About this ebook

As one of the emerging poets in the Philippine literary scene, Jubert Cabrezos gives us a whole new poetic view of the scientific world. In his simple yet lyrical free verse form, he takes us to a world of black holes, stars, Darwinian arms races, dinosaurs, multiverses, aliens, and poetry of a scientific view of the world, following the tradition of the great Roman poet Lucretius. In this bilingual edition with the original Tagalog text and parallel English translation by the author himself, the poet makes the most talked-about scientific concepts accessible to virtually all Filipinos in different walks of life.

    About The Author

    INTRODUKSYON

    INTRODUCTION

For a most Filipinos, science is just a nuance school subject that needs to be passed. The learning experience often results in rote memorization of names and dates that does not represent the very essence of science. We ought to understand the importance of science in discovering the world. It is quite disturbing that this is not what is happening.

Because science is a bit technical in nature, some people thought that this is only for scientific experts. They thought that science needs understanding of hardcore mathematics and complicated formulas to grasp it. But actually, science is just like the arts—music, literature, theatre, etc.—the fruit of science is really for all.

This is what this work proves to us through a poem that gives us the beauty, power, and meaning of nature through the eyes of science. The poet-author made use of the rhythm of language to explain science.

A lot of us thought that a scientific view of nature distorts its beauty. Actually, it gives us the opposite. In the words of the American physicist Richard Feynman, "It does not distort it, but

rather makes it even clearer"; it does not cut the sense of wonder, in fact, it makes it more wonderful.

Every verse in this work shows us the grand history of our world from its birth to its impending death, and rebirth. This work presents the fruits of science and the discoveries of men who never stop asking questions.
