The truth behind this crime truly exploded at the helm of his victory when he almost bagged the most coveted seat of governance. Who is behind these cases that seriously took the Governor in great scandal? Now that he is disqualified from the race days before the final proclamation of winners come a bigger question, will there be a chance for him to appeal to claim the honor and prestige he worked hard for? Today, the only witness alive has shown herself to prove the involvement of the Governor during inauguration day bombing. Will the victims truly achieve justice a decade after the bombing? A memory that will surely stain in the history of the country, the truth that unveils behind honour and credibility.

Today, we are privileged to speak with the woman who took courage to reveal the truth of the Inauguration Day bombing.

Good Morning, thank you very much for sharing your story with us. People have wanted to know, why only now? After a decade, you kept your silence, what made you decide to show up and tell us the truth behind the explosion?

    Ahhh… I don’t know.

How can some words fly and imprison a person through the meaning they convey? My mind is so trapped in the masquerade of the mysteries of the Inauguration Day bombing. I lost myself in the midst of trying to be a woman of honour. That day, when I become a blank sheet of a memoir, when the shores of life experienced a complete hallow of sorrow and death. It was when I lost the soul that lives inside my body, then that memory imploded and sank inside the pathway of own sanity. My story started at the wheel of the Inauguration Day of Governor Magsaysay. From then on, a mystery I travelled to for almost a decade…

    The Inauguration Day Bombing

1 July 2000 was the date of the political success of the Province of Sansimon. The son of every family, of every home, to lead its own governance. Many people celebrated his success and all of them came to join him in his celebration. It was a beautiful moment. The sun streaming in a beautiful blue sky that seemed to tell everyone that the gods were watching. The magic of nature that soothes the heat of the sun blended to the perfect recipe of this occasion. Every single preparation was made with so much excitement to inaugurate their leader. He was the person they welcomed into their families, the man they chose to believe could deliver positive change.

Just when everyone was ready, people started to come. The province’s stadium was ready to take care of 3,000 people waiting to see the person they looked up to. Excitement filled the stadium with people from the different walks of life. Their presence felt the sincerity of their most profound support.

People sang for joy. The melody of their music filled the moment with gaiety. Their faith with his leadership encouraged them to give so much for their leader. There were floats and street dancing that filled the day with so much festivity. The rhythm and beat of the drums made the atmosphere jubilant. It was truly jovial and everyone rejoiced to his victory. The charm he mastered caught the hearts of the people to follow. He managed to create a hero the people needed and waited for. The honour he had shown made them want to believe there was hope for a beautiful future. A new leadership could mean a new tradition. A new leader could mean a beginning we cannot control.

Change is an inevitable moment in time but a lesson we fail to realize that we are the change we all have been looking for. The destiny of our fate lies in the hands of other people, an irony we created for ourselves to live in the hope they want us live in.

The governor then arrived wearing simplicity and sincerity. He walked on the stage and greeted everyone who came just to be with him in his happiest achievement.

The event was attended by the members of the press giving up-to-date reports and news. They were transmitting words of happiness to every platform of communication available. Writers, radio personnel, and TV personalities came in to witness this historical day.

The celebration seemed to invite personalities from all over the province to cover the event. But one of them, covered the moment, every single detail of it from start to end. A woman, a news reporter, transcended that memory to every household to witness history in the making.

Congratulations, San Simon, and Congratulations, Governor Magsaysay. We are here in the Grand Stadium of the Province of San Simon to witness the oath taking of the newly elected Generoso Magsaysay. Everybody here in the stadium is ready to witness the governor’s oath. Everything is perfect and—wait. The people are cheering. Here we go to Governor Generoso Magsaysay on the stage right now. Oh, that’s why we love the governor; he always comes with a surprise. And look. The program has started and they are now calling the governor to take his oath. There you have Justice Malou Dela Cerna to assist him.

The Honourable Dela Cerna then started the oath taking. Raise your right hand and repeat after me.

Governor Magsaysay, a person of words and promises, then said his promise in front of the people. The conviction he imposed dwelled inside the hearts of the people. I, Genero Magsaysay, promise to serve the people of San Simon to the best of my ability. I promise to uphold good governance and honest leadership, to help my people prosper, and to …

Words with him became dramatic. That was his own way of complying with what the people wanted to hear. It is when the people thought they got the chance to achieve beautiful governance comes a great surprise that maligns dreams from its opportunity to be real.

A violent detonation took the attention of the people. It was so loud that people could no longer think of what to do. A hiss of an explosion terrorized the silence of the cheering crowd. It was resoundingly maligning; the blast of explosion hid death from the fears of the people. The place of the inauguration day, the place where it was believed to be safe. Then the left wing of the stadium imploded and people sank with it. Chaos started to fill the whole celebration. People panicked and ran indifferent directions.

The TV reporter then shouted, Oh my God! There is an explosion on the left wing of the stadium! Everybody has gone wild now. Everyone is running. Wait! The gates are closed. No one can go out. We need help here. Help us! The people are in great panic. Just right after the last word of the governor, an explosion commenced and the people are panicking.

Fear reached every person watching the news live at their home and office space. Everybody, the people of the news and the people who listened to the freshness of its essence. The telecast was left open. Every eye that could see and every ear that could hear knew what exactly had happened inside.

An explosion, an incident that connoted overwhelming anger of pain. The people of San Simon experienced the most devastating inauguration day in history. A bomb exploded and the people were locked inside. It was a resounding blast that created fear among the fleet of innocent individuals.

That beautiful day turned into a dreadful disaster that took so many lives. The first day of his service was covered with filth and death. There were children watching and mothers hoping to take their young ones to be a part of history. Helpless people now screamed for mercy and help. Their voices, the only canvass of emotion that can reach to the hearts of the people to help devoured too much pain they feel at the situation. They ran down and up, but fire caught their skin and burned them alive. They tried to save their lives, but falling debris hit their heads and knocked them down. Hundreds—thousands—of people died, and thousands of innocents were injured. People pushed their way just to go out but they killed each other.

Just one explosion and so many lives were wasted. People suffered and dreams flew like feathers in the wind. The day that everyone thought would begin a bright future had turned into a nightmare.

Their steps stepped other people’s steps that caused the moment to a merciful stampede. The viewers could hear their pain, and every single moment they watched felt like a stab in their hearts. They cried over to the torture they witnessed. Their voice, the only chance to plea for help, reached through to the channel of communication that transcended through the timeless rescue of sympathy. They cry for help, but help has left without any trace of response. They perished inside a place with so many people but seemed to be noticed by nobody. It was fear that killed them. Fear not to see their loved ones alive and fear not to live for their loved ones.

The gates are locked. We cannot go out. We are going to die. Please help my children! Please save them! These were the painful words of one of the mothers crying inside the stadium asking help for her children to be alive.

Songs became howls, dance became death, and festivities became a dreadful stampede. Death had been so alive. It slowly took the breath of the weak and helpless. Now that lives had been spent, counts more responsibilities he needs to face as he will begin his leadership.

Governor Gene, the newly inaugurated governor, then shouted to his staff to open the gates. He was panting, and his voice was breaking like he was about to cry. He was so worried and he felt the danger of dying at the first day of his service.

Open the gates! Why are the gates closed? Open the gates now! Call the rescue group to come here in the stadium now! Tell everyone to come and help us!

None of them was able to help. They, themselves, strived for their own lives. Governor Magsaysay, to whom the people entrusted their future wasn’t able to protect them. He heard their cry for help. He saw their attempt to survive. He can smell fear from the look of their eyes. He, who was there have done nothing to help them. Death was so unstoppable.

A few moments later, minutes after they taught it was ceasing was the time to hear another explosion. Another one exploded at the stage. Fear has truly won the hearts of its victims and death took every single life left there inside. People battled for their lives to live. They continued running until the gates were opened. The force of the people destroyed the gates and went out. Many of them were able to go out but many died. The bomb explosion created fear and left a mark that will stain in their memories forever. Some of them did not make it, their bodies laid by the grounds lifeless. There were children, they died with their parents. Who could do this? How heartless that person could be? The explosion took not only lives but hopes of a beautiful future. It killed the future of San Simon.

The explosion has resulted to a mystery that led them to no clue.

Governor Gene then panicked and blamed everything to the chief of security for what happened.

How can you let this happen!!? Why did you let this to happen? Many lives wasted! They plea for help and we didn’t do anything!

Governor we did all kind of inspection upon entrance and all kinds of security were done just to ensure safety but

But what?! Look what happened? Is that what you call security? Their lives, their precious lives are gone! Is that how you do your work?

    No Sir we will do

Do what!? Will that bring back the lives of these people?

    No Sir,

Solve this mess or I will make sure you will not serve the Government anymore!

One day, we realize how much time we have to spend to be ready. Most of the time we lack the patience to do the right things and when the time comes it will lead us to emptiness. Courage is not enough to win success. The thought that we can do it could mean the responsibilities we need to pledge to ourselves.

The ground is filled with different marks from the steps of the people and the blood they shed for fighting to live. The stadium was left with a stain of a disastrous incident that will make an unforgettable incident in its existence. Existence has become a resounding shame.

Reporter: The inauguration day has become a disaster. Many people injured, died and traumatized. The first day of his duty becomes a nightmare. This is a big job for the governor to do and a big mystery to unfold. Who could be the bomber and why did he do it on this day. Governor, we are waiting for justice to be served.

It was the longest day of the Governor. He did not sleep, not a single rest. He is so worried about the people. The governor stayed, sitting on the ground. He doesn’t know what to do with this chaos. The lives taken, the joy forsaken and the future hanging, hope is nothing but sorrow and pain. How a joyful intent can result to a disastrous incident? What have lost was not certain. What is to be discovered has been left a mystery. What can be done is an undesirable commitment. Now that the job of the Governor has officially inaugurated, how will he start the greatest reward he has earned for winning the seat of governance? CHAPTER 2

What will you do if you found yourself alive? Will you recognize yourself and live the same life?

I thought I fell to the depth of an unwinding death but a beat disturbed me in my sleep. I opened my eyes and I stared into the light. I felt the strength in my veins that gave life to move my own hands. I took the chance to see a fresh touch of my present life. The moment felt new but my body was so exhausted; it seemed that I have been fighting for my life in the past. But I can’t remember anything; anything has been very deep that it already joined the darkness that buried them alive. Every single strand of me was tired. My senses recognized the pain in my blood that runs in my body. I couldn’t feel the soul inside myself. My mouth opened like it is moving on its
