The Gifts for Millennials: Spiritual Gifts in the 21St Century

About this ebook
Siblings Jared, Joel, Emily, and Rebecca Linville plan to close out their summer with a short-term mission trip to Haiti. Strong Christians, they know they need to be in good physical and spiritual shape to prepare for a journey to a place where the enemy has such a stronghold. Nothing could have prepared them for the life-changing adventure overseas.
Everything is different in Haiti. For these American youth, the atmosphere of Haiti is much louder and dirtier. It’s not easy at first to acclimate, but to preach the message of Christ, they must toughen up and use each of their spiritual gifts. The Lord gives many gifts, including wisdom, knowledge, healing, and prophecy; we simply must learn how to use them.
The Gifts for Millennials is intended to demonstrate that the gifts of the Spirit can be used in very practical and down-to-earth ways and are available for all who receive them in childlike faith. A must-read for youth pastors, youth group leaders, and any high school or college student serious about digging into the Sign Gifts, this book also educates about the mission field and Haitian culture.

24583.pngNow there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord. There are varieties of effects, but the same God who works all things in all persons. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.
For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, and to another the effecting of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another the distinguishing of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues.
But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills.

GettyImages891527332.jpgTHE LINVILLE GANG gathered excitedly in the meeting room of the youth hostel where they were staying near Lincoln in the mountains of New Hampshire. They had been staying at the hostel for most of the summer, and had been climbing some of the easier mountain peaks and doing a few day hikes with small backpacks. The boys, Jared and Joel, had hiked the Franconia Range and some of the isolated mountains in the Pemigewasset Wilderness on a three-day backpacking trip. The girls, Emily and Rebecca, had stayed closer to the hostel and the two campgrounds where they had spent the summer.
Jared had just graduated from high school and would be going off to the University of Virginia in the fall. Emily was going to be a junior and was majoring in drama and literature. Joel was going into his sophomore year in high school, and Rebecca, 13, was going into the eighth grade at Lynchburg Middle School in the foothills of Virginia. They had spent about six weeks in New Hampshire, near where some of their family had originated, and they had thought that this was a good opportunity to clear their minds of some of the clutter and trappings of life in America as a teenager in the 21st Century.
They had planned to close out the summer with a short-term missions trip to Haiti, and they knew that they would need to be in good physical condition and spiritually prepared for such a journey into a stronghold of the Enemy.
The children had attended the Kancamagus Christian Fellowship until two years ago when they moved from Woodstock, NH to Lynchburg, VA. The older teenagers had been involved with the youth group and had helped to raise money for previous trips to Haiti. For this reason their parents felt comfortable with them spending the summer in the mountains of New Hampshire, and then going to Haiti for a week.
26082.pngThe director of the hostel had called them to the meeting room, and had told them that their brother Josh had stopped by and left off a bag of gifts from Father. He mentioned to the director that it was important that the teenagers receive these and that they would be needing some of them in the near future. He also let them know that their cousin Hannah, who had planned to go to Haiti with them, would be flying into Manchester that afternoon, and Jared would have to go and pick her up. They decided to wait until Hannah arrived before they opened up the gifts from Father.
Jared and Emily jumped into the Jetta that the director of the hostel let him borrow, after promising under the pain of death that he would keep it within the speed limit. Joel and Rebecca stayed back and played cribbage at the hostel.
Emily said, Oh, I can’t wait to see Hannah. She is just going to die when she sees that I have chopped off my hair and put in highlights.
Jared said, I don’t know why girls want to change their hair color and length every five minutes. Why can’t they just have a crew cut like me?
You are being so silly, Jared,
said Emily. Oh look, there is a toll booth up ahead. Do you have a dollar?
Well, actually I don’t,
said Jared. I was hoping I could borrow one from you.
