About this ebook
Miss Gomez’s Mighty Pen Writing Club
About the Authors: The Might Pen Writing Club was started this year by eight 5th-6th grade students at a public school in Anaheim, California. This after school writing club enhanced their writing skills over the course of three months. They worked on everything they could think of: poetry, figurative language, mixed genres, The 6 Traits of Writing, revision strategies, mimicking author's craft, and much more. Their big project for the year was writing a publishing a book. As a team, they determined the elements of the original story, Peace of Power. The Mighty Pen Writing Club hopes to publish a book each academic school year; it's a tradition they hope lives on forever. About Miss Kaylie M. Gomez: Miss Kaylie M. Gomez has taught in California public schools for the past 6 years. As a passionate writer and educator, Gomez has tried to make writing a unique experience for her students each year. This will be the 5th book Gomez publishes with her students. Gomez works with the University of California Irvine Writing Project and is an adjunct faculty member at Concordia University Irvine. Additionally, she is currently obtaining her Doctor of Education (Ed.D) and plans to graduate May 2018.

Chapter 1: The Mighty Pen Writing Club
Opportunity had knocked on the door of room 35. It was a gloomy day, yet the students’ futures looked brighter than ever before. As the sun played hide and seek with the clouds up above them, 9 special writers bounced mighty words off their pens.
They wrote furiously.
