    PROLOGUE

Since 2013, international space agencies have been working together in an attempt to track down suspicious beacons that had appeared to be set off within the galaxy. In an attempt to protect their civilisied population, many of the worlds leaders, from the United States, mainland Europe and Asia and including the United Kingdom, these leaders joined together all spare funding and set up a series of evacuation bunkers incase of a world wide invasion, of course this came after a world wide treaty was signed aswell as a full military commitment from each of the nations within the treaty. Thousands of regular troops had been mobalized to key locations throughout their homelands, including capital cities and the evacuation bunkers and refuge camps. Unknown to the leaders as to who and what could be approaching Earth, a programme was set up and a highly classified agreement was signed by each leader. This programme was to advance the technology within the armed forces and as such, increase the number of military personal and their abilities. This classified agreement was unknown to all other military personel, except from the research technicains and one general from each nation involved to overwatch the production of this new weaponry and armoured gear, some countries had used the time and resources to improve on some vehicles. New military bases were constructed aswell as airfields and naval bases. When an attack did not arrive, the agreement still stood for the alliance as the advancement had proved successful and even four years later, this technology was still held as classified as improvements were made each month as new strengths were added to the original faults. However, space agencies have now intercepted new transmissions and the governments held a conference to discuss the evacuation of civilians and agreed the excuse would be for development of major cities and the usual gas and water works as this would not put fear into the civilians and would make the evacuations much easier. With regular military personel mobalised, a special unit from each country would be given ‘special’ assignments stretching across the globe. During an extended world conference, the leaders came up with many titles for the new regiment. One title that they eventually decided would fit it’s purpose was ‘Paralegic’ which they used to describe soldiers who have had limbs amputated. Happy with their choice, they then began to give the orders for their nations to create a brand new regiment known as the Paralegic Special Forces. The year is now 2017 and the era of the Paralegic Heroes has come to life, under the Coalition of Governments (CoG)

    CHAPTER 1

Somewhere in the desert plains of Afghanistan on a cold late September night, a small squad of U.S Special Forces units prepare for a stealthy assault on an insurgent base camp that had been the centre of enemy artillery operations against allied forces in the area. Under the command of a newly promoted and rather young female lieutenant, a small company of U.S Rangers layed waiting in their set off points outside the enemy compound.

Alpha One to Bravo Six are you in position?

Rodger that Alpha, snipers are in place ready to ruin the sentries night.

One by one the snipers of Bravo Six crawled through the dusty sands already covered by the previous sandstorm, once set in place they could feel the true desert heat as they sat it out waiting for the orders to strike. Sergeant Grimlo, was a short, bold, dark skinned and muscular built American soldier from Detroit who had been forced into army by the courts and given the choice of prison or national service, he chose the national service and was now in charge of keeping a watchful eye over the Bravo squad. From being under a court order and now being under the orders of a female lieutenant, Sergeant Grimlo waits to give the orders whilst the four sniper teams got into their position.

Grimlo to all sniper teams, mission is a go… Execute objective ‘goodnight’

One by one a shot was fired from eight separate sniper rifles with each shot finding it’s target and sending the unaware enemy sentries spinning and twisting down to the ground in silence.

Now that the sentries have been disabled the main assault squads can move silently through the dark desert sands and make their approach to the compound. During this, Privates Kerksky and Ruiz spot an unexpected visit to the compound.

Lieutenant Lola called Private Ruiz over the radio. Ruiz had been under Lola’s command for a couple of weeks, but within that time, the twenty seven year old tall, stocky man with heavily tanned skin with shiny black hair, from Boston came to respect the new lieutenant, with her quick thinking skills during combat situations aswell as the way she bonded with the men. Continuing on the radio he added, looks like we have company, four enemy mobiles are approaching the compound at the Southern entrance, what’s the plan sir?

Private Ruiz, I see them. we need to take them down before their alerted to the fact that their sentries are immobilised. Set up a small ambush and pop their tyres using silenced weapons only replied Lieutenant Lola cautiously as her squad reached the western centre of the compound.

Meanwhile Sergeant Grimlo allowed Privates Ruiz, Kerksy, Bosley and Corporal Carter to execute the enemy convoy which was made up of one small limousine with escorts of three jeeps and a stolen troop truck. Using a small slope in the road which the vehicles could use to their advantage, Corporal Carter set up his ambush. Private Bosley was at his left flank whilst Private Ruiz and Kerksy set up on the right flank of the road. Scanning the area using his night vision binoculars, Carter soon realises that four men may not be a good idea against an army of around thirty to fourty men which was being judged on the size and quantity of the vehicles. Whilst deciding whether to call for back up or a change of plan from the sergeant, the small ambush squad were relieved to hear that the sergeant had sent another ten men including two heavy machine gun teams and a couple of snipers and riflemen.

Directing his new arrivals, Corporal Carter decided to split each machine gun team to either side of the ambush and to put the snipers together in a small enclosed area nearby with a good view of the road and surrounding fields to stop any runners from getting far.

Observing the enemy’s approach, Private Cameron of the sniper team awaited his orders to take down the lead vehicle driver whilst Private Lent was advised to take down the gunner. The enemy convoy was speedingly approaching the hilltop, where the waiting ambush was set.

Steady now boys just a few more metres Carter said calmly down the radio to help ease the men and to also help prevent the anxious trigger happy effect which can happen to most soldiers whilst waiting for the perfect time to strike. Picking his moment, Carter gave the individual men their orders. Sniper teams, execute the drivers in the front and rear vehicles, riflemen, take out the tyres in the middle vehicles, team one of the machine guns take down the gunners from the first two vehicles and team two of the machine guns, make a hit for the troop truck.

As the first vehicle hit the top of the slope, the passenger soon senses dangers as the drivers head hits the steering wheel with a gush of blood appearing from his left eye as a second bullet smashes the windscreen and hits him just below the neck which forced a gush of blood from his throat which resulted in him choking to his death.

Good shots there guys came the voice of Corporal Carter over the headset Okay guys let’s get the rest of them while their still unaware of the real danger ahead.

Using the sudden confusion in the enemy ranks, the two machine gun teams began to work on the enemy infantry. Letting the bullets let rip from his M249 Saw machine gun, Private Jerome watched happily as he gunned down several enemy men that were emerging from the troop truck

Oh yeah you sons o’ bitches, this is how it’s done as he cheered himself on.

Spotting a couple of enemy troops making a run back down the hill they had just emerged from the two sniper teams relocated to get a better angle on the the runaways.

One of the sniper men had turned his attention to one particular short guy who was wearing a rucksack with two RPG shells on his back, and as he fired a shot, the RPG shells exploded along with the guy. Meanwhile, back at the insurgents compound, Lieutenant Lola and Sergeant Grimlo had received word that their assault teams had successfully breached the compound and were currently clearing the aftermath of the assault as many men on the enemy side had been gunned down by the skilled accuracy of the riflemen.

Sergeant Grimlo, take your men around the back of the buildings on the left and flank these sons of bitches roared Lola as the enemy resistance began to strengthen.

Yes sir, can you give us cover fire as those dicks on the roofs have got a couple of my guys pinned with their sniper.

We see them Sergeant. Okay you two, I want your forty mill’s firing up there and send those bastards flying. Ordering two riflemen to fire the grenade launchers from their assault rifles proved effective as the explosion had caused for the buildings to collapse into piles of brick and dust.

Whilst the enemy snipers were buried deep under the rubble and the snipers taken care of, Sergeant Grimlo took his men around the back of a set of buildings to flank down a pair of enemy gunners who were currently holing themselves up in a small building at the far end of a stretch of road within the compound. Looking amongst his remaining men whilst analysing the route he spots a small ladder at the side of a building and quickly decides to send up a small squad to help overlook the rest of the way for his men and to provide some covering fire from the opposite roof tops as the enemy gunners were starting to swarm the edges and were trying their hardest to gun down the small unit of American soldiers.

You six, take that ladder and secure the roof and cover our route towards that enemy building. He said, whilst his heart was pounding and his lungs were struggling to catch some air and his ears vibrated at the distant sounds of gunfire being echanged from the other squads and the enemy insurgents within the compound. Watching them as they began make the climb with each man covering the other whilst the rest of the squad proceeded down the small alley way when suddenly a large explosion erupted from the roof tops and over their heads.

As he turned his head a large piece of brick fell in front of him, Private Sancreed spotted Private Phillips falling from the above roof top which was roughly fifteen feet. In a desperate attempt to soften his comrades fall, he promptly dropped his weapon and set out in a sprint. He manages to catch Private Phillips but the impact of the hard landing broke both his arms and also dislocated Phillips’ legs. Watching this happen, Sergeant Grimlo sets his men to create a small defensive perimetre whilst the medic squads rush to aide the fallen men. Both were screaming in agony but soon relaxed as a sachet of morphine was injected into both their bodies. Whilst this was happening a couple of stretcher bearers sent from Lieutenant Lola’s reserve squad. As they were helping the two men onto the stretchers, Privates Gonzalez, Patterson and Turner, are tasked with providing escorts for men that were awaiting medical extraction.

Carrying on with the assault, the current attempt to reach the men on the roofs is becoming impossible as a blazing fire lights up the dark skies sending smoke and ashes onto the ground around the infantry. They set off down the alley way taking a small turn to the left when the lead man takes a bullet from a sniper.

Henderson, take that son of a bitch down, Larrson and Grenate, grab an arm and pull Jamieson out of the hot zone barked Grimlo, as he reaches round the corner and flanks Henderson. He spots the gunner and launches one of it’s grenades into the building which sends the man flat on his back as the impact throws him up into the air and straight back down again.

Tango down, good shot Sir. Said Private Henderson happily as he witnesses the body of the enemy sniper fly into the air.

Let’s hope that’s the last of those sneaky little bastards. Okay lads let’s go, quickly and quietly Grimlo commanded looking cautiously amongst the roof tops. He decides to send a handful of men at a time to give room for manoeuvres in preparation of anything else happening. Okay Henderson, Miles and Frankford, you guys go to the corner where the alley way turns and cover our approach. Turning to look at the two privates Carr and Riches, I want you guys to stay here with Jamieson and help get him cleaned up and secure this corner and I’ll radio for those stretcher boys to come get you out.

Covering the three men he sent up ahead, Grimlo and what remained of his squad moved up to the rear of the building where the enemy gunners were camping out-inside.

Henderson and Miles, plant breach charges and then pull back here. Ordered Grimlo.

Watching his men carry out the commands given, he couldn’t help but wish this night would end. Since his promotion to sergeant only two months ago, he had been in every hell hole town this country had to offer. Already in this mission he had lost nine men out his twenty five man squad and this didn’t include five more that were assissting with escorting the two men on stretchers as well as Privates Carr and Riches who had stayed with Jamieson.

Okay lads this is it. When this wall blows, I want grenades thrown right in there followed by flash bangs. When we go in I want a three man team to either side and I’ll bring up the middle ok. We can do this. Let’s go and blow these charges. He said calmly with a hint of guilt as this piled on the responsibility given to the seven men that were remaining. Sending smoke and dust into the air, the charges blew a large hole into the side of the wall which was quickly followed by half a dozen grenades. After the grenades exploded there were moans of pain and screams from the dead and dying men inside. When Grimlo and his men stormed the building in the formation he ordered them to, they found that the enemies had all been killed in the series of explosions. Bits of body parts were dropping from the walls, as the concerete flooring was a messy mixture of dust, rubble, mangled bodies and stained blood patches. Looking around, Grimlo waved his men to stand down as they began to spread out along the remains of the inner walls.

Well that worked out better than expected said Henderson as he lowered his weapon whilst Privates Miles and Frankford went about putting a bullet into each of the enemy bodies just to be sure they were all dead.

Good job boys, next rounds on me when we get back at base. Larrson and Grenate, you two head back to Carr and Riches and check up on them said Grimlo as he watched his two men link up with the others. He then decided to secure the area and report back to the Lieutenant.

Lieutenant sir, enemy gunners are down and the building is secure, we err… We took a lot of heavy casualties and I need to request a re-group asked Grimlo over the radio, as he took a breather without noticing the plea in his voice. He just wanted to get his boys out of there.

Well done Sergeant, your boys did great today. We have secured the outer perimetre so just head on back to us when you can. Also, Corporal Carter has returned with his men so I’m sending him and his men over to support you. We also heard that explosion, how many did we lose? Replied Lieutenant Lola in a calming voice to help ease the pressure off of her new sergeant’s shoulders.

Coming back to his senses, Grimlo replied we haven’t recovered all the bodies but I do believe I have six possible killed in action - (K.I.A), and two walking wounded. One confirmed K.I.A is Private Jamieson and unfourtunatly he died while we were tending to his wound after a sniper shot to his neck.

After ten minutes, Corporal Carter and his men linked up with Sergeant Grimlo and his remaining men as they went to dig out their fallen comrades in the rubble that was left on the rooftop all where all five were killed from the explosion. Soon after, a small relief column arrive with medics and stretchers to carry the bodies of the fallen men. After the re-group and a brief debriefing with the three officers, Lieutanent Lola’s heavy radio operator informed her of an emergency incoming call from Pentagon. Even though each soldier had their own radio headset, a much larger one was hauled by one of the soldiers from one of the humvees.

Lieutenant Lola, this is General Grimes here calling direct from the Pentagon. I wish to congratulate you and your men on your take over of that insurgents compound but I regret to inform you that your convoy has been ordered to stand a ground against an unidentified attack force heading your way. We do not know the size and strength of this force but take no risks, dig in and wait for air support. Do you understand? Barked General Grimes with a sense of deep regret coming from his last orders. After having known Lieutenant Lola since she started basic training, the General had become fond of her ability to quickly think over tactics and help keep her men alive. One of the main guilts that officers always carried with them, was the loss of men under their command. The same men that looked up to them to see them through the heat of battle, but with battle, a price must be paid, the loses that they had already had during this assault weighed heavy on Lola’s shoulders and the handful of squadies around her could see that under her helmet, she held a glumy expression.

Yes sir I understand, we’ll move the humvees into the compound and secure a defensive position replied Lola with a thought of confusion as the only strong forces within this area that could stage such an attack were the allied forces themselves.

    CHAPTER 2

It had been two hours since a NASA satellite operator, had started his shift when he spotted something unusual in his radar. General Jacobs sir, you may want to look at this. He asked whilst his commanding officer approached his desk and looked upon the screens.

What am I supposed to be looking at here? Looks like a giant pizza on your screen… Ohh wait a second. When did you notice this? Asked Jacobs with a curious look on his face.

Just now sir, that’s why I called you here because also, I seem to have lost contact with the actual satellite and I’m unable to read any signals sir, it’s like it’s disappeared. Replied Harris

Good spot lad, hmm it may be being jammed as the phones are still working he paused to give himself a few moments to think about the upcoming situation. This is very odd indeed. Okay, get me a direct and secure line straight to the Pentagon because that’s either a giant space pizza or were about to play host to E.T… Ohh could you get some barbecue sauce. You know, just in case adding the humour seemed like a good idea as it helped calmed the lad down and also allowed himself time to think about what was going on and why the satellite had silently disappeared.

About twenty minutes later General Jacobs found himself in a video conference with Generals Grimes and Lee who was alongside Admiral’s Kruz and Martinez. The President of the United States of America had the Defence Secretary alongside him who were waiting patiently for the conference to begin whilst General Jacobs found himself in a difficult situation.

Okay gentlemen, thank you all for your time I know we have some tough days ahead of us so here’s what we’re facing he said anxiously as he regained his confidence whilst he continued his speech. Earlier today one of our NASA satellite operators found an unknown contact on one of our other satellites before we lost all contact with it. All we know for now is that this is a possible hostile attack from an unknown race. Finishing his introduction the president interupts by asking so General, are you trying to tell us that the day we all saw was coming, but never expected it to is actually here? Well then gentlemen, this is how we play host … General Grimes, I want the Pentagon sending out emergency conferences with all of our allied nations and tell them to get their VIP’s to their safe houses or bunkers. General Lee, I want all of our forces ready to be mobilized for immediate combat as well as a mass civilian evacuation to the evacuation bunkers. Also, I want all our over seas forces on home soil ASAP because people will start to panic. Admiral Martinez, your task is to form a complete naval defensive perimetre around our country and Admiral Kruz, your task is to assist General Lee in getting our troops back home. We have a limited time gentlemen, let’s not waste it and god help us all.

With the conference finished and a battle plan in motion, General Grimes tries to regain contact with the forward operating base (FOB) in Afghanistan. When he receives news of multiple missile strikes in that known region and after several failed attempts, an emergency distress call is received from that region.

This is an emergency Pentagon call, this is Lieutenant Lola requesting immediate air support. Multiple explosions are being seen for miles here and we’re under an attack from an unknown enemy. We are stuck in this compound and getting slaughtered down here. Is there anyone receiving? After accepting the call within the Pentagon operations room General Grimes sets up a plan to provide air support from the naval group just off the coast.

Lieutenant Lola, Grimes here. We’re sending out air support right now so just hang in there Grimes relayed this information with a deep concern about the current situation as this is all he could do for now.

Will do sir, but out of the sixty men that I had under my command, I have little over twenty left. What’s the ETA on the air support?

ETA around thirty minutes, sit tight they’re on their way Lieutenant replied the General. With the mad rush around the Pentagon there was only one more thing that could make things worse, thought Grimes as he walked silently down the hallway towards the communications room. Walking into a room of panic and chaos, he decided to set things right for the staff who were under his command.

Okay listen up… He began with a deep voice to grab everyones attention towards himself, this is a planatary invasion. Yes, unfourtunatly, many people are going to die, but many others are also relying on us to do our jobs and to help our forces prepare for this invasion. We have to keep our heads cool because as of this moment, we have thousands of troops to bring back home. We can do this, it’s why we’re here. So let’s get cracking. Feeling more motivated with himself, Grimes headed for his desk until the operator approached him with a look of fear struck upon his face.

General Sir.. I err.. Received this just a moment ago… Its bad sir he said as he started to lowered his head and a look of disspare shadowed his face. He hands over a piece of paper to the general who reads it to himself and falls against the wall in shock. Deciding his staff deserved to know what had happened he turns to address them again.

Gentleman listen up. He began, we have just received multiple international reports and none of its good. Our remaining satallites indicate that multiple missile explosions have just been detonated in several countries including ourselves, Germany, China and Russia. Several states have also been bombed and there are millions dead across the globe. Also one of our combat units was recently in a region in Afghan where another explosion has just occured and I want search and rescue teams with military escorts to go to the areas in distress including this compound in Afghanistan and bring any survivors home.

As he finished his last sentence, the large flat screen tv that was in the room was tuned for local news was turned up in volume as one of the NASA staff spotted a breaking news broadcast. On the screen was a picture in the top right corner, with the news report coming from a news station, the smaller picture showed the White House in the background and the current scene was pure chaos. Numerous military helicopters were hovering over the home to the U.S President and a bar at the bottom of the screen was black bold writing stating that world leaders had issued an order within their countries for civilian population to head towards the nearest military safe-zone. A young blonde female reporter was in middle of saying about the presidents evacutaion to a safe bunker within the U.S, when an explosion appeared in the background. The camera man lost his control as the picture appeared to be shaking as a result of the aftershock. As the NASA staff watched on, others were simply stood or sat with opened mouths and looking around the room at each other with a look of confusion on their faces. As they watched, another explosion erupted from the dome on the White House’s roof and as flames began to spread across the right wing of the famous building the TV channel was cut of leaving a flashing screen left on the TV. Sensing the tension in the room, the general cleared his throat before addressing his staff for the third time in ten minutes.

I know we’re in for a tough ride, but we can do this. The staff at the Pentagon have assured me that a group of evacuation choppers are inbound for us to so we can head to a bunker in Nevada. We are needed there to help co-ordinate strikes against this unknown enemy and also to help bring our people home safely.

    CHAPTER 3

Recon Team One to base, we have located the compound and it’s a mess down there. Skies are all clear so bring in the choppers. Lieutenant Carrman had been a pilot for several years in the United States Air Force - (USAF) and had been involved in tours in Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan. Despite all he had witnessed he had never seen a place as damaged and destroyed as he looked out on the ground below. Buildings were reduced to bits of rubble everywhere and there was a trail of devastation left from the explosions.

Five minutes later two Black Hawk helicopters arrived with a ground search and rescue team. They were tasked with searching for signs of any enemy contact and to seek any survivors. They were advised that they would soon come across the wreckage of the destroyed vehicles that Corporal Carter and his men had ambushed. When they approached the compound, Captain Spencer of the US Rangers who was in charge of the mission sent his men to different locations to set up a small perimetre and a fall back defensive point.

Corporal Dans, take a quarter of the men and scout round the Western side of the base. Sergeant Francis, take another quarter and search the Eastern side. I don’t want to cause a friendly fire situation and remember only fire when fired upon and the watch words are -trojan for the challenge and spartan for acceptance.

Under the watchful eye of Sergeant Kurtis, another quarter of the men were left at a ditched area with machine gunners flanking all sides to cover anybody trying to escape. Captain Spencer handed out orders for the remaining men to be taken to the Southern entrance where recently, the gates had been blown open and the bodies of the dead insurgents littered the ground from the previous assault. Making sure his teams were set in place before entering the compound Captain Spencer radioed through.

All teams SIT-REP go! He ordered.

Responding first Dans here all set followed by Francis here good to go which left one more team left Kurtis here we’re set to cover and no sign of any contact, friend or foe deciding it’s all clear to enter the compound Spencer gives the all clear. Leading his team he requests a squad of fire teams to enter at the same time.

Ok, Rameri, you and Lee take Redmond and Franko and scot around the left flank and link up with the scouts from Corporal Dans unit. Sanchez, you and Irving take Campbell and Porter and scout around the right flank to link up with Sergeant Francis and his scouts barked Captain Spencer as he sent another team up into the entrance and into the first couple of ruined buildings. When suddenly, something caught his eye.

Travis watch out to your left, looks like a body advised Spencer as he approached the object with caution. Privates Travis and Martins were surrounding and protecting his flanks. Approaching the unknown object he soon discovers the body is in fact wearing the US uniform.

All squads be advised we have come across one body and it’s one of ours, I need a SIT-REP on all squads he said calmly down the radio to avoid the intention of scaring his other men. He then hears a reply from Corporal Dans’ first.

Captain, it’s Dans here sir, we may need back up. We have stumbled across a set of ruins at a northwest building in the corner where there’s alot of bodies. They are critically wounded and it’s a mess here.

Sending his men to link up with Corporal Dans to help assist with the missing soldiers along Lieutenant Lola’s command, Captain Spencer decides to link up with Sergeant Francis and his men set up a small area in the middle of the compound and create a makeshift medic camp.

Back on the radio Sergeant Kurtis commanded I need your men up here now to bring the medic packs and to set up a defensive perimetre around our makeshift field hospital As he reflected on his orders, Captain Spencer starts to lose focus as he stumbles across more bodies of enemy insurgants that were blown up by the 40mm grenade launcher rounds that had sent bodies and limbs flying in sorts of directions. He then comes across yet another allied body and at the same time he was joined by Lieutenant Lola who is being carried by two of his riflemen as she is unable to walk and also appeared to need immediate surgery on a couple of limbs, one of her arms was mangled while one of her legs had been twisted, forcing her to limp awkwardly with the aid of two soldiers on either side of her.

Asking the men to set her down gently she says well now Captain ain’t you a sight for sore eyes. Seriously, we thought we were gonners when they came she said as tears started to fill her young, but dusty and dazed eyes. Continuing she adds when we took the base, Sergeant Grimlo had suffered many loses to his team and the enemy thought to play dirty. This body here is Private Jamieson who was gunned down by a sniper, who’s body is in pieces over in that building. Over there is Privates Carr and Riches who also died defending Jamieson. The remaining men of Sergeant Grimlo’s squad took out an enemy building with machine guns inside that had pinned down my squad. By the time we got to Carr and Riches, they were already dead along with Jamieson and the guy that killed them is over there under that building with several bullets shot into him.

Taking a deep breath to help ease the pain, a team of medics did their best to help each of the remaining soldiers under Lieutenant Lola’s Command. As more of her men are carried over by the riflemen of Corporal Dans’ squad, Lola couldn’t help but notice that one man in particular was alive but unconscious. Sergeant Grimlo had saved her life when the missiles hit the compound and a piece of rubble had landed on him as he pushed Lola out of the way. From the medics point of view he was all good but his legs were crushed and would need to be removed once back on friendly soils. In an attempt to cheer her up, he made light conversation. So tell me he began what brings a girl like you, to a place like this? He asked with a slight smile in an attempt to brighten her up as all around them men were helping each other whilst waiting for the Black Hawks to return for the flight back to the aircraft carriers that would help take them back to the States.

In a small cheeky smile she replies "well if you wanna know, I was just taking my boys for a walk when we came across this lovely little place and I thought to myself.. If you let your boys blow this
