Proud to Be a Tidwell: Still Achieving and Failing
Author

Carolyn Hansen Tidwell

I, Carolyn Hansen Tidwell, spent my childhood on a farm in Central Utah. I married a military man, and we travelled a lot, returning to Utah for my golden years. I spent my early married years raising four children and working in federal civil service as a stenographer and case manager for military intelligence. After returning to Utah, I entered the computer arena, becoming a manager in a large law firm. When I reached retirement age, I officially retired but continued working as manager of a senior citizen center. At this writing, I still manage the senior citizen center. My life has been good.

Hopefully you have already read Achieving/Failing – and if you haven’t – perhaps I can encourage you to do so. Achieving/Failing deals with the author’s youth and her life up until her four children became adults and began life as four new family units. I will address each of my children and their school choices, career choices, mate choices, home choices, etc. and will then talk about their children – my grandchildren and great-grandchildren - later on.

    CHT – PRELUDE

I have no regrets concerning the way I have lived my life – having managed to raise four beautiful, successful children, having a fruitful and successful professional life, and maintaining a comfortable financial environment.

As we journey through life we make numerous choices predicated on benefit and possible loss. You choose between what is best for the family as opposed to your professional career; you choose between maintaining a marriage or going for divorce when things get rough – again considering the family. I do wonder what the outcome would have been if I had made other choices. You also choose between being strong and handling everything or being somewhat needy. If you are strong – of course – everyone else benefits – whereas if you are not you may gain the probably needed support. I feel I may have been a little too strong (capable), thereby exempting my family from my feelings – and leaving me a little empty. We were a military family going to Germany right after the war with patriotism strong at that time. While veterans are truly unsung heroes so are the spouses holding everything together.

This book; however, is intended as a historical record – including four generations of ancestry - and a recording of the path each of my children, their children and their children’s children have taken – with humor and sometimes stark reality.

It is interesting as you enter the golden years that while you are financially secure and maintain fairly good health, you also realize that it is time for a new generation to make their mark and it’s kind of sad to see your reign end. I also feel America has become a throw-away society - to include the elderly. Everyone seems to be running in circles to accomplish something while forgetting what should really matter in life – the wisdom of the elderly and the total family. There is totally too much emphasis on putting Mom or Dad in a home somewhere when the family should be caring for and benefiting from them.

    GENEALOGY

THE FOLLOWING PAGES WILL ENLIGHTEN YOU AS TO HOW YOU CAME TO BE. YOU ARE ALL DESCENDENTS (NOT YOUR PARTNER) OF CAROLYN MAURINE HANSEN TIDWELL AND WALLACE KEITH TIDWELL.

THE NEXT FEW PAGES START WITH THE GREAT GRANDPARENTS OF CAROLYN AND WALLACE AND THEIR JOURNEY FROM DENMARK, WALES AND ENGLAND TO THE USA AND TO EACH OF YOU.

THESE PAGES ARE A GENEALOGY AND ARE NOT REALLY PERSONAL BUT SHOW YOU YOUR HERITAGE.

STARTING WITH THE CHILDREN OF CAROLYN AND WALLACE YOU WILL BE TREATED TO INDIVIDUAL IN-DEPTH VISIBILITY INTO YOUR LIVES AND THOSE OF YOUR CHILDREN.

THIS BOOK IS A HISTORICAL RECORD AS WELL AS A HUMOROUS READ. ENJOY----------------
