    ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

For my son, who gave me the idea to expand on this character and the opportunity to work with him. And for my daughter, who constantly challenges me to do more.

    PROLOGUE

Let me guess, you’re probably wondering why I’m not some fat guys dinner by now, or perhaps gone back to just being a pet, a subordinate, a lieutenant! I am nobodies’ pawn or ever will be. I am not a side dish; I am the main event! I will kill them all before I end up as bacon for some snotty nosed kid! I’ll…wait, hold on, where am I? Blast! It appears I’ve gotten a bit lost. All these trees look the bloody same. Right, well. It seems like we have a little time while I get my bearings. So, I’ll give you a little insight to the miracle that is me. It all began in a run-down barn within a run-down farm that I hated every inch of! And an old farmer that gave me the abilities of a god…

    I…HANNIBAL AKA

    PIGGY SMALLS

I never knew my father. Well, not my biological one anyway. I’m what you would call divine creation or a leap in evolution; or perhaps I am a monster like Frankenstein’s creature. Either way, the only father I ever knew was an out of luck, out of his depth, tin-hat wearing, nut-job that didn’t know what to do with a farm if it landed on his head. Which it did. And he didn’t.

    CHAPTER 1

Gordan wasn’t the smartest of men, even though he was a scientist. He was a middle-aged man, who didn’t seem capable of looking after himself at the best of times. He didn’t see the sun very often. Always wearing a shirt and tie under his lab coat, yet always dishevelled and ungroomed. He wore spectacles that would always fall down his nose, making him constantly push them back up. He always seemed to naively believe the craziest theories and stories which led to him making misguided decisions time after time. This in turn led to his wife leaving him and re-marrying, him losing everything and becoming a little crazy himself. What he lacked in his sense of judgement, he made up for in his willingness to please and his good nature. This, along with his quirks, made him quite well known and liked in his suburban neighbourhood. Despite this, he was obsessed with his work and science projects that he often became reclusive, lost in his own world for days on end. When his parents passed away, they left him the farmhouse he grew up in; and while reminiscing on his childhood memories decided to move back there and become a farmer like his dad. He would still have time to do his science projects and the space would be perfect to set up and conduct his experiments without interruption.

Two years later, Gordan had begun to realise that running a farm was no walk in the park. More like a race in the mud; and he was losing. At first, he had hired a couple of workers to help him with the day to day errands; but they ended up helping themselves to whatever they wanted, as Gordan was too busy with his conspiracy theories and science projects to notice. Eventually, the land grew nothing, but weeds and he had lost most of his livestock to malnutrition, disease or poachers. In all honesty, some of them probably ran away in hopes of a better life in greener pastures. The house needed repairing, as did the barn and Gordan was suddenly becoming desperate. As a neurologist, he understood enough about genetic modification to believe he could work out the math for creating genetically enhanced pigs the size of a cow. He would be rich. As a conspiracy theorist that watched a lot of YouTube, he was crazy enough to do it. He could save the farm. He could make it all better again. Like the good old days.

Gordan was in his lab buried in his work; deep in thought, muttering to himself as he busily wrote some equations on his board. He didn’t even notice the terrible storm raging outside until a loud crash of thunder coincided with his outburst of laughter and a cry of I did it! He turned around startled by the boom, then rushed to prepare his formula as he started mixing a concoction of ingredients. His pet dog came up to him and rubbed against his leg, wagging her tail. He looked down at her, she was a young, Jack Russell Terrier. She adored Gordan and felt a sense of duty and loyalty towards him. She was his only true friend.

Not now, Poochie. I’m busy. Gordan said to her, then turned back to his work. Once he was satisfied, he quickly went outside to the barn when lightning struck a tree in front of him. He watched in horror and amazement as the tree caught fire and fell onto the barn. With bewilderment in his eyes and adrenaline in his veins he ran inside to witness his two pigs trapped as the fire started to spread inside the barn. He heard squealing and barking as his dog came up behind him. His bull started bucking and braying in his pen. Gordan noticed the squealing was only coming from one of his pigs because the male was dead. He only needed the female anyway. He looked up at the sky as the rain started putting the fire out. He knew what he had to do.

    CHAPTER 2

I didn’t ask to be born into this world. But I did ask if I could rule it. After all, I am a fair king and my subjects would be loyal if I value their opinion…or at least seem to…when it suits me. It doesn’t really suit me.

Hannibal slowly opened his eyes and blinked a few times as he tried to adjust his focus. He instinctively tried to gage his whereabouts and check if there were any threats to his existence. Then he questioned his existence entirely. Who and what was he? He instantly felt hungry and immediately started squealing without even knowing why, but he knew he wasn’t happy.

Ah, this one is so small and cute! Gordan proclaimed
