About this ebook

Friendship Radio was written to tell the story of the beginning of this unique ministry and to show readers how real and involved the Lord is in our lives. He is a God of love and care, and has a concern for our every need. I also wanted to show that we are not all alone in our work for the Lord. He brings people into our lives who are just who is needed and with whom we can share the joys of serving the Lord together.

    About the Author

    Preface

This story began as a historical remembrance for my children. However, along the way, I thought that I may want to send it to some people who worked with Steve on FR. So, it may seem to be directed not just to my children as the readers of this documentation. I have wanted to do this for years, and now it is finished.

    Acknowledgments

I want to express my appreciation to several at Westbow Publishing who assisted me in getting this book published. Kathy Lester was the first one who contacted me. She encouraged me to put my manuscript into a book. Flo Sanders walked me through the process with advice that greatly improved the development of the physical aspects of the book. Tim Fitch has been an invaluable asset in getting the final editing done. Together we made it!

I want each reader to see the wonderful way the Lord directed in Steve’s life and ministry.

    Chapter 1

    Steve Tygert’s Radio Passion

In early summer of 1986, I asked my husband, Steve, if I could throw away an advertisement* that I had picked up from our mailbox. It was an ad for cable radio. He replied, No, just put it on my desk as I want to look at it again later.

He had been reading in a broadcast magazine about a businessman who had arranged for a channel on a cable radio company to be used to broadcast various news information clips for English-speaking people staying in the downtown hotels in Tokyo. Steve thought, If he can do that for the hotels, why wouldn’t it be possible to do the same thing, using programs from the Bible, to reach non-Christians throughout Japan?

    This seed thought grew
