    Rott - Anthony Stokes

    Chapter I

    Out of Eden

C reatures of the deepest parts of the ocean are lurking to devour without any moment’s notice. What’s really out there? Has everything been discovered as of yet? Attacks of wild beasts that can kill in an instant. It seems discoveries are made daily. Could there really be King Kongs, Godzillas and/or Jaws out there? The world is an amazing place, but if we are to rule the animal kingdom, why are we so afraid of certain environments? We are afraid to go to certain locations. I believe that we brought it on ourselves, or was it Adam and Eve? We are murdered, mauled, and everything else by ferocious beasts.

The Lord works in mysterious ways to get truth out of man.

I’ll tell you…I have witnessed something in a chapter of my life that was devastatingly malignant.

Due to our sinful nature, we fall short in our comings and goings to do right, and it seems that when we fall, we get back up, but often tragedies strike us to get us back on track. Just think about it.Think about the past wars, slavery, violence in communities, civilizations of the past, and greed and on and on…We, as humans, have made vital mistakes that bring us down, but too often, we fall real hard to see the mistakes that we have made before we are rectified. Too often, we let down our guards and at times have an evil notion that needs to be reaped, but thank God that all storms don’t last forever.

    Chapter II

    Me but Mainly Ye Men

A s mentioned earlier, I have witnessed some tragic things that have happened in my life where I live up here in the Appalachian Mountains. I’m just a man in the street about forty who is black with dreadlocks and a janitor who lives in a cabin or cabin shack, all alone deep in the mountains here, but let me start from the beginning. The incident didn’t start here in the mountains; it started thousands of miles away in the Middle East.

It started with these two scientists. I’ll refer to them as Scientist No. 1 and Scientist No. 2. Initially, they didn’t know each other. They met in the later years of their lives.

Let’s start with Scientist No. 2. He was born in Yemen in 1990. He was from a wealthy family. His parents valued education very much. They raised him to be a polite, respectful, and responsible person. Most important was the fact that he was very educated, and by the time he finished his secondary schooling, he had high honors and marks in science and math. He knew a lot of stuff, and his parents wanted him to further his education in the United States. He applied to select colleges and universities and not to his or his parents’ surprise, he was accepted to them all with full scholarships. This kid was remarkable. He narrows his selection down to just to one school and decided to attend the Institution of Ky-Smith (IK).

Now when No. 2 entered and started his education at IK, he was like a superstar. Those of authority—the directors, the professors, the doctors, and even the instructors—marveled at No. 2’s artisanship in the sciences and as well as his math skills. It was like he was recruited to be a star athlete or something. He was very brilliant, and two of the top instructors wanted him to be part of their team of education and really wanted to befriend him because he probably had a bit more knowledge than they had in the area of science and plus he could be a minion to them. These two professors at times argued with each other because they knew that he was rare—one in a million. They were almost literally tugging on him on both arms trying to get him on their sides. No. 2 loved this and knew that his time had arrived. The administration at the institute made him feel very welcome to America, and he felt like a king…until he stepped out of the laboratory unto campus.

Being from Yemen, No. 2 did appear a bit different than most of the other kids at IK. He was from a different culture and seemed odd with his Middle Eastern accent and apparel. IK is a tough institute to get into and the classes were as well. It was a breeze for No. 2 though. He was just gifted and had been blessed with an excellent education back home. IK was predominantly a race of Caucasians and whites as well blacks and did not care too much for him for a number of reasons: his religion, his dress, his color, but the most important reason why most of the student body disliked him was because he was so gifted. Jealousy filled the air.

The authorities granted No. 2 with much praise and privileges that none of the other students got, and a lot of students didn’t like it. No. 2 tried to fit in, but he was just detested. He was called all kinds of names and graffiti was located at various locations throughout the institute that slandered him. A lot of backbiting was occurring, and he was looked at as a spectacle. His food was tampered with; he was pushed around often and messed with mentally and physically.

One of the worst things that happened to him was when he got beat up by some of the members of the basketball and football teams. You see, this school was very well known for its academics as well as its sports program. It was in a conference with some of the best teams in the country: The BLC (Best League Conference).

Being an outcast, he was drinking by himself one Saturday night and was walking throughout the campus and then harassed verbally by some of the students in physics who were just hanging out, and he walked away feeling very vexed, dazed, and perplexed…He was becoming a nervous wreck. So he walked around some more and came to a group of athletes who were drinking and just hanging out side of one of the frat houses. No. 1 just set there looking at them asking himself why some people of color get accepted but not him. He just stood outside the party sipping his drink, buzzing pretty hard, and one of the black athletes noticed him and said, Say, Aladdin, find your own business back in the lamp you came out of. Everyone laughed really loud and hard.

No. 2 slightly beyond drunk and extremely angry looked at him and replied, Why do you look at me for who I am but hate to look at yourselves for the niggers you really are? No. 2 was jumped and beaten up pretty bad. The athletes were already angry because they had just gotten trounced by one of their rivals in a football game and plus new news arrived that their basketball team who normally is ranked in the top 10 in basketball were not even in the top 25 preseason rankings, so No. 2 just added fuel to the fire. He was beaten pretty bad and knocked unconscious. This scared the athletes, so they put him in a room at the frat house, not wanting anyone to know about the incident.

The next morning was a beautiful early fall Sunday morning. Some students were going to church. Some were just lounging; others were walking about the beautiful campus just enjoying the day. Some were even hungover.

Back at the frat house where No. 2 got beat up, he was still sleeping peacefully until one of the football defensive linemen could sense that he was going to be all right. What the lineman did was throw ice water in his face, grab No. 2 by the neck, and toss him onto the floor. The defensive lineman called the other athletes who were still around to let them know that he was OK. They warned No. 2 that if he told anyone what happened, his days on the campus as well as the United States would be more hell than he had previously experienced. You see, some of these students were on scholarships and very popular on campus. The community absolutely loved them. No. 2 got the message, so he limped away muzzled, and as he initially started leaving, the quarterback told him that if anyone asked about the scrapes and bruises, just tell them he was downtown hanging out and was in a bike accident trying to ride a motorcycle. No. 2 just left, filled with hate.

Take the time to reflect on the mass killings and plotted killings at all of the learning institutes around the nation due to individuals feeling mistreated or bullied. All of these people committed murders on school campuses. Massive Murders. What was going on in their minds? How were they treated? People must watch how they treat individuals because treating individuals wrong will be reaped rather we like it or not, and it can happen at any time without any kind of notification. They need help, and No. 2 will be approached by some, but will he accept it?

That evening while sitting in The Garden—a park-type area just to relax filled with vegetation at IK—No. 2 was attacked spiritually and mentally and thoughts of murder were going through his mine. He was thinking of plotting a way that he could get even. Hate was going through his thoughts in a massive rampage. He then let out a big sigh of disgust.

As he did so, a counselor who is a Christian heard him, and his heart became heavy when he heard No. 2’s sullen notion. He walked into The Garden and saw the morose countenance on No. 2’s face. He asked No. 2 what was troubling him, but No. 2 told him to leave. The counselor tried to comfort him and started to talk him about the goodness of Jesus Christ, but No. 2 didn’t want to have anything to do with him and yelled out one final time in an ominous loud tone for the counselor to leave.
