    PREFACE

From the dawn of creation, human beings have always sought to gain more benefits. Benefits could be exemplified in several ways, like financial, health, and spiritual. Today the concept of success reflects the comprehensive achievement of different benefits in life. Success in various aspects of life is important, but what matters more is the sustainability of success. Short-term benefits only satiate human needs temporarily, and humans’ thirst for the improvement of quality of life will be quenched only once their benefits are long term and permanent.

A trending topic, success management not only helps people earn benefit but also is a powerful tool to sustain it. This book is the fruit of many years of learning and research on achieving and maintaining sustainable success. After getting to know a bit about the author, his life story, and the book’s structure, you will learn about the law of attraction and its application in your life in the early chapters. You will then learn about the practical tools for success and the scientific approach to assess your life condition. Then you will read about eight of the greatest methods of successful life management, and you will be provided with numerous examples of practical implementation of these methods in real life.

The principles presented in this book have been developed based on a scientific approach and are presented in simple words, along with numerous examples, so readers could be engrossed in the book and practically apply those principles in their lives. This book’s chapters are written based on a step-by-step learning method to walk the reader through progressively to reach a successful life. However, the reader can choose which chapters to read first based on their need. It is recommended that one read the whole book from cover to cover and then review the required sections later. This approach will yield the desired effect on the reader’s mind.

What initially motivated the author to write this book was to help those who have decided to choose a better path for the rest of their lives and to improve the quality of their life in different aspects, those who, besides their desire for success, need tried-and-true methods to save money and time on their path to achieving and maintaining success. We must not forget that life is a gift of God, and the way we live is our gift to the Creator.

I want to express my sincere gratitude to those who helped me in the month-long course of writing this book, especially my wife, who made all the sacrifices to prepare the favourable situation for this book to happen. Also, I would like to thank Milad Fouladgar, who attentively helped me in final editing.

I hope this book can be a guide to improving the quality of life of the readers.

    ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Dr. Ali Soofastaei was born on a hot summer afternoon in Isfahan, one of Iran’s oldest cities. He was raised in deteriorating economic and social conditions. Iran was in a full-scale war with its neighbouring country, Iraq. His idealist attitude made it possible for him to exploit all available sources as much as possible and subsequently achieve great scientific success, self-confidence, and self-esteem. Although he did not have enough resources, he ranked first in mathematics, computer, and physics Olympiads, achieved through his talent and assiduity.

Ali started to study mechanical engineering at university while he also had to work because of his financial problems. He successfully graduated with a bachelor’s degree, and he earned the highest distinction among other students. Then Ali did his two-year military service, mandatory for males of eighteen years of age and older. Although it was tough to serve in the Iran Army Ground Forces, he saw his success as the result of the discipline practised there. His dream of studying for a master’s degree came true after the service. Ali received a master’s degree in industrial engineering, and he ranked first in his discipline. He worked as a consultant to engineering companies in different fields such as petroleum, gas, nuclear power, and renewable energy. His educational and professional efforts helped him build an ideal life in his motherland.

Nevertheless, his interest in making progress and acquiring knowledge motivated him to immigrate to Australia with his wife. He completed his PhD and postdoctoral studies and started teaching in some of the most prestigious universities to be known as an international researcher. He published more than seventy scientific articles and several books on artificial intelligence to develop predictive, optimization, and decision-making models in ten years. As a keynote speaker, Ali delivered speeches in more than forty international conferences in the United States, Canada, Australia, South America, Europe, and Asia and patented over ten international inventions. Dr. Soofastaei currently works as an artificial intelligence scientist and industrial global project leader.

    CHAPTER I

    INTRODUCTION

    Abstract

In the first chapter, we will read a brief account of the author’s life and follow him in his journey to success from the beginning, when he faced difficulties as a young boy from the lowest social class, to when he built a sustainably successful life. We will then discuss the importance of this book and how its content is different from that of other similar publications out there in the market. This book is a practical guide for those who seek a prosperous and peaceful lifestyle.

    What I Have Been Through

This book presents simple principles and scientific techniques by which you can leave behind your current situation and achieve your ideal condition. Such principles are not bound to a particular time or place. Successful people have applied them, knowingly or otherwise, throughout history in different places. I have faith in these principles’ power, for they are the results of many years of studying and teaching in different universities, working with international companies, and travelling to several countries. I have used these principles for many years in my personal life, and as a result, I can now enjoy my success and peace of mind. You will also learn how to apply these principles in your personal life. I have been blessed with countless miraculous instances of success, but you will read real-life examples of the success I have notched up by applying these principles. Such examples prove their feasibility.

My life started from a low social class. I was raised in Isfahan, one of Iran’s historical cities, in a low-income family with a religious affiliation. My dad worked for a steel company, my mother was a homemaker, and I had one elder brother and one elder sister. They had no great wishes and big dreams. They had never set any ambitious goals of their own. All summer long, I worked in carpentry to save up for schooldays.

When I was a child, Iran and Iraq were in an all-out war. Families were not in proper socioeconomic conditions, and our financial situation was even below average. Despite being the top student from elementary school to university, I always felt degraded because of my family’s financial status. After the war, Iran’s economic condition improved a tad, but ours did not change considerably. I was the only member of the family who objected to that situation. I was not satisfied with the existing condition, but I could not find a way to improve it. My family thought that they were doomed to live like that, and with false religious beliefs, they considered poverty as a means to be closer to God. I thought about change all the time, and I always believed that I would succeed if I studied more, and it was the path in which I was always successful.

Hope for a better future was the only thing that motivated me, although I had faced a great deal of hardship. There was a light in my heart that was constant, albeit not more than a shimmer. Maybe the bad vibes from the people around me were the thing that annoyed me the most. Everyone debased me except my mom, who never seized to believe in me and always hoped that the best would come my way. They had internalized the idea of poverty and misfortune so profoundly that nothing seemed to bring about change. I was afraid of being around pessimists who tried to make me believe I was worthless and that the future had even worse in store for me. Their negative vibes intimidated all my wishes and shattered all my beautiful childhood motivations and beliefs.

The ray of hope was fading day after day. Those around me had made a habit of degrading me, even for something I had nothing to do with. I would only try to cope, but my hopes for change were getting dimmer. This was until one summer afternoon when everything changed. Even after a decade, I still remember it as the most important turning point in my life.

It was a hot, humid summer afternoon, and I was sitting in front of the TV, doing nothing but flicking through the channels. Images on the screen ran before my eyes, showing cosmetic product commercials, animal life documentaries, and global warming driving polar bears to extinction. I was not watching any of them, but suddenly, I noticed a motivational speaker’s words. I felt as if I could not switch the channels anymore. I was immersed in his words.

So determined and handsome, a middle-aged white-bearded man was talking about his own life story. His early life was exactly like mine. I heard about the same feelings, the same rays of hope, and the same story. It all impressed me. I had lost track of time. I was genuinely excited; every single word he uttered felt like a god-sent revelation, and I would hear the messages through him. He was one of the most successful people in Iran. He went on for three hours about his studies on the path to success. Having travelled to more than fifty countries, he had conducted his research over a long period. His words awakened fiery passions in me.

That afternoon and that evening were like a transitional stage of my life in an attempt to free myself from the traps of disbelief and failure set up by others, and the next day, I could fly in the sky of life like a bird. In just twelve hours, I reviewed all the foundational principles of a successful life. Without eating or drinking or sleeping a wink, I studied for a whole twelve hours. I prepared a list of all the books on these principles, and I spent all my savings on them. The words of that great man cast a light on a path I had long been looking for. I started reading books as if they would quench my thirst. I listened to audio tapes and watched many lecture videos. I imagined myself sitting on the shoulders of giants carrying me with vigour, supported by the great infinite energy of being. Step by step, I found teachers in different stages to instruct me about what I needed to achieve success. Anthony Robbins, Wayne Dyer, Jack Canfield, Florence Scovel Shinn, Stephen Covey, Steve Harvey, Woo-Choong Kim, Darren Hardy, Napoleon Hill, Jim Rohn, Rhonda Byrne, and Brian Tracy were like prophets who were conveying God’s revelation of success to me.

Everything was changing so quickly. Success in education, peace in the family, new friends, and ideal job offers were all opportunities that led me to my final goal step by step. One day when I was in one of the holiest cities of the world founded by Abraham, the prophet, I cried and shouted at God, telling him, ‘Why did not you send these people and offers before that summer afternoon? Where were you when I was lamenting in poverty and hardship?’

And then I heard a heavenly whisper. Ali, the whole universe has been there with you and for you together with me, but you were not the same person before that afternoon. Changing the beliefs, thoughts, and feelings unveiled things before your eyes to see opportunities and better circumstances surrounding you. You were the veil before your own eyes. I have always kept you safe and provided you with opportunities.

    Significance of This Book

There are many books, films, and websites discussing success and the paths to success, but this book is distinctive in that it presents some of the success principles in simple words. The author practically uses these principles for many years, and he has assessed them in his personal and professional life. This book embodies the exact concepts of success principles scientifically and presents practical solutions to materialize each.

The self-assessment system presented in this book is a unique method by which the readers can manage the powers inside themselves to achieve sustainable success. Unlike other sources that reflect a materialistic, one-dimensional concept of success, this book studies all its aspects like spiritual, psychological, physical, and of course material, and it provides an assessable solution for each one. This book offers principles for everyone regardless of religion, sex, nationality, age, education, and wealth. Besides introductions and theoretical discussions at the beginning of each chapter, the major part of this book consists of exercises and multiple practical techniques that are theoretically helpful and useful for the readers to improve their emotional relationships, health, and prosperity.

The rapid advancements in technology have provided us with means of attaining success more efficiently that are not available in the past. Classic and old resources have established constant principles throughout history, but most of them contain outdated examples that are hard to comprehend in the modern day. Drawing on the classic principles of success, this book provides creative and up-to-date examples by which the readers can assess themselves better and make the best of them.

    What Is Success?

Success seems to be a simple and tangible term for everyone, but it is too complicated to have a single exact definition. There are as many definitions of success as the number of people on the face of the planet. Everyone may define success concerning their viewpoint, situation, personality, and mindset. The person you see as successful might be seen otherwise by someone else. Even philosophers and scholars throughout history have failed to define success. However, we could define success in a sentence:

Success is enjoying comfort and peace of mind in life.

This definition can justify many dimensions of success. For example, when you earn money, which brings you comfort, it is considered a success. If marriage brings you peace of mind, it is a success. Most people see a successful person as one whose dreams have come true, one who has reached a sense of self-satisfaction, which calls for constant hard work and endeavour. It can be said that no one is successful unless they find peace, and peace results from the sense of being helpful and being valued. In the heart of success lies the possession of such blessings as money, respect, greatness, honour, good job, health, love, helpfulness, and being free from anxiety and fear.

Success is a dynamic concept; that is, it can be defined in various ways in life. Many successful people define success as a ‘positive feeling’ that nurtures positive energies and thoughts. In fact, success is the result of the continuous effort to reach the goals. The point here is that success can be acquired, but it is never inherited. The key to real success is to try, learn, seek, fail, and never give up. In short, successful people are not born, but they are made through the course of time and training.

Everyone seeks success and finds its manifestations in different things. High income and savings are materialistic reflections of success. For a patient, recovery is a success. A proper upbringing of children is a success for parents. To reach greater scientific achievements is a success for those who seek knowledge. Some scholars consider success as a golden triangle with three sides of peace, planning, and action.

    1-1.jpg

Figure 1.1. The golden triangle of success.

So in this book, success is defined as ‘advancing all aspects of life with a constant improvement plan’. These aspects are health, spirituality, money, peace, knowledge, love, and serving others. This definition is proposed because man has different dimensions, all of which must be improved to achieve success. A person cannot be successful by promoting and developing merely one aspect. They must develop all aspects of their lives to reach the ultimate purpose, namely, success.

    Components of a Successful Personality

A successful personality has seven qualities.

    Moving forward

Success is like riding a bicycle. The balance of the bike is maintained as long as it is moving. The big mistake is that we want to keep the balance without moving forwards, and this is exactly why we seethe with frustration. Setting goals and incessantly moving towards the goals are essential qualities of a successful person. It is noteworthy that the more important and valuable the goals you set, the greater success you will achieve.

    Understanding

Most of our failed relationships with other people result from poor communication and give rise to misunderstandings. The problem is that, in different situations, we expect others to react just like we do. But we must not forget that any person reacts to various matters based on their own set of beliefs. Most of the times, people’s reaction to us is not aimed at annoying or harming us or bearing any kind of malice, but they just behave based on how they comprehend the situation. Successful people always try to grasp these differences and improve their understanding and interaction in their daily communication.

    Courage

It is not enough to be purposeful, comprehend the situation, and plan to reach success. Courage is necessary for any person who seeks success. Only courageous actions will fulfil wishes, tendencies, and goals. The difference between successful and unsuccessful people is not always about their viewpoints or abilities but about bravery to take action. Inactivity and passiveness will make a person nervous and vulnerable to different problems. One must be brave and take a leap in the dark. We must accept that we might expose ourselves to mistakes in every path, but we must not allow them to prevent us from taking actions.

    Benevolence

Successful people also care about others and hold others with respect. They treat others as they deserve. It is a fact that when we feel more benevolent towards others, we unconsciously become more generous towards ourselves. There are three ways to improve our benevolence:

    1. We must consider all human beings as created by a Creator who has everything in his hand. With this viewpoint, every person represents God, who will reward our kindness as countless blessings.

    2. Before giving any reaction to other people, we must think a little about the feelings, viewpoints, tendencies, and needs of others so that we can try to see everything through their eyes.

    3. We must see the people around us regardless of their wealth, education, and social class and treat them appropriately. This is the behaviour that leads us to the feelings that are necessary for success.

    Self-esteem

Low self-esteem is the worst of all pitfalls coming our way and is very dangerous and really hard to overcome. Underestimating ourselves does not imply humility. It is a flaw, an unforgivable sin. The ones with high self-esteem never feel hatred for anyone, never try to forcefully impose their beliefs, and never seek others’ approval. They know their inner truths better than anyone else. To improve our self-esteem, we must realize our value. We need to believe that we are representatives of God. This self-realization is no more pride or egoism; thus, we will hold ourselves and others in esteem.

    Self-confidence

Self-confidence is gained through experiencing success, and it will be a bridge to future success. In fact, one success will pave the way for another by improving self-confidence. To create and maintain self-confidence, it is not necessary to achieve great success. Even a minor achievement will lead to considerable improvement in self-confidence.

Another method to improve self-confidence is to remember successes and forget failures. The unconscious mind naturally tends to record bad memories and failures, and these recordings are for the preservation of life. The unconscious mind knows that past mistakes must be recorded to avoid and prevent them in the future. This is innate and has saved humankind from extinction, for it helps them avoid risks. However, this can also cause a decrement in self-confidence. Remembering failures might suggest to us that we are weak. Therefore, knowing this, we must consciously try to forget about our failures as much as possible; and instead, we must remember the times of success and the happy days continuously. This is how we can develop strong beliefs and high self-confidence.

    Self-acceptance

Success begins when one accepts themselves in whatever condition and shape and with all the abilities and talents. As long as we do not know ourselves and do not accept our internal and external realities, we will not achieve true success and happiness. The weakest people are the ones who make every effort to persuade themselves and others to accept them in a way other than what they really are. Most of us are more powerful, worthier, and better than what we think.
