CHAPTER ONE
The Romance
Lyle was just 16 and his first girl friend was 15. The magic of the first love seemed so deep and lasting. Were they the young lovers in the castle which our fairy tale speaks? They never thought it would ever end!
Enjoy sex? No, Lyle did not take advantage of this romantic situation. His going to church with his parents when he was very young developed in him the love for God and respect for life. Maybe the silent stolen kisses and the holding hands in the dark made a tiny spark inside them was this a puppy love
!
Many say, it’s like an arrow when you are between 5 and 10. But it could not be as they were teens. And young love is a pretty flame, so hot and fierce, but still only light and flickering! The love of the first girl friend faded. Lyle’s love too faded but his vision for a bright future is much stronger, they parted ways without hurt feelings.
Lyle met his second girl friend after high school. He was 19 and the girl was 18. He claimed that he had fallen with a love, much deeper than the first. He had graduated high school and found a job.
He met this beautiful woman, Luz, dramatically in a grocery store, one Saturday morning, She was picking up a bottle of coffee that accidentally slipped from her fingers. It fell on the floor. It broke!
Then came Lyle, like a knight in a shining armor!
May I help you?
Extending his right hand. That was an accident, I suppose.
I am Lyle May I know your name?
Lyle said with a gentlemanly bow.
Hesitant and somewhat quivering, she accepted the friendly gesture. I’m Luz.
Their eyes met and both of them knew something deep inside was lighted.
You can tell the teller that it was an accident. They have an insurance for this. If you don’t mind, I will accompany you there,
was Lyle’s gentle offer.
Fantasized by the way he looked into her eyes, Luz could not say anything…speechless! A slight tremor went into her hands. They were cold. She couldn’t help saying to herself silently, Gee, he is so nice, so handsome!
There was a hidden attraction that started to build up in her being.
Are you finished shopping? Lyle asked to break the dead air.
Can I take you to your car?"
I just live a few blocks away, but you may keep me company. I walk home.
I was looking for something, but I will come back later after I have accompanied you home.
And the two newly-acquainted friends walked together towards Luz’ apartment.
I live upstairs with my room mate, Nancy. She’s much older than me. She has a boy friend. She’s working the second shift in that factory down the street.
Luz said pointing at the direction where Nancy worked. I worked there too on the first shift from Monday to Friday.
It was just fifty meters away from Lyle place.
Do you mind if I tell you something?
Lyle asked.
Looking at Lyle’s eyes, Luz eagerly replied. "What is it?
Don’t you know you have pretty brown eyes?
They stopped for a while and they both looked into each other’s eyes.
Your eyes are brown, too!
Luz answered smiling. They are very pretty!
It’s not only your eyes,
Lyle now holding Luz’ shoulders and looking deep into her eyes. It’s your whole being.
Luz could not hold that magnetic gaze.
She only looked shyly down and simply said, Thank you.
Their romance blossomed like a rose bud that suddenly spread up its petals as the sun shone everywhere, which can be seen, freely spread out in a few minutes, meeting the warm rays.
Both of them felt they were on the top of the world…with the love they
