PREFACE
Dear readers,
For men and women of all ages, there’s more to life than changing diapers, feedings, and going to church on Sundays. There are heartaches, temptations, lust, love, and battles between God and Satan, each pulling at our heartstrings.
I feel qualified and compelled to tell the tale because it’s my life story. I finished school with a GED and later was licensed to sell insurance and had some college, studying to be an LPN.
This book is for all women and men who have struggled in life to maintain a close relationship with our God. This story tells some of the temptations and trials in a young woman’s life and how she tries to deal with them even with the odds seemingly being totally against her. This book shows how God went to her personally and created a faith that sustained her throughout life with Satan at her every turn.
I believe this book will appeal to young and old alike. I believe it will help to strengthen a new believer’s faith and possibly help struggling young mothers know that life can be easier.
CHAPTER 1
M Y STORY BEGINS WHEN I was a little girl, about two or three years old. It was Christmas, and I remember seeing this very handsome man in a navy uniform. This was the first time I remember seeing my father. He was so magnificent and very gentle and kind. He was serving in World War II on a destroyer called the USS Richard P. Leary .
Memories overwhelm me as I think back to my childhood, and the precious time I had with my dad brings a smile to my face. My father soon came home from the navy for good. He had been a gunner on the destroyer in the South Pacific. Life was perfect for the next ten years. My family was a storybook family. Mom and Dad were a match made in heaven, and my three brothers and I just added to that perfect family. Our home was large with plenty of bedrooms, all large and spacious. The outside looked like a flower garden. Rosebushes as well as strawberry patches and rows and rows of vegetables laced the grounds. I remember going to the garden with my saltshaker and picking a large red tomato and wiping its dust off my dress and putting it to my lips and eating the warm, juicy fruit that God had created along with a little help from my loving mom and dad. Life was really good. Life was blissfully wonderful, and I couldn’t have asked for a better family. These were blessed times, and I wouldn’t know how blessed until a few years later.
I was not prepared for the upcoming events that would invade my life in the next decade. My father became very ill. He had a heart attack and, with all the tests, found out he had his first attack in the navy on the destroyer. He was only thirty-eight and had less than two years left to live. I never saw my father smile after the doctors told him of his condition. I didn’t understand the full extent of the pain and suffering he would go through or that I would go through either. My dear daddy spent most of the last year of his
