    Divorce

You live on a beautiful island,

                                Surrounded by love and beauty.

                                Suddenly,

                                You are banished.

                                You cross a wooden bridge

                                To the mainland,

The only bridge to the island.

The mainland is full of strangers,

                                Judgmental and critical.

                                You turn around and see

                                That the bridge is burning.

Life Is A Mystery To Me

Life is a mystery to me.

                              People searching,

                              Searching eternally.

                              Seeking out the answers,

                              Looking for the questions.

Which ones are the right ones for me?

    Interior Design

                                  It’s your world.

                                  You create it.

                                  Imagination becomes reality.

                                  From nothing comes something.

                                  Colors dark and bright,

                                  Lighting for the night,

                                  Textures hard and soft.

                                  Wood. Metal. Paint. Fabric.

                                  It’s your world.

                                  You live in it.

                                  Own it.

    Absence

Some say that absence makes you fonder.

I say it causes eyes to wander.

    Haiku Haiku

                                      Four or five of them.

                                      Then seven more syllables.

                                      Then five more of them.

    The Internet

                                  It’s called the internet.

It’s called the web world wide.

                                  In case you do forget,

                                  Man’s knowledge at your side.

                                  Info rides the silent air,

And streams in rays of light.

                                  It’s like a big world’s fair,

All day and all the night.

You buy and sell and talk,

And read and write and view.

                                  Tread lightly where you walk,

                                  Be careful what you do.

                                  You don’t know who’s watching.

                                  Be careful what you say.

                                  All can see your botching,

                                  Forever and a day.

                                  It brings us together.

                                  It tears us far apart.

                                  Beware of human nature,

                                  The evil in our hearts.

    Cars

                      Majestic moveable monuments,

                      Of proud American steel.

                      Gas guzzling behemoths.

                      Road cruisers.

                      Highway boats.

Oh, you cars of the 50’s and 60’s,

                      I remember you.

I recall the awe and the wonder.

                      Each September would bring

                      A new school year,

                      New clothes for school,

                      A new TV season,

But I looked forward for different reasons.

                      For in car dealerships,

                      Soon would appear,

                      The polished new models

                      Of a new model year.

                      School was okay,

                      And clothes were all right,

                      But oh, those new cars…

                      What a beautiful sight.

                      When I was five,

I stood out in the yard.

A man came along and we talked about cars.

                      He asked me,

What’s this one, and that one, and that?

                      I had all the answers.

                      I had them down pat.

He looked at me with marvel and awe.

Something was going on in his craw.

                      My mom came outside,

                      And I started to fidget.

He said, Ma’am, he’s either a genius or midget!

When I was fifteen an ad on TV

Spoke of the Auto Show in New York City.

I asked my father, and we both went.
