    INTRODUCTION

    My name is Raj Gupta III. I am twenty-nine years-old and have worked ever since I was seventeen years old when I had to drop out of high school to provide for myself and for my young daughter.

    I was always ambitious and wanted to keep reaching for new levels of accomplishment. After dropping out, I started applying to different odd jobs, and I stumbled upon a Kirby vacuum franchise. I called in for an interview and I got it, I showed up the next day but I didn’t have a resume to give them. I told the recruiter that I was seventeen and I had a newborn. I also told him that I planned to be a millionaire by the time I turn thirty. The recruiter laughed at me and said they didn’t have a position for me. As he was walking me towards the door, I asked, Is there is nothing I can do? Before I left, I took the recruiter’s name and told him that he would be hearing from me. And he did. I called four times that day asking to speak with him. He finally took my call and said, You’re more persistent than most people who work here, so your training starts on Tuesday. Be here at 9 a.m.

    I was so overwhelmed with joy that I forgot how hungry I was and how I needed money to buy food for the week. The mother of my first born was an angel and did the shopping for food that day in celebration of my new job. Her family had taken me in because, despite the fact that I had nothing to offer, they saw that I was putting in the effort to be there and provide for my young family. This is a public thank you to the Johnson Family.

    I was wearing my new oversized goodwill clothes when Tuesday came. Though the recruiter had said that my training would begin at 9 a.m., I was at the office at 8 a.m. Even sitting alone in the training room for
