Author

Iryna Scott

I was born in Ukraine where English is not spoken. That's why for half of my life I was passionately devoted to teaching English to children and adults. At first I worked in different state schools until I finally understood that I needed my own School of English - I called it “Holiway.” I worked hard to make my lessons exciting and full of fun for people who couldn't wait for their next English class. Children were my priority and passion because they will not put up with boring lessons! This is how stories and fairy tales of fantasy and imagination were born. My pupils and I travelled through journeys of adventure whilst, learning English. And now I want to invite you – children, parents, teachers, nannies to have fun learning and teaching English, one of the most beautiful languages in the world.

    THE FIRST NIGHT

Masha walked down the street and heard someone crying.

    - Hey, who’s there crying? - She asked. And then she heard in response:

    - Hey, hey, hey…

Masha came closer and saw in the bushes a little letter. That’s who was crying!

It looked like the letter A.

    - Why are you crying? - asked Masha and carefully took the little letter in her hands.

    - Hey, hey, hey… - sobbed the little letter.

Then Masha noticed that it had got a broken leg.

-Oh, little letter, dear, don’t worry, I’ll cure you.

Masha brought the letter home, took red ink and painted its leg correctly.

    - Hey, hey – smiled little letter.

    - Why are you talking so weird? - Masha asked. And she thought: What a strange letter. Then she went to have her dinner, after she went to play; later she had a shower and jumped into bed.

At night Masha was awakened by a ray of light coming in from the window. It was coming from one little star.

The light fell onto the table, and on the table… was sitting a little letter! He was small, oval and red. Instead of a mouth he had the letter A. He smiled and said to Masha:

    - Thank you, Masha! You have saved me. For this I can take you to my country - ABC land and teach you to read my language.

    - What is this? - Masha was surprised.

    - English. After all, my name is A and I am the oldest of the brothers.

    - Yeah, now I understand why you shouted: Hey, hey…

    - Yes, I can shout and even scream because am I a vowel.

    - What, what? - asked Masha.

    - Yes, a vowel! I can scream and even yell. Wow! I’ve got the strongest voice.

And then the little letter opened his mouth and shouted: He-e-e-y!

    - Hush, hush! - said Masha. – Everyone is sleeping. How can I get to your country? Is it far?

    - No, not really. You only need to keep this ray of the Star of Knowledge. The main thing is not to stop.

He walked over to Masha, took her hand, and she felt that she had become so light and airy. They lifted off and started flying.

The flight was not very long. And suddenly the light became brighter. Masha saw blue sky, and in a moment she and her little friend fell down on the soft green grass.

    - Where are we? - Masha was surprised.

    - Welcome to ABC land!

    - But there is no one around!

    - This is because all my brothers are in the Letterhouse now.

    - Where?

    - In the Letterhouse. Ii’s the name of the house where we live. I live there too; I am the letter A.

    - Are there a lot of you who live in this Letterhouse?

    - Twenty six.

    - Twenty six letters? And all are red, and all shout hey?

    - Of course not! We are all different. And red letters are only us, vowels. Our second name is vowel.

But suddenly a red swirl ran upon the letter A. It whirled for a while around and Masha could see nothing but some whirling red before her eyes. Finally the whirlwind
