About this ebook

How would the world react if the gods from legends, myths, and old poems someday returned to the world?
Polymath follows a Planet Earth changed by the return of the gods of myth, from the gods of Egypt to the famous Zeus, Hades, and all the gods of Greek myth.

After the gods returned, a war erupted on Earth, so big that it changed the world completely. One hundred and eighty years after the culmination of the war, the story takes place, following the steps of Oroh, apprentice of the Egyptian god of knowledge Toth, and his sister Fable.
The twins, born in the new world, with a great destiny ahead of them, go their separate ways when the boy decides to take on an apprenticeship to seek the knowledge of the universe. Only to be united once again when the gods call forth a mystical and ancient ritual to pass on the guidance of the sun to the god Apollo.
Tragedy strikes the ritual and paves the way for the journey, both physical and spiritual, that the twins must embark on.

    IN THE

    BEGINNING

O ne hundred and seventeen years ago in the year 2021, the world stopped being what it was. It all started at the early part of the year. History books say it was around the old months of January or February, now called Juno’s days. According to the poem of the old world, the sky was as blue as the ocean when it was covered in dark clouds. Moments later, a light struck the earth.

An unidentified object crashed into the old city of Cairo, destroying the three old wonders of the world. When the dust cleared, the world saw what was thought to be a myth. Where the the pyramids of Egypt once stood, three beings appeared. Tall as buildings, the old text described them with the word gods. The Egyptians, blinded by the miracle that hit their eyes, bowed to the three omnipotent selves. In their eyes, all their myths had become reality. The true Pharaoh of Egypt, the god Horus, his mother Eset, and the faithful general Bast stood as the humans could not believe the epiphany.

Horus landed were the middle pyramid once stood. With his touch, the sand seemed to wash away from the tip to the bottom of the remaining structure, revealing the true appearance of the wonder. An ivory-covered beacon, the birthplace of the future. On its point, a golden light brightened the sky. The god Horus flew from the pyramid and landed, his body changing from his godly form into a form they could recognize.

The rest of the humans, the ones far from Cairo got surprised by the events and poisoned by ignorance, refused the gods and ran in fear.

The news traveled fast, soon every continent in the old world shouted the news. That was when a second light hit, then another, then a thousand lights. All over the world, the dark sky was being punctured by these lights. In retaliation against the unknown, humans sent their most powerful weapons to confront the beings. Cultures began to crumble at the knowledge that their beliefs had been wrong all these years. Doubt, fear began to poison the human mind and within months the world was in chaos.

In every major jewel of the world, mythical beings were being gathered. These gods of myth were real. The human mind could not process this, so violence was the answer to the impossible question. At first the beings did not pose a threat. In Greece, they unified themselves in the tallest pantheons of Zeus in Olympia.

The ruins of Machu Picchu had been closed off completely, for the mountains now blocked the path to the old city. No matter how many weapons humans threw, as they got miles closer to the sites, they stopped working.

The leaders of the old world met for the first time. For the first time, no political view mattered. The world was facing something that they were never prepared for: the unthinkable. Myths were real.

The Vatican went silent, for they too were in disbelief.

No human was allowed within a hundred miles of the sites, and for three hundred days there was no activity from any of the beings.

That is, until the sky once again turned dark. Out of the darkness a single entity arose. The drawings show that his body was made of darkness, his eyes as bright yellow as the sun. His hair seemed like dreadlocks made of the thickest thread ever known to man. On his chest, the creature had a symbol never before seen in any books of man. It was a triangle but no side touched the other in the center of a single circle, a dark circle. That was when the silence of the gods ended. The earth saw a war much bigger than any war they could have seen. That day the world changed completely.

In the year 2088, a woman, born in the new world, the new city of Castor, land of the goddess Artemis, gave birth to particularly important twins. The twins caught the eye of the surviving gods. Artemis herself was present at their birth, for the twins had an incredibly special mark in the middle of their foreheads. The boy, with white skin and dark hair, had the mark of a triangle with the sides not touching in the middle of a circle. However, the girl had white skin like her brother, but her hair and eyebrows were auburn like the sunset. She had the same triangle, but the middle symbol had changed. Instead of a circle, she had another triangle.

Their mother, named Anna, gave the twins two very peculiar names. The boy’s name was Oroh, and the girl’s name was Fable. The goddess, at the birth, filled with concern about the meaning of the twins, gave each of them a blessing. For the boy, he would be like the sky. She named him Oroh Ouranos. The girl would be like the ocean. Artemis named her Fable Neptune. However, the goddess made the mother promise to keep their surnames a secret until called upon by her. Only the other gods would know them.

Oroh grew up to be a sagacious seeker of knowledge. At the age of twenty-five, now a man, his mother taught him of his birth and the reason by which he got his birthmarks. That was the day he departed on his trip to be advisor to the god Toth of the Sand. He was to learn the knowledge of the universe.

The girl, Fable, grew to be a politician and a representative of the capital city of Castor under the tutelage of Artemis herself. Two days later, after her brother had departed, she too learned of her surname and of the night of her birth.

That same day, brother and sister would stop aging, and eventually Fable saw the death of her mother as her body grew weary and old, as her bones hurt and her eyes were robbed of sight. Meanwhile, thirty years after, she still looked like the same twenty-five-year-old girl who said goodbye to her brother, only to see him again days after her mother’s death.

This is the story of the old gods, of the old world, and how the future was shaped and the new gods were born into this world.

    GODSPEED

F or thirty years Oroh had not seen his sister. The excitement was overwhelming. Despite the messages shared, he always felt far from her. Now, three weeks ago he had received a message of their mother’s passing. Anna’s last wish was for her children to get together once again on her funeral bed and read her the rite of passage.

From the day of the arrival of the letter he had kept in constant communication with his sister. The rite of passage date was five days away. It gave him enough time to accompany his master to the summit.

On the yearly summit on the summer solstice, all the leaders of the world would meet and discuss matters of the new world. However, this summit had an ulterior purpose. It was the day when another covenant would be signed. Ra, the one above, would pass on the tutelage of the yellow star to the Greek god Apollo.

Oroh had been training on the ritual for the past fifteen years. Chosen by Pharaoh Horus as the messiah of the ritual, he had the responsibility of making sure the transfer of power got done without any inconvenience. However, the disturbing letter had derailed his mind out of focus.

The day before the summit, Oroh visited his master. Toth was a peculiar type of being. The Mausoleum of the Nile was a new set of structure built by the army of Sekhmet a couple of years after the great war. It was composed of five pyramids surrounding the three Giza pyramids where the gods resided. What was called Egypt was now called the continent of Kemet. The city of Convergence was where the three old pyramids were located. However, Sekhmet had been charged to rebuild the land of Myth over the destruction left in Cairo after the great war.

Toth’s home resided a bit separate from the other gods, for he was more of an introvert. As the god of knowledge, he liked to keep his distance and only show his face when his Pharaoh demanded it. Oroh’s home was right next to his master’s. It was a small home, a remnant of the old world, a fallen building built back with the magic and architecture of the warriors of Sekhmet. It was located around one mile from the banks of the Nile River. The remnants of the buildings had been mixed with ivory, creating a small two-floor home. Adorned with the same crystals. On the top floor a library was located. It had more than two thousand books, some collected as inheritance from his master, the rest bought from the library of Bast.

That day Oroh woke early, his head filled with worries and at the same time excitement. He had been to numerous summits since he started his work with Toth; however, this one was special, and it was more special because he was to be the messiah. Although he did not know the real reason for his choosing, he never took it as a curse, in his mind, it was more like a duty, assigned by his master.

Waking up to the sound of the river moving down the sandy shores was always his favorite. He stood up, and from his chambers on the first floor he could see the Nile River as it flowed. Toth had told him many times the story of how the river was formed and about its deities. No matter how much he looked at it, it was still an outstanding sight.

When the sun was already above the horizon, he knew it was time to complete the preparations for tomorrow. His day was filled with activities. He needed to get them done before the sunset, which was when he had a meeting with Pharaoh Horus.

Oroh dressed comfortably. A long orange coat, dark pants, and a blue button-down shirt. He wore the dark ceremonial shoes he had gotten from a friend. His hair was combed back tightly together in a ponytail. It had gotten longer since the last time he cut it. Three years without visiting the stylist since he was chosen as messiah. He could not cut his hair. A strange tradition, he thought, but he never complained. He’d grown up with long hair, so it never bothered him. If his face grew the same amount of hair as his head, then it would bother him one bit. However, his face stayed hairless, his long lashes the envy of many women, which made his blue eyes light up as the light of the morning sun hit it.

Oroh always feared that the only reason he was chosen to be messiah was because of his relationship with the goddess Hathor. The goddess of love had taken a keen interest in him from the moment he arrived thirty years ago. The boy’s kind was rare in the new world. In the old world, gods would have kids with everyone all the time. Many names in history were godkind. However, the boy had no god ancestry that they knew of. Only the moon goddess Artemis had blessed them at birth. However, Hathor had taken quite an interest in him since he arrived on the sand continent.

At first Oroh saw it as amusement, the fact that a goddess could be interested in him seemed irrational, so he secluded himself from false attachments. The relationship became serious when at the night of the choosing she was the one that gave the last vote to him, unexpectedly, even after his own master had voted against it. The Pharaoh, was as surprised as Toth himself. However, the choosing was one of the most ancient of laws created by Ra and the servants of EL.

After the ceremony ended, he visited the goddess’ chambers. After making love, she confessed her obsession with him, a boy born under the sun of Ra in a foreign land, blessed by an Olympian, with red blood in his veins, but an enemy of death. Such an anomaly had never happened. Usually whenever a mortal lived forever it meant that he was godkind, his parents were of godly descent, or he was fathered by a god and a human. However, Oroh was none of those.

His mother was the human advisor to Artemis in the city of Castor. His father, a man whom even his mom had forgotten; for once you were devoted to the virgin goddess, being with child was a rare thing. This made him and his sister the only ones in the world and also made them famous throughout all the lands.

Before parting to learn under Toth, Oroh had gotten letters from every major deity in the world asking to meet him; however, his mother’s sickness was starting to emerge. So he rejected them until Artemis commanded him to go live his life, for she and Fable would take care of his mother until her passing.

Her sickness had begun so sudden, one day she was good, the next time the sun rose, Anna’s life left her. Not even the goddess had an answer for what it was. Oroh even asked an audience with Chronos, god of time, to plead with him to slow time for his mother for him to find an answer. But the god declined.

Artemis had promised that she would do everything she could in order
