi rst, then you could abort the mission at anytime because I followed you through the mirror.

Both persons that were Jeff agreed, and the fi rst one spun the vault handle and pulled it to open. The second Jeff put his hand on the fi rst Jeff’s shoulder as he walked by himself, saying, Watch from the safety of the vault.

The two persons of Jeff looked into this dimension at the same time. With eyes wide open, the second Jeff nodded his head and stepped out of the vault into a dimension like no one had ever seen before. That same beautiful color that was in the dimensional ring was in everything, including the sky. The grass he walked on was made of a darker shade of this color, only transparent and giving off a strange light. Jeff looked up and saw no sun in the sky and only a night sky with plenty of stars. Then he noticed all the plant life was giving off the same light. So he knelt down on the grass and placed his hand just above the ground, saying, There is heat radiating from this light. This is too awesome. This dimension has no need of a sun!

Jeff walked to the end of the clearing to what looked like the start of some kind of forest of strange-growing trees. He looked up at what he thought was a tree, which was positioned upside down from what we know.

The limbs were like roots growing up out of the ground and were all connected to the center of this one large trunk, shaped like an egg. At the top of this thing sat one massive fl ower, which was also transparent. Jeff could see the nutrients fl owing from the ground, through the limbs, and to the fl ower at the top. The massive fl ower opened and closed continuously. When it reached its maximum spread, it released a fountain of mist into the air with its extra nutrients, just like how our trees put out fresh oxygen into our atmosphere.

Jeff turned around to the open vault and smiled at himself. The Jeff in the vault was yelling and pointing for him to turn around, saying that something was coming. He quickly turned back around and caught the movement of something walking out of the trees. He watched two strange beings rounding the thick forest of these strange, treelike things as they continued to walk Jeff’s way into the clearing where he and the other Jeff was. They both saw Jeff and stopped.

The two aliens looked at one another without saying a word, and they both held up one fi nger. Looking back at the strange man that stood before them, they then began to study Jeff.

Likewise, Jeff began to study the two strange beings that were before him. With their transparent skin, Jeff could look right through them both. With skin the color of the ring, they stood tall and slender, about twelve feet in height. Jeff felt nothing but a presence of peace. He was about to speak when he heard in his mind the voice of this creature say, We mean you no harm.

Jeff thought what he should say when the tall beings answered him. Jeff quickly thought, You can read my mind?

The other one thought back, No, we can hear your thoughts!

In a split second, the aliens knew the other Jeff was hiding in the vault, and they both held up two fi ngers.

With both Jeffs hearing the voice of the aliens, Jeff wanted to step out of the vault and walk over there and join them. He looked at his watch, thinking to himself, I am in here for a reason. Stay focused, you still have two minutes.
