    Prologue

On a dark and cold Halloween night, a young boy named David Graves had brutally murdered his mother’s boyfriend, his older sister and her boyfriend when his mother was at work. Leaving only his mother and baby sister alive because they were the only people in the world that he loved.

He was put away in a mental hospital called Ridgefield Sanitarium where he was placed under the care of a psychiatrist who did nothing but exploit him for his own personal financial gain.

About a year into David’s stay, he had brutally attacked and nearly killed a nurse who was watching him. David’s mother became so distraught over her son being a cold blooded murderer that she couldn’t live with it anymore. Therefore, she shot herself forgetting about her other child, who was just a year old baby girl at the time. Fifteen years later, David had brutally murdered several staff members of the hospital that he was committed to in order to escape. He wanted to reclaim his baby sister so they could be a family again. Therefore, he returns to Shannonville, PA to find her, but what he doesn’t realize is that she wouldn’t know or even remember him. However, that doesn’t matter to him because he wants her back. He will and did kill anyone who gets in his way of reclaiming his baby sister. David wanted her back so much that he murdered her adopted parents and some of her friends. After constant repeated attacks on his sister and her friends, David had driven his sister insane.

Now that David is believed and presumed to be dead and with his sister Paige institutionalized, the town of Shannonville thinks that the Graves Halloween nightmare is over, but they couldn’t be more wrong. Things remain quiet and the town is trying to forget about the past. Visitors come and go. People walk the streets feeling the safety of their neighborhoods trying to return. Things seem to be returning to the way things used to be. The worst crime being committed in this small town is people getting tagged for speeding or unpaid parking tickets. Parents are starting to feel secure again that when their children go out, they will come home alive and in one piece again. The only gun shots that are being heard are to start high school sporting events. The only screams that are being heard is when someone home is leaving their television sets to loud. The only worries that are being held in this towns families again are if their sons and daughters are using birth control. In the town of Shannonville, things are finally returning to normal. Especially since Dr. Jason Curtis hasn’t been trying to promote anymore of his money greedy books or trying to keep exploiting this towns misery.

However, things do not remain this way for long. Now, five years later, Paige decides to follow in her brothers footsteps and escapes from the same hospital that he was committed in so she can return to Shannonville. She decides that she wants to come home to take care of some unfinished family business. She knows that the past will never stay buried, it will always come back to haunt her until she confronts it once and for all. Although, after she escapes, the murders in Shannonville begin to start all over again. When the town hears of this, they think and realize that they will never be free of this until the entire Graves’ family is dead. Since they know that Paige has come back, the evil of hell has come back with her and they know that the only way that their town will be free is that Paige must die too. All the town wants is to live in peace. With the exception of a handful of people who still love Paige and don’t blame her for what David did years ago, the entire town has turned against her. They all think she has taken her brothers place because of these new murders, but has she?

Even though everyone thinks that David was killed in a fire because there was no trace of his body, was he?

The people of Shannonville had forgotten that David’s body disappeared and was presumed dead once before, but he wasn’t. He came back to create more terror than he did before.

Could he still be alive or is Paige taking her brothers place? When Paige sees her brother watching her, is he really there or is he just a vision that is in her insane mind?

Everyone, especially Corothers is astonished to discover that somehow Ellie had survived David’s second attack on her.

How does Paige find out the long hidden secret about herself and the Graves family? Also, what is this long kept secret?

    Paige’s narration of the story

Paige Comptons voice tells this story from the beginning. She begins with these opening remarks.

"It all began about twenty four years ago with a small town family. This family was a very dysfunctional one. Many would call them a white trash family. The mother of this family was a working stripper and she was so cheap and easy that she would hook up with every lowlife bum that she met. Her name was Rachel. She was so easy and ready to spread her legs for every guy she ever met. The woman had three children to three different guys and none of them, not even Rachel, really ever knew who their real fathers were or are.

Since Rachel was a lowlife herself and didn’t really care about providing for her family as a real mother should, she had her children living in rundown hovels with her and her boyfriends of the week. Rachel didn’t even seem to care to much when some of her boyfriends would put the moves on her seventeen year old daughter or torment her ten year old son. The only one she did seem to defend a little was her two year old daughter. These children seemed to live through hell because of their mother.

The oldest of the children was her daughter Judith, who appeared to be following in her mother’s footsteps. The youngest of the children was a baby girl and her name was Danielle, but she was truly loved by one person at the time. That person was her ten year old brother and his name was David. These people were the Graves family.

Since they were a white trash family, some people in their neighborhood would torment the children, especially the boy. Sometimes the older boys of the neighborhood would gang up on him and insult and downgrade the people that he loved. Even his older sister would torment him just like the neighborhood children did. The only people he loved and would fight to defend was his mother and his baby sister.

Well, on one dark and dreadful Halloween night, David decided that he had enough. He began to retaliate for all the abuse that he had endured. He began to punish those who had tortured him and the ones he loved by murdering them.

He started his murdering rampage with one of the neighborhood children. Then he continued by slaughtering his mother’s lowlife boyfriend. After that he had mercilessly beaten his older sister’s boyfriend to death.

Before that horrifying night was over, he had one more target. He went upstairs to his older sister’s bedroom and repeatedly stabbed her to death.

When it was all over, he was locked up in a mental institution for a very long time. Although, during the time that he was locked up, his mother couldn’t handle the fact that her son was a heartless cold-blooded murderer. She couldn’t live with that nor could she live with how her hometown had branded her for being the mother of Satan. It had driven her to the point where she had forgotten about her baby girl and took her own life.

Over the years, the little girl grew up with a new name and having no idea of who she really was so she could have a normal life. However, fate made sure that this normal life didn’t last. When she became seventeen, the brother she never knew had escaped from the hospital and came home. He began looking for his baby sister and would kill anyone that got in his way, even the people that she loved the most.

For a time after that she still had no idea what David was to her or what he wanted. At the time, David was presumed dead, so she tried to get on with her life, but had no success. The visions of David just kept haunting her every day and every night.

When she finally convinced herself to start believing that it was over, David came after her again. That is when she finally found out who she really was and her real name. She had also found out about her true roots because of David’s selfish money grubbing doctor.

After finally learning the truth about herself and David’s second attack on her, she lost what was left of her mind because it was more than what she could handle. At least that is what everyone including herself had thought. They had locked her up just like they did her brother and like David she too will escape.

When she returns to Shannonville, she will have her own reasons. The name she was given when she was born was Danielle Graves and David always called her boo. However, the name she was given to keep her hidden and the name that Shannonville knows her as is Paige Compton. Since she now knows that inside her own mind that she is two people, after she escapes she will learn and discover for herself which one she will truly be.

That girl who is both Danielle Graves and Paige Compton is me."

    Chapter One

    The Aftermath

This story begins at the moment the paramedics are taking Paige away in an ambulance.

Sheriff Corothers is watching as the paramedics are loading Paige up in the ambulance. He has an extremely concerned look on his face hoping that Paige will be ok. Corothers knows that after David’s second attack on Paige has destroyed her mind. Since she never recovered from his first attack.

Corothers knows that he has to put Paige into a mental hospital now. The look on his face reveals how worried he is about this beautiful young woman.

Just as the ambulance is pulling away with its lights flashing and siren going off, Corothers’s deputy Rick Garrett runs up to him with very good news that Corothers feels is a miracle. Having great happiness in his face and excitement in his voice, Garrett says, Sheriff, sheriff, you’re not going to believe this.

Having gotten Corothers attention diverted from his concentrated concerns about Paige, Corothers responds, What is it Rick? What’s going on?

Knowing that Corothers will be extremely relieved and excited about his news, Garrett just says it straight out without hesitation. Donald, Ellie is alive!

In a state of momentary shock, Corothers stops moving, breathing, and his eyes open extremely wide. Trying to force himself to speak, the only words he can get out of his mouth are, What? What did you say?

Having a large smile on his face being happy for Corothers, Garrett says, the doctor that showed up at your house noticed that Ellie still had a pulse and her heart is still beating. They are rushing her to the hospital right now. She lost a lot of blood, but the doc said she is going to make it.

Uncertain how to react to this news with so many thoughts and emotions racing through his mind, Corothers looks at Garrett and says, Are you sure Rick? Don’t be playing with me.

Knowing its very hard for Corothers to accept it so fast Garrett says, I’m not playing with you Donald, Ellie’s alive!

A sign of happiness, excitement, and relief comes across Corothers’s face hearing that his daughter will live.

As his face lights up with the news, he looks at Garrett and says, I want to get to the hospital Rick. I want to see her when she opens her eyes.

Very happy for Corothers, Garrett replies, go ahead Donald, get to the hospital. I’ll take care of all this. When she wakes up, give Ellie a kiss for me.

Corothers replies, Thanks Rick, I will.

Corothers gets into his patrol car and drives off to the hospital.

Garrett walks over and stands in front of David’s body as the paramedics are loading him onto a stretcher. As they pick up the stretcher and load it into the ambulance, Garrett looks at the driver and says, I want to be sure that we don’t lose the body this time, so I’m going to have a couple of my men follow you all the way to the hospital.

The driver shrugs his shoulders at what Garrett just said and asks, Do you really think Graves is going to get up and walk away? The man is dead. He only has about two hundred bullets in him.

Angered by the drivers response, in a firm, aggravated voice, Garrett says, that son of a bitch got up and walked away before after getting a bullet in the head at point blank range. We are not taking any chances this time. There will be one car in front of you and one behind you. Both of them will be no more than fifty feet from you. Now, get moving!

The driver sees that Garrett is very serious and not to be questioned, so he climbs into the drivers seat and starts up the ambulance. The drivers partner has a curious look on his face after what Garrett had just said to the driver. Wondering what Garrett meant, the partner goes over to Garrett and asks, Deputy, what did you mean that he was shot in the head and got up and walked away?

In an irritated state by the partners question, Garrett replies, Just get that pile of shit out of here!

Being a little intimidated by Garrett’s response the partner walks over to the passengers door, opens it and gets into the ambulance.

The ambulance starts up and drives off with the two cop cars escorting it.

Meanwhile, Corothers drives up to the hospital, gets out of his car, and runs into the emergency room. Waiting at the admission’s desk for him is an old friend and psychiatrist by the name of Dr. Rachel Hunt. Dr. Hunt and Sheriff Corothers have been friends since they were teenagers.

After Corothers sees that Dr. Hunt is there and knowing that she is going to take care of Ellie and Paige, that puts a relaxed and relieved look on his face.

Dr. Hunt goes over and gives Corothers a huge hug comforting him as well as pleased to see him. After the embrace breaks, Dr. Hunt begins the conversation with a smile on her face by saying, It’s ok Donald, Ellie is alive and she is going to be fine.

Having great concern, Corothers responds, What about Paige?

Dr. Hunt loses her smile as she is about to answer his question. She takes a moment, then replies, Well, both the girls are going to live, but they have suffered severe mental trauma over all this.

Reluctant to ask, but he knows he has to anyway, in a sad voice, Corothers asks, Do you mean you will have to commit them for a while?

Knowing that there is no way to break the news easily, Dr. Hunt just tells him straight out.

With both the girls surviving this psycho killer twice, it caused them both to have a complete break from reality.

Corothers responds, Rachel, tell me what you mean by that?

Dr. Hunt is unsure of how to explain it to him, so she tells him in a delicate way. Paige was hysterical thinking she was seeing people who weren’t there. She has it in her mind that her mother and a young David is there with her and telling her what to do. Dr. Hunt pauses, then continues She is so detached from reality and a danger to herself and possibly others, that we had to put her in a straight jacket and heavily sedate her.

Dr. Hunt can see the look on Corothers’s face that he is very angry and sad at the same time. Knowing Dr. Hunt personally, he thinks that she might be exaggerating a little about Paige’s condition. Therefore, in a straight voice, Corothers asks, Why do you think Paige is a danger?

Dr. Hunt replies, When I had three of my nurses try to give Paige a sedative just so they could examine her, she violently attacked them. As if she was trying to kill them. Dr. Hunt pauses then continues. She went through them like they weren’t even there. It took five of my orderlies to hold her down while the sedative took effect.

Corothers isn’t very happy about it, but he knows it was for Paige’s own good. However, he is also worried about his daughter, so he changes the conversation over to Ellie. What about Ellie? You said that she had a mental breakdown too.

Dr. Hunt replies, Yes, she did too. Not as bad as Paige’s but still bad enough.

Corothers replies, She is unconscious isn’t she? So, how do you know that?

Having a smile on her face, she tells Corothers, Ellie came to about a half hour ago. Now, losing her smiles she explains Ellie’s mental condition puts a look of sadness on her face and concern in her voice. Ellie thinks David is still trying to kill her. She kept saying over and over, David please don’t hurt me. I couldn’t make her understand that David isn’t here and she is safe. Her whole body kept shaking, her lips were trembling a mile a minute. Therefore, I sedated her too.

Even though he is angry and depressed at the same time, but very grateful that they are alive, Corothers says, I want to see them right now!

Dr. Hunt is grateful that Corothers is very worried about both the girls. However, she doesn’t understand why his worries of Paige are equal to his worries of Ellie. Therefore, being very curious of this and before she allows him to see the girls, Dr. Hunt asks, Ellie is your daughter, so I understand your concerns there but why are you just as concerned about Paige? Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad you are, but why as much?

Corothers takes a minute trying to decide whether he should answer her question or not. Then he replies, After I see the girls, we will go somewhere private and I’ll answer your question. Only if you give me your word that you don’t repeat anything I tell you to anyone. Understood!

Dr. Hunt nods her head as if agreeing to his condition. Then she takes him through the hospital to the girls rooms.

As Corothers walks through the hospital, we see the ambulance driving down the road with the two cop cars escorting it. One cop car is about twenty feet in front of the ambulance and the other is about twenty feet behind it. They are all driving down a dark two lane road about three or so miles from the shack standoff site. A conversation begins with the two cops that are leading the three vehicle chain. Cop one begins the conversation by saying I can’t believe Garrett is having us babysit a dead body on its way to the morgue.

Cop two replies, Well, you know Garrett, always paranoid and an asshole. Cop two pauses with a giggle, then says, Maybe Garrett thinks this guy is supernatural. He will get up and walk away after being used for a two hundred bullet target practice session.

Cop one starts to laugh and says, Yeah, I think Garrett has watched to many horror movies.

Being curious to who the dead body is, cop two asks, Who was this guy anyway?

Being distracted from the road ahead of him by his question, cop one replies, Well, they said his name was David Graves. You know, that serial killer who escaped from the mental hospital a few years ago.

Having got his attention by that statement, cop two asks, Didn’t they say on the news tonight that he was after that girl, what was her name? Paige Compton?

Cop one replies, Yeah, they said that she was his sister and her real name is Danielle Graves.

Cop two asks, Why do you think he was after her and what for?

Cop one replies, Your guess is as god as anybody else.

Being distracted from the road by their conversation, cop one is not aware that he is about to hit a deer. Cop two looks up and yells, Hit the brakes, a deer! Unfortunately the warning was too late. The driver looks ahead but can’t stop in time. He hits the deer with such force, the deer is splattered everywhere and the front of his car is completely destroyed. Simultaneously all three vehicles collide into each other. All the vehicles are destroyed and all the people are dead. All of a sudden a small fire bursts out from under one of the vehicles. Within a few seconds, all three vehicles go up in a massive amount of flames. The flames are blazing and can be seen for miles around.

While Garrett is still at the shack site, one of his men comes up to him and says, I just got a call over the radio. Some woman just said that there is a huge fire about three miles up the road. Apparently is was some kind of car crash.

Garrett has a very worried look on his face and concern in his voice when he orders his men over his radio. All mobile units proceed immediately three miles down Old Pleasance Road. Garrett climbs into his patrol car and drives to the new location. Within a few seconds every cop and patrol car are flying down the road.

Meanwhile back at the Shannonville Memorial Hospital, Corothers opens the door to the girls recovery room with Dr. Hunt behind him and goes into see them. He sees Paige in her bed unconscious wearing the straight jacket that Dr. Hunt had mentioned. Then he looks over and sees Ellie barely awake as if she is struggling to regain consciousness. He walks over and bends down to give Ellie a kiss on her forehead. Being so relieved that she is alive but sad of her current condition, he begins to cry. Then he takes his hand and starts caressing her hair while trying to talk to her. Ellie, can you hear me? Honey, can you understand me? Since Ellie is so drugged and not totally coherent, all she can do is nod her head yes. Even though Ellie isn’t coherent enough yet, Corothers talks to her anyway. Honey, I thought I lost you. If I lost you or Paige, I wouldn’t want to go on living. The two of you are my reasons for staying alive. I need you to get better. I need you to come back to me. Do you understand? Ellie nods her head yes again, then drifts off into a deep, drugged sleep. Corothers stands up, leans over, and gives Ellie another kiss, then says, Sweet dreams honey, I’ll be here when you wake up. Then Corothers stands up and walks over to Paige’s bed. He is so angry seeing her in a straight jacket that his face turns into a look of rage. He raises his hand to her hair and starts caressing it too. Then realizing that the jacket is for her own good right now, the raged look on his face turns into one of pity and sorrow. He stops feeling her silky blonde hair and leans down to kiss her on the forehead. Corothers sees that she is unconscious but also sees that she is twitching in her sleep. He knows that she can’t hear him or even knows that he is there. However, that doesn’t prevent him from talking to her anyway. Paige, Paige baby, are you ok? I’m so sorry that this had happened to you and Ellie. Maybe if I would have hid you better or at least told you and Ellie the truth, and definitely not have told that bastard Curtis about you, then maybe none of this would have happened. Corothers pauses, then continues in a protective voice, There is one thing that I will promise you baby, I will keep you safe from now on and make sure that nothing like this ever happens to you and Ellie ever again. Corothers reaches over and kisses her again unaware that Paige is somewhat conscious and is listening to what he had just told her. He is also unaware that she is somewhat listening to the conversation that he is about to have with Dr. Hunt.

Dr. Hunt is very curious now as to what Corothers had just said to Paige. This adds to her curiosity of wanting to know why Corothers is just as worried about Paige as he is Ellie. Dr. Hunt remembered what Corothers had told her at the admissions desk. We will go somewhere alone and I’ll tell you everything. Thinking that there couldn’t be a better place or time than where they are right now, Dr. Hunt looks at Corothers and says, Even though the girls are here, they are out of it. So why don’t you answer my question?

Corothers looks at the girls, then back at Dr. Hunt and replies, Well, I’ll tell you but you have to keep it a secret. Especially from that dam pig Curtis.

Dr. Hunt knows what he meant by that. She knows that Curtis would try to exploit anyone he can just so he could write another money, greedy book. Therefore, Hunt gives Corothers her word, and he knows that he can trust her, that she won’t tell anyone anything that he tells her.

He tells Dr. Hunt in a quiet voice, but not quiet enough because what he doesn’t know is that Paige is listening too. Corothers says, You know Ellie is my daughter. Corothers pauses and takes a deep breath, then continues. What you don’t know nor does anyone else, is that Paige is my daughter too.

Having a very stunned look on her face and not sure how to react to this information, Dr. Hunt looks at Corothers and the only word that she can say is, What?

Seeing that Dr. Hunt is at a loss for words from this bombshell, Corothers replies, Paige is my daughter. We had good reasons for keeping it a secret. Mainly it was to protect both of the girls that are laying here now.

Dr. Hunt is a little shocked and dismayed over this news. However, she does want to know what this is all about. "Who is we? And what do you mean by protecting them?’

Corothers walks over to the door and says, Let’s get out of here and I’ll tell you everything.

Dr. Hunt follows him out of the room then closes the door behind them.

After hearing that short conversation between Corothers and Hunt, being too much for her to mentally handle, Paige falls into a complete mental catatonic state. She then falls into a deep telepathic sleep. A few minutes later, Paige is dreaming about two couples who are camping out in the woods and about herself being there too. We see the four campers sitting around a fire in front of their tents. They are sitting there talking, laughing, and having a good time. Paige is hiding within the trees about thirty feet from them watching their every move. The four campers are two men, one who is about five foot four with blonde hair and an average build. His name is Brady. The other is about five foot five with a better than average build and his name is Kenny. The two women are their girlfriends. Brady’s girl is the blonde with shoulder length hair, small to average build, about five foot two and her name is Joana. Kenny’s girl is about five foot three, above the shoulder dark hair, a small build, and her name is April. Everyone is having a good time sitting around the fire. Brady is throwing a couple of pieces of wood onto the fire because it is a very cold night. Kenny stands up and says, I got to go take a leak, I’ll be right back. He picks up his bag and heads over to the woods to take care of his personal business.

Before he goes, April says, It’s cold, if you want some, hurry back.

Kenny replies, I do want some. I’ll warm you up. I’ll be back in a couple of minutes.

Brady jumps in and says, Remember, shake it more than twice, you’re playing with it.

Joanna starts laughing at that remark, then defends Kenny. Hey, it’s his, he can do whatever he wants with it.

Just as Kenny walks away, April says, No it’s not, it’s mine, and I’m the one who is going to play with it.

They all start laughing at all their comments. After they stop, Brady starts telling the girls about a serial killer from town by the name of David Graves. It all started about twenty two years ago. A boy that lived in town and his name was David Graves. The town residence say that he was evil. others say he was just insane. No one really knows what drove him to murder. He could have been just pushed over the edge by people who tormented him or he could have been an evil force inside a human body. No one knows his reasons. All that people do know is that he murdered close to twenty people trying to get to a girl in town named Paige Compton. What no one knew till recently is that Paige Compton is his baby sister Danielle Graves. The girls attention are glued onto Brady’s story and unaware that Kenny is coming up behind them wearing David’s orange skull mask with black hood around it and black covered eyes and mechanics body suit and carrying a large butcher knife. Brady sees Kenny and continues his story to scare the girls. Paige had survived David’s repeated attacks. She had shot him in the head and everyone thought he was dead. When the cops were moving his body, David disappeared. No one has seen him since. Legend has it that David has been living here in the woods ever since. Hiding, watching, and stalking anyone who dares to come out here. Waiting to start up his murder spree again. At that moment, Kenny jumps out from behind the girls, growling, moaning and yelling to scare the girls out of their skin. The girls jump up, April begins to run while Joana tackles Brady in fear for him to protect her. Brady starts laughing and April stops running to turn around and see what’s going on. Kenny drops the knife and takes the mask off laughing too.

Extremely angered and frightened by their little joke, April yells, You asshole, that wasn’t funny!

Joana, in a frightened voice adds, You jerk, it’s a good thing I have good bladder control otherwise I would have pissed myself.

In order to give the girls a reason, Kenny states, I just wanted to see how fast you could move if you really had to.

Brady decides to calm the girls down by finishing his story. "Ok, now that Kenny has had his fun, lets forget all about it. It is ancient history. David’s dead and from what I understand, Paige is under mental care, and the town wants to forget that it had ever happened.

Brady reaches over and puts his arms around Joana and says, you want to go for a walk? Help me round up some sticks to burn. I’m sure these two want to get laid.

Joana replies, Ok, let’s go. Joana looks at April and says, We will give you guys a half an hour, don’t waste it.

April looks at Kenny then back at Joana and Brady and says, Kenny wants to get laid, so after that little prank I’m going to put him to work. Then she pauses and says, Joana, why don’t you take your sleeping bag so you guys can have a little fun yourselves?

Joana smiles, nods, then reaches for her sleeping bag. While she is grabbing it, Kenny looks at Brady and says, You guys have fun. Make her moan man.

Brady smiles then replies, You too. Make April howl at the moon.

Brady and Joana walk off into the woods while Kenny and April go into their tent. Kenny is kissing and feeling April while she is getting naked. As Kenny and April are kicking around getting their clothes off, Brady and Joana are laying their sleeping bag out underneath a tree about twenty feet away. They are unaware that Paige is watching them no more than about ten feet away.

While Joana is getting naked, she looks at Brady with a little fear in her eyes and says, I’m on the pill, but do you have a condom?

Brady replies, Yeah, it’s in my pocket.

Being a little nervous and scared, Joana says, Go easy ok. Remember, this is my first time.

In order to comfort her, Brady replies, I know that’s why I wanted to make it special for you. That’s why I brought you out here, to make love to you under the stars. I want to make your first time something that you will never forget.

Brady and Joana have no idea how true that is about to be for both of them. They both climb into the sleeping bag, then Brady gets on top of Joana. Paige is watching them as they are starting to get it on. She looks down on the ground and picks up a
