    Author Biography

June Frugtniet is a Malaysian Chinese residing in Perth. She has two grown up children, Brenda and Eugene Lee from her previous marriage. She was working as a secretary for 20 years before she re-married and migrated to Western Australia in 2009. She left the corporate world after her last posting in a public listed company as an Executive Secretary/PA to be with the love of her life who managed to find her from across the ocean.

During her early tenure in Perth, she did a lot of reading and writing to occupy her free time apart from cooking, baking and gardening.

This is her 1st novel of which she had this storyline since the late 90s. However there was hardly any personal time for her back then being a single mother for many years. It was not until 2011 that her full story was finally completed with the encouragement from her Australian husband.

She has just finished her 2nd novel that she hoped to finalize and publish soon. At this juncture, there was already another fabulous storyline for her 3rd novel….another love story with a sad twist that is yet to follow.

    Foreword

The author’s 1st novel ever written & published after a mere daydreamed of such storyline since late 90s. It was previously penned down in only four pages during the millennium…

Herewith the author wishes to thank her husband, Darryl for the encouragement and support extended to her in 2010. Being a new migrant to Australia and was jobless then, he inspired her to complete the writing.

The ending of this story had touched her husband’s heart and he knows the readers will also feel the same…so enjoy reading this wonderful tale.

    Chapter One

    A DREAM COME TRUE

The cool autumn breeze dampened the lane of the New Jersey town where some final year students at Princeton University exited from the hallway bidding goodbyes and giving hugs.

It was their last day of semester in the late-90s for the Economics students mainly from the middle income families.

Lynnette Roberts or better known as Lynn was never a demanding child but always seeks opportunity to fulfill her dream to be a good dancer. Her best friend, Suzanne Newman also enjoyed dancing but also loves baking too. Her family owned a small bakery not far from their college and Lynn would walk with her every day for their classes.

Let’s go to the bakery Lynn, my mom baked blueberry cake and wanted us to come for tea. Su invited Lynn. Oh I love that, let’s go. Lynn said excitedly as she never missed any of Mrs Newman’s cakes.

Lynn knew Su would not have the chance to explore out of their hometown. Her mother had already planned Su’s commitment in the family bakery business after graduation. She was asked to look after the shop especially in admin and purchasing roles. Her mother had previously advised her to pursue in advance baking and cake decorating classes too.

They were both overjoyed with their results they had just collected before Christmas.

Lynn, we did it! Su shouted. Yes Su, we know our days will come and we’re going into the real world soon! Lynn said. That’s for you but not me…I’ll be in the bakery. You are much luckier than me, you get to pursue in dancing. Su said with her head down. "But I’ve to go after my dream, that’s what life is all about right? I gotta to be somewhere so I need to get out from here.

Look at the bright side Su, you already got a bakery to run…. come on, don’t be negative ok?"

Lynn tried to re-assure her best-friend.

I know Lynn, guess it’s also a big challenge for me to run the bakery. Yes you can do it, so go on to the advance classes and enjoy what you’re doing. Lynn supported Su’s idea.

Hey, what are you girls chatting about so excited? A man’s voice called out from behind.

Michael Stewart has been Lynn’s soul mate since high school and never failed to send her to university and back. He had just graduated 6 months earlier in Architecture study in the same university but was not lucky yet to find such job so far, not in their small town.

Hi Mike, it’s just girls’ stuff. Su said. Hey dear, Su’s going to take up advance baking class soon. Lynn continued saying, So thumbs up to her, maybe she’ll have chains of bakery in the future! Mike cheered on for Su, That’s great Su, good luck to you…we’ll come to support you in your venture next time! Su shy away and said Thanks for that…I’ll dream on in my new class then.

It was cloudy outside when they were about to leave the campus. They stopped to read a notice about the prom…it would be held next Saturday evening in the City Hall and the girls were excited about it. Oh you two lovebirds, dressed in your best for it! shouted Su as she cycled home. You too Su, remember it’s the purple cocktail dress and not the black dress yeah.. the girls had earlier discussed about their dresses in Su’s house. The black dress was given to her by an aunt years ago while the cocktail dress was only worn once last Christmas.

How about you, my lovely? Do you have anything nice to wear? Mike asked. Oh yes, don’t worry about me….I’m gonna collect my prize money from dad later for my good results & plan to buy a nice dress Su and I saw yesterday. It’s gonna be a surprise for you. Lynn said cheekily. Surprise? Tell me what’s the color so I’ll have a matching shirt. Mike asked. Well it’s light yellow, you can wear any yellow tone if you wanna match. Lynn said with a smile. Great, I got exactly that color, no prob. Mike was happy with her choice. Lynn requested Mike to drop her at a boutique tomorrow afternoon so she could buy the dress. It started to drizzle so they quickly hopped onto his bike to go home.

Reaching home they bumped into Lucas who just ran into the porch. Lucas had finished high school a month ago and was working part time in a café for extra cash. Geoff, Lynn’s father offered them coffee and cookies. No thanks, I’ve got to go home soon cos my mom is not well today. said Mike.

Oh my lord, I hope she’s not seriously sick is she? Geoff asked. Hope not, she’s got gastric and need more rest from the retail job. Mike said. Here, give her some of my medication…good for tummy, tell her not eat oily food and no milk for today. Geoff advised.

Thanks sir, appreciate it…mom didn’t want to see Doc Holmes anymore after the incident last month. he said with a sigh. Well tell her to ring me if that cheeky doc is after her again!

Geoff said angrily. I will, thanks sir. Mike said.

Mike, I go with you later to see your mom. Lynn offered but Mike said it was alright since his mother needed some rest. Maybe we all go visit her after Sunday service, how about that? Geoff said Ok good idea, send our regards to her. said Lynn. Thanks guys, I’ll let my mom know. Mike said. Lucas, are you coming too? Oh not sure, I might be working. Lucas had been working hard and saving his pocket money to support himself in case his father is not able to since he has just retired a year ago. Mike went home in the drizzle refused to use Lynn’s raincoat. Geoff was so glad when Lynn told him of her good results and he gave her a prize money for her achievement. Lucas gave his sister a hug with congrats.

That evening the family sat down for a good roast dinner to celebrate Lynn’s good results.

They talked in between meal about their future; Lynn wants to continue pursuing in dance and Lucas was hoping to enroll himself in an engineering course next year. Geoff was just a government servant before and had struggled many years to support his children’s studies and hobbies too. Life was not easy for the single father with two active children who aspired to achieve their dreams.

Dad, what do you think if I were to register in a prestigious dance academy for my dancing career? Lynn asked with raised eye brows. Sounds promising my child, if that’s what you want to be…a professional dancer in the Hall of Fame? Hehe.. Geoff was light-hearted towards his dear daughter. Yes, with your blessing I like to be a professional dancer…you know how much I love to dance. Really makes me happy when people are enjoying my performance.

    Lynn began to elaborate.

You’ll have my blessing child, if only I’m capable of paying your fees though. Geoff hesitated but had to be frank. Don’t worry dad, I’ll find work to help out. Lynn suggested. Dad, how about my course next year? Lucas quickly enquired. Oh ya both, slow down and wait till I get my finances sorted out…ya know, after retirement and having paid a lot of debts here and there, I need to check how much left to spare for you both. Maybe I’ll seek from the government too if we have no choice. They were quiet for a minute and Geoff continued OK, show me the fees and I’ll sort it out. Geoff said with a heavy heart.

After dinner, they sat in front of the fireplace to watch TV when suddenly Lynn came across a dance advertisement in a magazine. She read on excitedly and her breath came close to a halt at the end of the page, she got up and quickly walked into her room to ring Su.

They both talked about the dance competition that was in the magazine and Lynn decided to participate. Su, you sure you don’t wanna give it a shot? It says winner gets a scholarship to their academy in New York and this is our chance to be out there. Lynn persuaded. I can’t, you go ahead…I’ll be there for you. I can’t even talk about dance for now…my mom seriously sending me to the baking class next month. She wants me to obtain the cert for future business expansion. Su said sadly. Ok Su, I know…sorry about it. I’m just going to fill up this form and send it tomorrow. We’ll chat again okay, nite! Lynn said excitedly.

The morning dew dampened the windows at Lynn’s room and birds chirping around the maple tree at their lawn. Lynn was already up early to go out to the post office not far from her house. She then briefly spoke to her father at breakfast about the competition and was given his blessing to win the title.

Lynn and Lucas walked together to the town just 15 minutes from home; she was going to the post office to drop her mail while Lucas was off to his work at a café nearby. After that she rang Mike to meet her at the boutique to pick her up. She then walked two blocks down the road to the boutique to buy the dress that she was eyeing few days ago. It didn’t take her long to have a fitting and decided to pay for it. Then she found a matching earring for the dress as she was paying at the cashier counter. She looked outside but Mike was not there yet, so she chatted with the sales girl to recommend a hair salon to do her hair for the prom.

The girl gave her a contact number of her usual hairstylist near her college. Then the girl tried to sell her a nice pearl bracelet with a big white rose on it. She checked her purse but was slightly short of cash so she asked for discount. The girl pitied her and gave her 10% discount,

Lynn calculated in her mind and asked for another 5% so that she could afford. But the girl was reluctant saying that she was only allowed to reduce 10% or she would lose her commission.

As they were negotiating, she heard a horn outside the shop, it was Mike waving at her.

She rushed out to ask Mike for the extra $5/—to buy the bracelet and then ran back in to pay for it. She thanked the girl and walked out with a happy look on her face. They went for smoothies at the park and sat by the green grass enjoying under the warm sun and chatting about the dance competition. Lynn was trying to persuade Mike to go with her to the city and rent a room to live. Mike liked the idea as he would always try to support her wishes but told her to wait till he discussed with his mother.

The next two days, Mike was so reluctant to discuss with his mother about moving to the city. He was the only son and had been looking after his
