    I Just Got Saved . . . Now What? - Rob Kimble

    Day 1

Proverbs 3:5, 6 - Trust in the LORD

with all thine heart; and lean not unto

    thine own understanding.

In all thy ways acknowledge Him,

and He shall direct thy paths.

I START THIS journey with you with the verses above because they have collectively become my life verse. A life verse is a scripture that is very personal to your own walk with God and seems to have been written specifically for you. Proverbs 3:5, 6 are the very definition of a life verse for me.

When I came back to God after nearly fifteen years of running and hiding from Him, I remember falling on my knees to the ground in complete capitulation. I was exhausted from my efforts of trying to deal with the sinful consequences of my life which seemed to have mushroomed out of control in every facet: business, personal, physical, mental, and social. It was a therapeutic moment for me as God liberated me from the obligation to solve the numerous and immense problems in my life. I had finally succumbed to the realization that I needed more than just His help … I needed Him!

Afterwards, I remember sitting on my bed with a Thomas Nelson NKJV Study Bible, which my father had purchased for me, and with a broken spirit I lifted my head up towards heaven saying, Okay, God, I’m going to read this Bible to truly hear what You have to say to me. I opened the Bible and read it anew. It was no longer a book of stories of great men and events of the past, nor was it a book of dos and don’ts, it was the Word of God written for my benefit and understanding. I was reading what God had been wanting me to know all these years.

    A NEW PHILOSOPHY

The verses above start off with, Trust in the Lord with all your heart; and lean not on your own understanding. The definition of trust which I came to understand is—faith in action. Trust is a verb which requires doing something. If we do not exercise our faith, we can lose it, like a dormant muscle (2 Timothy 4:7; James 2:17). In this verse we are called to put our unwavering and complete faith in God’s will for our well-being. That describes what I unwittingly did when I was on my knees. I surrendered all of my own will and abilities, and I sought God’s will and divine abilities for my life.

As with every occasion in which God’s heart is revealed to us, we see His mercy and grace promised to us along with His instruction. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. This is a promise from God that if we will submit to His will for our lives, He will direct our every step. I am enamored with that promise and the significance of what it means to me. His assurance to me that He will direct my decisions in life literally keeps me from fearing anything that life throws at me. I know that God is in control so long as I do not take the wheel back from Him. This vow from Almighty God, the Creator of the universe, is life-changing to those that yield to it. Will you choose now to yield to it?

Before you say that you have already accomplished this, notice the detail of the instruction—In all thy ways acknowledge Him. We are required to give God control over all of our lives. This means your work, your hobbies, your marriage, your finances, your time, your family and everything in between. You cannot withhold any area of your life and expect to fool God into pouring the fullness of His promised blessings into your life. Simply put, this tells us to surrender all to Him. We must acknowledge that God has a role in every part of our lives; even more, He has full control over it.

I hope you will pray upon these verses and ask God to take control over your life. Remember, it doesn’t require any skill on your part. All it takes is the decision and act of releasing the control and direction of your life to God (lean not on your own understanding). Yield yourself before our loving God, and let Him move you in the direction that He wants for your life. Ask God to help you trust in Him and to help you see His blessings along the way. Finally, remember to always acknowledge Him with prayers of
